This was one of the most profound music experiences of the year I put it on and was transfixed from the first few minutes and it left me completely blown away
I'm rarely sold on death metal lately but Blood Incantation are such an exciting and creative band. Rivers of Nihil are another progressive Death metal band that I hold in high regard aswell as Urne
Couldn't agree more. For me it's the bands that are doing something entirely different that really excite me these days. There's so much to discover out there and I really think there's something in the melding of genres that we're seeing these days. Because music is so freely available I think it's that combination of different ideas and ideas that are taken from different genres but repurposed. You know? Totally agree though that RON, Urne and Blood Incantation are entirely in a league of their own.
That's a great shout too! I love Ontological Mysterium, great record - I mean everything they have done has been brilliant to be fair but yes, they're definitely one of those fascinating bands!
Absolutely my favourite album of the year. The riff you mentioned in your review in the final section of the album was definitely a copy of Crystal Mountain by Death, and then it embellishes it in the most spectacular way....very well played, just another pit stop of mind blowing moments on the album
Couldn't agree more. There really is so much to gleam from this fantastic record. I love every moment of it and I've listened to it a HELL of a lot since I got it back in August, it's just fantastic. Oh there is a hint of Crystal Mountain actually you're right. It's the ending for me that really puts this above everything else. What a truly incredible band! Also not sure if you might have seen but I have an interview with Isaac from the band as well, let me know if you wanted to take a look and I can send over the link for you :)
Not a death metal fan or really gave these guys time of day tbh but I checked it out and it's one of those albums that really takes you on a ride, i got sucked into the atmosphere and sound scapes and the album flew by I loved it.
That's so awesome! I love that, I also love that you're open to just giving the record a bit of a go and seeing where it takes you because for me, that's what all the records that we love should be about right?! At the end of the day music is an experience, I can't wait to see this live at some point because I'm sure it'll be even more incredible! If you're interesting I've got my interview with Isaac from the band as well, which delves even further into The Stargate and The Message too!
I've enjoyed all their previous records, but man did this one blow me away. I've spun it at least twice a day since release and am still finding new things to love about it. Definitely my album of the year so far and it's going to be a tall order to dethrone it. Great review as always!
Thanks so much for the kind words as ever and I couldn't agree more. The record is the perfect length that you can spin it twice a day easily but there's just so much to learn from it and truly blows me away every single time I hear it. Far and away my album of the year at the moment.
Have bought several albums on cd this year, and this will be my first vinyl purchase of the year... Seems like a sensible decision. Cannot wait to listen to this in full.
In all honesty, it's a record that was quite literally made for vinyl. Two sides, no messing and all out prog-death warfare on the mind. I love it so much - let me know what you think of it too mate!
Ahh that's so awesome to hear! Genuinely I think that it might end up being THE album of the year for me. It's just fantastic, totally out there and genre bending too. Truly incredible. Thanks for checking out the video!
Hey there Isaac, thank you so much! That is incredibly kind of you. To let you in on a little secret, this kind of longer form review is a little new to me. I have been trying to keep my content concise where I can so a lot of this is just spitballing and seeing where it all goes haha Also - not sure if you might be interested but I've got an interview with Isaac from the band which is really interesting and he lifts the lid on a lot to do with this record. Either way, hugely appreciate your kind words and let me know what you think of the record now that it's out there!
The Stargate blew me away. I had never believed there would be a modern death metal album that I would like more than Starspawn, so it's wild that it seems like they might actually top it.
Hell yeah! I mean, it's no surprise really for me personally. I really do think that this band are just honing their craft more and more and more with each release that they put out. That's why I think that Timewave was so important. Such a brilliant record that is quintessentially Blood Incantation too. Let me know what you think of the record when you get the chance to listen to it!
Ahh thanks so much for the kind words there Dunc, you're a legend. If you've got the time, I think you might like the interview that I had with Isaac, he's such a lovely dude and really goes in deep on the new record too. Let me know what you think of record as well mate!
Hell yeah! Let me know what you think of The Message, not long now. Only a matter of hours eh :) and thanks so much! It's all sorts of stuff really but they're all to do with music and the bands that I really love etc...
The early section of The Stargate tablet II gave me early Genesis vibes, that instrumentation in part sounds like a flute section that Peter Gabriel would have been all over. This album is stunning and will definitely feature in my end of year list
I’ve loved Blood Incantation since Interdimensional Extinction came out but this album feels like what they’ve always wanted to sound like. Not a prog guy at all but this is the perfect combo of DM + prog
Exactly! Couldn't agree more. This is where I think that we're first seeing the true potential of what they wanted to begin to achieve in their sound you know?
Hell yeah man! I mean, I can tell by your name that you might be a fan of the band already haha - thanks for checking out the review and what variant did you get?!
@@TheMetalTris you know me from my instagram record page of the same name haha. I just got the standard red, which is super cool. Love that one you got tho
I absolutely love the stargate. Can't wait to hear the message. I love the classic prog elements and the way this band takes these approaches to new sounds.
