    The worse part about some of these hawkers are, they increase prices yet concurrently cut the serving portion of the food.

      Yes and also the quality of the ingredients. I know costs have gone up but if you have to compromise on the quality and quantity of your food even with the increase in price to survive, then you should not be in this business anymore

    Yup, Singaporean hawkers are truly one of a kind. They provide quality, wholesome food at affordable prices like no where else in the world. Sure there are a lot of affordable hawkers that are popular all over SE Asia, but you won't expect much in terms of quality or hygiene. There are also a lot of good food you can get elsewhere, but their value for money is just not the same. To me, Singaporean hawker centres are the best place to grab a bite (second only to my grandmother's cooking)

    Most stalls at new hawker centres such as Canberra, Punggol One, Northshore etc are generally S$4.50 & above. Very very few stalls offer prices S$3.50 & below.

    I was just in Singapore last month and we were thrilled with the hawker prices at Albert and Market Street hawker centers. A Quarter pounder meal at McDonalds can run you from $8-12 usd depending on size.

      15 Well, now I would like to talk about the subject: Getting used to God!... We get accustomed to everything that does not progress! Even the world changes, the years pass and the school books of the same class change because the world changes! One can get used to his house, one can get used to a church but one does not get accustomed to God! If you live in a house, you will eventually get used to it because the house does not move, does not go anywhere and does not evolve. And if one day you are blind, you will find up your way because you have become accustomed to your home! You will know where such and such doors are placed because the doors do not move and so it is for man and religion.
      16 God has given man the faculty of seeking to accustom himself! So that even a great man like Samson had become used to something and played with Delilah and he said after his locks were cut: "This time also I will get out of it like the other times!" Hundreds of times since his young age, God had acted the same way with him, so that he got used to it! You see? Getting used to God! Of all times, there has never been a man who has not sought to become accustomed to God. But it cannot be so with true Christianity because the Lord Jesus Christ is moving. The Bible says that He is the One who walks in the midst of the seven golden lamps! [Ed: The congregation says, "Amen"]. He does not walk on a candlestick-shaped bridge, it's not that He slips between the lamps of a giant candlestick but the Bible says that He walks in the midst of the seven golden lamps. He walks in the midst of angels, angel means messenger. He walks in the midst of the seven golden lamps, through the seven golden lamps. They are not seven objects or seven physical lamps but seven celestial angels influencing physical persons on the earth! You see?

    I feel Singaporeans give too.much emphasis on hawker food remaining at 1980s prices. Spare a thought for the poor hawkers who work hard to serve ppl who place such a low value on their efforts.

    I think most of us Singaporean already know that an average meal would cost at least around $5 or even more nowadays and that its understandable. But insisting on promoting hawker centers with things like "Meal at around $3" feels kinda like a scam to me. And they try to achieve that by seemingly forcefully having at least 1 budget dish at each store that cost around $3.50. But as we can see that majority of them list them at the corner or behind utensils and that they are either a downsized portion of the original dish or its lacking certain element(less meat or sides) to make it that cheap. Trying to find a meal at $3 are definitely possible but they are usually in privately own kopitiam/hawker centers instead of these new hawkers center buildings though the increased price is justified by the cleaner and more spacious environment.
    Nevertheless I am still thankful that there are budget options for people that are struggling financially especially since even cooking for yourself at home has become quite expensive unless you find good deals on ingredients or doing meal prep for long term by buying ingredients in bulk to reduce the price per meal.
    I believe that as long as the prices are justifiable(increasing price on common goods, inflation, better and cleaner environment, good service and so on), most of us would understand the increased price of dishes at hawker centers.

    As always, thank you so much for an entertaining and informative food video. They always give me a laugh. While food prices have increased worldwide, Singapore is still on the low end. Average cost per entree in North America is USD 15-20. Ouch. Cost for raw ingredients are also outrageous i.e., USD 3/lb for vegetables and $9 per dozen for eggs (due to "avian flu" and price gouging). It's nuts.

  • @cryptocurrencyforbeginners8440

    Affordable $3 - 3.50 food with the same decent serving nowadays still exist in the old type hawker centers around Singapore with many stalls still selling cheap price even of the current inflation situation. Mainly these hawker centers are in the old neighborhood estate areas with many older people living there. I believe those stalls are trying to keep the price as low as possible to be more affordable for the older peoples.

