I FRIGGIN LOVE THIS GUY, HE IS THE FUTURE OF AMERICANA FOLK MUSIC....give us more Dead covers Billy please....love ya man! I could listen to you all day long......
I lost my uncle about a month to covid. He’s was like a father to me. My dad was in prison growing up and my uncle took his place. My uncle was a huge deadhead and we used to stay up late and listen to them all night. This was my favorite song by them. I’m glad billy did this song
I perfer Billy's singing waaay more the bobby shouting into the mic. Don't get me wrong. I love the dead. Threw and threw. But this gives any dead version a run for its money.
Generally the Dead would never include a jam break in this tune. Bravo to Billy and his boys for giving themselves permission to take a little journey here.
Sad I broke the 13 here. Went to 3Gs..ate some hats. People in next camp were playing this song. I jumped out of tent..shadowed the west Texas cowboys..fingers in air for guns..I couldn't ever replay what Billy n Company play..damn..I wouldve seen more sober there with THEM. WOW
On the live dead album where they play the song, Garcia breaks away with a fine lead. Just not as extensive as here. Personally I'd like it on lead guitar. John Phillips from The Mamas and Papas wrote the song.
Yes...I agree 👍 with others....Jerry is smillin....content in knowing this kid will carry on his music & legacy....He is the headlight ....on that northbound train...🙏 👏
for some reason this is the verse I always forget when I'm playing it as well. Usually I just stumble back into it about halfway through, never thought to just solo it out before.
You guys are so tight and great pickers! I hope the two Billy’s stay together. They are on it. Great music. Hope To see you guys again in Michigan soon!!
Why am I always shook when Billy does his thing .I just can't believe how fucking talented this kid is .Cooler than Elvis better than cocaine . Magic .Montana hugs from the super fanatic. Goddamnit. Billy you are.a star.
I'm beyond happy to have discovered this artist and soul rebel. Absolutely stunning music and beautiful vibes all round. Much love to you and all the sail with you. Are you coming to the zUK any time please ?
Billy Strings is the best male performer since the Lizard King aka Jim Morrison of The Doors! Thats right! And y'all can see why...right? This man is an absolute powerhouse of Inspirarion to this insane World. I would love to play bass in this band! Make him jump n groove I would! So Lord continue to guide your Son Billy Strings. Cover him with your good Grace and grant him the Protection Needed. Amen!
I wish the audio was a little louder on this video. It is much quieter than the rest of his videos I’ve been watching. I want to hear it much better- it’s so good! 😎
That is such a great tune to chose. It sounds pretty good with a Nashville tuned guitar with a walk down to the that em minor from the g. It's hard to pick a key or register to play it in. I guess they is a testament to the strength of the song. Nice version. I love. I like everything I've heard you do.
Well that sure is great - great old song, but just an excuse here for a really good compact jam breakdown. Billy and company are great at taking the old tunes -- be they The Dead or trad bluegrass -- and giving them a new slant and a new shine. Not that their originals are shabby either, eh? Long may they run.
Good idea to break this one down Don't know why dead never did that maybe their was truth to the rumour Jerry was tired of the cowboy songs Anyway glad it got done.further!!
I love it, but it looks like I'm the only one to notice they missed the verse: My uncle starts winning, the cowboys got sore, One of them called him, and then two more, Accused him of cheatin', oh no it couldn't be, I know my uncle he's as honest as me, And I'm as honest as a Denver man can be.
What’s it take to get you to cone to OKLAHOMA? Been asking you to come here forever. It’s like you have something against us Okies. If we want to see you, we actually have to drive forever or get on a plane. Hell, Europeans have seen you before us. Starting to think you don’t like the state that produced Carrie Underwood, Garth Brooks, Reba, Vince Gill, Toby Keith, Blake Shelton, Ty England, Steve and Cassie Gaines, Joe Diffie, Bob Wills, Katrina Elam, Roy Clark, Merl Kilgore, Woody Guthrie, Gene Autry, Roger Miller, BJ Thomas. So, Billy, I gotta change tactics to get you out here. You don’t think you can hang with our talent level, or what? There! I’ve thrown down the gauntlet. Ball is in your court bro!
Absolutely not. Was he taught to drive by Neal Cassady? Is he imbued with the essence of Jerry Garcia? Has he seen where the wolf has slept by the silver stream? I think not.