Hell yeah! That's what we love to see. So glad that this is out there in the big bad world now, it's so great and such a fantastic achievement for the guys. Not sure if you might have seen but I recently interviewed Isaac from the band, it's a really interesting chat and he lifts the lid on all sorts of things to do with the record. Thanks for checking out the video and let me know what you think of the entire thing!
In this day and age it’s becoming more difficult to maintain my attention because no one is really doing something interesting. Thankfully this album is scratching that itch for me. The way they shift from the nauseatingly angular death metal parts into the meditative old school proggy moments are extremely satisfying. This has got my vote for probably the best death metal album of the year easily…
Hop on board the cosmic bus haha! Honestly, I just can't get enough of this record. I accidentally got my copy shipped to the wrong / old address of mine so I woke up this morning to collect it from the post office. Can't wait to give it a spin on my record player. What a band.
I guess I got to this album too late, and got bit with the overhype bug lol…. But I just don’t get the hype.. The DM parts themselves are pretty pedestrian, and bands have experimented with space and other worldly synths before (Scar Symmetry).. This does score points for at least trying something different, considering all these bands these days just trying to copy and paste 80/90’s DM and Thrash, but I don’t get how this is landing perfect scores.
Same, and I've been an avid fan since 2015. This is a low point in their career despite having a big label backing them. I can't imagine anyone giving this 10's actually likes debut material which was and still is groundbreaking. I guess they have a new fanbase of more casual less discerning listeners. Hope it pays the bills for them out of the bottom of my heart tho, they've struggled enough and worked really hard. But it's gonna take a lot for me to get excited about a future release now.
The online discourse about this album is just absolutely hilarious. People who have never been vulnerable and put themselves out there creatively are just expounding their dumbest opinions masquerading as "critique." I for one LOVE this album and have listened to it multiple times already. Subscribed!
Hey there Michael, lovely to hear from you and thank you ever so much for subscribing too, that really doe mean the world and appreciate you enjoying this that much :) I totally know what you mean, I think that there are going to be a lot of people that don't truly understand this band, or the ones that get me are, I loved HHoTHR but fuck Timewave Zero - this album wouldn't have been possible WITHOUT Timewave. That's why it's so important to to highlight I think. I'm totally with you! Also not sure if you might have seen but I've also interviewed Isaac from the band as well. Had a great chat with him and Paul, Morris and I chatted on Timewave previously as well - thanks again for subbing!
I think for me, because of how different this is to everything that is out there, it's just got that edge for Album of The Year. The only record that is standing in it's way is Opeth which is a huge compliment to the band in any case really I think! Not sure if you might have seen as well but there's an interview that I had with Isaac, where we talk all about the record. It was great fun! Let me know what you think of the record too!
This is a clear example of a band who wanted to write two 20-minute songs because that's what their favourite bands did in the 70s, without a grain of those bands' songwriting ability, taste or sense of musical development. It's a well-produced, well-performed ADHD mess, coasting on 'vibe' and nostalgia value. This album is an embarassing waste of potential, being described as "songwriting genius" by every reviewer desperate not to be the one who doesn't 'get it'.
People who wax lyrical about how "amazing" this stuff is, just put their ignorance on full display. Yeah, when you don't actually know the bands and albums BI are directly ripping off in specific sections, as in literally lifting riffs/sections, then sure it sounds new and fresh, to others who are already familiar with all the stuff BI are "inspired" by it's just shameless regurgitating wrapped in self-important posturing. The funny thing is the death metal parts on this record are by far the weakest and least actually death-metally they have ever done. thinking BI are so incredibly progressive and have done something unique... bro...
I'm a huge BI fan but I gotta say I agree, this record and the previous EP had the least interesting metal parts of their entire career so far. The riffs on IE and Starspawn were original and memorable, this one just replaces riffs with Eloy, Floyd and Tangerine Dream bits that sounds like they took no effort in making it their own. I like Hallas but did we really need a cameo shoehorned in there? I really don't know what they were thinking or why anyone's giving this 10's, just go to the source material and the first two releases - better than any other death metal debuts in the last 20 years. Sad to see them run out of inspiration like this.
@@Bardodrift There are parts from Eloy, parts from Floyd, a part from Venenum, and someone even found a ripped-off Mastodon riff. I wouldn't care to list every single thing as I'd rather not listen to such tasteless cut and pasting anymore. For the record I thought HHotHR was decent, and my disappointment started with that turd "Timewave Zero" (and I love the bands they are "influenced" by and trying to emulate).
@@ambientjohnny you will have to forgive me for not just taking the word of some random person on the internet who likens what most would see as inspiration and homage to stealing. The band wears their influences on their sleeves. I would be curious as well to hear what your idea of an original piece of music is made up of. And if you yourself make music, if you have ever stopped to think about where your influences and sound comes from, and how much of that may be misconstrued as "shameless regurgitating". It's not war bro, it's music.
