  • How to measure height with a grade rod. This video is NOT how to measure grade!
    NOTE:
    -Make sure to use height increments, not grade!
    -Most aluminum grade rods contain height measurements. Fiberglass grade rods may not have height markings on the back.
    Step 1:
    1.Raise the first section till it clicks
    2. Raise the 2nd section till it clicks or hits the thing being measured (the ceiling in this example)
    3. Find the nearest foot marker and count down to the black section. That reading is your height.

    I guess the error in rod reading can be blamed on parallax as the angle at which he was reading the rod was close to vertical.

      Yes, to ensure you get an accurate reading, you must use a bulls-eye/circular bubble on the rod to ensure the rod is perfectly vertical. Here's one that works with most aluminum grade rods - www.tigersupplies.com/Products/Bubble-Level-for-Aluminum-Builders-Grade-Rod__ADI710-40.aspx
