I liked moving the finger levers in the old voting booths and watching an X appear. To exit the booth you had to turn a large hand lever that would reset the machine and open the curtain.

To find out the vote totals, one would have to unlock the back of the voting booth and read what the digital counter recorded, e.g. Nixon 2,032; Kennedy 2,275. The results would then be certified by the elections official and the machine would be sealed. The results would be phoned into the Board of Elections and the appropriate paper work would be filed.
I miss the old machines. That's back when we truly had privacy to vote without your neighbors lurking over your shoulder and poll workers "offering to help" without being asked while they glance at your ballot and make faces.
Can we get an updated version of this? Shorter, leaving out the history? For many, this detail is crucial to decrease anxiety and may lead to more people going to the polls.