    • @Piggypuggy
      @Piggypuggy  Рік тому

      These only estates have only recently increased price by 50 cents to $3.50 just to try and cover basic ingredients cost. Price of fish easily increased 50% post covid as suppliers also mark up their cost. Newer hawkers especially those that franchised from well known stalls now starts at $5.90. God knows how much they pay per year for the franchise

    Unpopular opinion and I'll probably get downvoted to hell: restaurants/businesses/hawker stalls are not obligated to provide you with budget meal. They're trying to survive too with all the raised prices and taxes and fees. If you decided to eat out, please keep in mind that is is your resposibility to budget to eat out, don't demand it out of the businesses. It just doesn't make economic sense.
    I just don't think it's fair to demand budget prices from hawker stalls, they're trying their best too. That's all.

    • @leeboonkang2
      @leeboonkang2 Рік тому +1

      I agree that food stores are not obligated to provide budget meals. But I feel that majority of them provide budget meals not because of obligation but from trying to attract customers to consider spending, even the smallest amount at their store, compared to let say the next store that isn't providing a budget meal.
      Also, I think most sane people wouldn't demand budget prices from hawker stalls, but what they would demand is the value they get out of the money they spent. For example if 2 stores sells the same dish, made with same ingredients at the same price but different cooking skills. Store A's dish that taste worst as compared to store B's dish would get complains and maybe even demand to lower their price even though both store uses the same cost to produce the dish. Ultimately, as long as us, the consumers, have a realistic view on value, then it shouldn't pose too much of an issue. Though the issue right now is that many of us have the view and thinking that hawker center must be dirt cheap, which isn't a realistic thinking.

    On a philosophical level, it is said that "he who provides food for the stomach, provides food for the soul" hence invites good karma. On another level, he who is of good karma vibrates at a higher level of consciousness which results in clear vision of thought and processes. Happiness is the result.

    2 John Wesley, the man, was sincere. He was a deacon in 1725 but he was not converted. In 1737, returning to England after a mission to the United States, he said: "O God! I went to America to convert Indians. But who will convert me?" In that time, he was loved and approved of everyone. But when, on May 24, 1738, he received the true conversion to which I call the whole earth, he was no longer welcome on God's earth. Suddenly, the beloved son of the Anglican church became a subject of disappointment. John Wesley, speaking of one of those occasions when he escaped the fury of the people, said this: "Thinking that once I am knocked down, I will no longer be able to get up, several tried to throw me down while we were descending a hill on a slippery path in the direction of the city. But I did not flinch, nor slipped. Although several reached out to hold me by the collar or the clothes to overthrow me, they couldn’t do anything. There was only one who was able to hold out the flap of my waistcoat, which soon remained in his hands, the other flap in which there was a bank note was only half torn. A stout man who was following me closely hit me several times from behind with a big stick of oak. ... Another approached through the crowd, and having raised his arm to hit me, he suddenly pulled it down and only touched my head saying: "What a soft hair he has!" They were both Christians and non-Christians. Last month, I had received a stone and tonight, two. Two years ago a piece of brick brushed past my shoulder. Before that, I received a stone between the two eyes. You see? John Wesley suffered in his time like the prophets of the Bible. And as long as God will send a prophet on earth, it shall be thus.

And Brother Okobé had tried to show that rightly. You see? I am going to read Acts 10 first, I am going to show you two verses there. Then another verse in chapter 11.

You see?

    24 If God saves an assembly of gods or a Baptist, what about the Pharisees, Balaam, Judas Iscariote and Cain? Satan and his children say: "If you're a Baptist, assembly of gods, a revival church member or other and if you live well, that’s the most important thing..." They want to make us believe that in the flock of God, there are clean dogs, clean goats, clean pigs ... but they have to be sheep. They say: "If you are baptised in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit or in the Name of Jesus Christ, it is the same" Galatians 1:8 says: Cursed be him who says that. [Ed: The congregation says, “Amen!”]

    8 And because of money, no one gives himself time for God. The golden calf has defeated the tables of the law. The nations and religions have become disciples and apostles of money. The most powerful god on earth is money. It is for money that mankind studies, thinks, travels, works, marries, fights, obeys and suffers. For money people despise, fight and kill one another. For money, man sacrifices his dignity and honour. It is in the name of money that one decides.

    9 The earth does not believe the living prophets. If Israel, the valley of the prophets, does not believe living prophets, what can the nations do before me, Kacou Philippe? If I tell the Christians that Elijah and Moses in Revelation 11, it is one physical person who will come on earth in Israel with the spirit of Elijah and Moses, who will believe me as a prophet? But when I explain, they will believe it. And later, they will even say that they are the ones who had revealed before me that Elijah and Moses will be the same person.

    5 We do not believe in comparisons of verses but in the revelation! [Ed: The congregation says “Amen!”]. If you want to base yourself on errors to find the best Bible, you will see errors everywhere because of the face of man of the four living creatures. And if you are seeking a well translated bible, know that Satan has been speaking Hebrew and Greek for 6000 years…