Just heard China doll on one of his live shows , soo cool .
@@RJ-bn5uw saw a clip of them covering deal wasnt the best vid but jam was good
I've heard these boys play an amazing wagon wheel
Technically John Phillips...
The dude from The Mamas and papas.
Who the dead then covered...
Saw him a few nights ago -- Totally delivered -- No Dead tunes -- Bluegrass++, but he can rock too.

Billy knows the roots. He and the boys are growing new branches all the time. Jerry is smilin' like the Cheshire Cat right about now...
Not to mention John Phillips from The Mommas and the Poppas who wrote this song.
Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrr
The music never stops
Let's leave Jerry out of it, shall we?
@@NoodleSoupBass the story goes he doesn't remember writing it
Billy is the definition of the heart of America, we love you come back to northern NY. We need you. 🍻🇺🇸🦅
the best rendition I've ever heard by any other band besides the dead.
I'm a big fan of the Dino Valente version myself.
Look up Joni Mitchell covering it.
I perfer Billy's singing waaay more the bobby shouting into the mic. Don't get me wrong. I love the dead. Threw and threw. But this gives any dead version a run for its money.
Goose Morris, CT 9/16/20 opening song. Best Me and my Uncle I've heard.
@@mattcouch2965 Really? The words are all fucked.
Rock on Billy!!! You boys are right in the Pocket! Keep it there and thanks for keepin' the Dead Alive!!! 👍🏻✌🏻
He is the real deal, no one out there can touch his playing!
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS MAN AND BAND !!!!!!!! Xoxo
From Morristown Tennessee
Im so happy I went down the billy dead covers today . BIG GRIN JUST SITTING BACK
I hear lots of 'Away From The Mire' in this jam ❤
Generally the Dead would never include a jam break in this tune. Bravo to Billy and his boys for giving themselves permission to take a little journey here.

The jam stems from Billy forgetting the lyrics I think. Saw quite a few Dead shows and nothing new there!
I think your right! Honestly might be the first time I’ve seen him noticeabley drop some words. He knows about a million songs it seems so I get it.
Billy strings or John mayer? Lol
On the live dead album where they play the song, Garcia breaks away with a fine lead. Just not as extensive as here. Personally I'd like it on lead guitar. John Phillips from The Mamas and Papas wrote the song.
My favorite uncle and I had more than a few wild rides together and this song is so special...RIP Uncle Buddy

I was at this show on Hot Buttered Rum's guestlist. Got to pick with Billy a little in the campground.
Peace Love Billy Strings!
It's actually a song by John Phillips (Mamas & Papas) which became a standard for GD
Fantastic! And some Wow! Thank you Billy Strings Channel.
Bobby Weir... Billy Strings.... my o my..
Damn Billy String you just never stop amazing me !! Brilliant
Definitely forgot that verse and just played straight into that massive solo
Ya, he jumped the verse about my uncle starts winnin'. But the solo is epic to cover it.
for some reason this is the verse I always forget when I'm playing it as well. Usually I just stumble back into it about halfway through, never thought to just solo it out before.
@@stonahmusiclover me 2…maybe cause it’s about cold blooded murder? Bobby always nailed the verse!

Awesome.
jerry grooven from above.
Garcia himself has to be impressed
This fucking rocks
Old Deadhead here. Bob Weir is not the best singer. This kid, however, absolutely nails this. Now please cover "Deal" by the JGB.
Beautiful!

More dead covers. You are more than you know. See you soon William and the gang
Is that a dead cover 🤔
Bob's your uncle
When Bob Weir and Bill Kreutzman retire, Billy Strings John Mayer and Joe Russo should keep touring as Dead and Co.
Careful. You might be dead long before Bob Weir "retires."
John Mayer…ehhh

He doesn’t need permission to play anyway he wants to play.
Sorry your mix was off. Banjo was a little overpowering and vox were a little quiet

No.
