- This version of "Simple Man" was recorded live to 1" analog tape at Creampuff Studios in Nashville, TN. I think we did two takes, and chose the best one of the two lol.. Although posted in 2016, this video lit up during the pandemic- Up 550,000 views in April 2020 alone. I'm beyond grateful for the attention and support. "Simple Man" wasn't always part of my repertoire- After recording in Muscle Shoals, AL in 2016 (just before this cover was made); being there left me feeling far more connected to the music made there.. the music I'd always loved. I know my version of this iconic song stems from that experience.

My 1st born, my only son, died July 12th, 2020 - I sang this to him when he was born in 1979, we would rock together each morning and I would say these words to him.....he was a simple man...a true Texas cowboy who loved the land, his family, the cattle, his dog and the Lord...I miss him so much💔

C Haralson I'm sorry for your loss. This song gets me in the heart too. My mother died from Dementia in 2016, and all she wanted was for my brother and myself to get what we want out of life and be happy.
Texas boys grow up to be Texas Men. I lost my dad to 4 different stage 4 cancers. We Texas men and boys are tough, but I wish I had known this song as i do only now. Sometimes we need to hear it's alright to simplify, so we may amplify. I have no doubt your boy knew your love, how rare that's become these days. Not in a Texas countryside, of course, but it's nice this song can pass it on where we texans dare not traverse...condolences.

Stumbled upon this video while working up in Alaska. Escaped up there while dealing with some personal issues. Wounded combat vet going through a rough patch with the wife and trying to deal with my past. This song, her voice, and her emotion spoke to me. Don’t know what it was about it but it touched me.

Sometimes I hate UA-cam: I've watched the Shinedown version of this song hundreds of times, and it's taken their algorithm four years to drop this in my recommendations. I feel completely robbed. Amazing voice, amazing cover.

This song reminds me of my mom. I took care of her for 9yrs before she past from cancer after the doc told her she only had 2yrs to live.

Simple Man is one of my favorite songs of all time. I heard your version a few months ago and had to come back and listen again. Out of the countless covers across the internet yours is by far head and shoulders above the rest. I love your rendition and it stays true to the original in the areas that it needs to.

I love Lynyrd Skynyrd. Shinedown did a good job. Being raised by a single mother from a very young age, this hit home.
I believe it was Allen Collins who wrote the guitar riffs for this song and it became a big ol hit for lynyrd skynyrd, then about 40 years later shinedown recorded a version of simple man and blew the world away..
Fun fact: shinedowns original guitarist "Jason todd " was engaged to ronnie van Zant's daughter melody, and they were all hanging out one evening and melody asked brent and jason to play simple man for her, at first brent didnt really want to do that but decided ok , and when they played the song ,melody was in awe and insisted that they had to record that song and would be what ultimately put shinedown on the map.. 😉

I dedicated this song to my 3 sons when they were young. On August 25, 2018 my oldest, Jonathan, died at age 29, in a fatal car accident. Of the 3 I can say that Jonathan embodied this song and lived his life to the fullest & died doing what he loved. What an amazingly beautiful version of this song for all mothers who have and will dedicate this song to their sons! 💞💞💞 RIP my beautiful boy!

I lost Mom spring of 2019. I've listened to Lynrd Skynrd Simple Man many times since then and it hasn't torn me up like this clean and simple take. Sometimes the message of a song can get lost in the production, absolutely not knocking the original, but this version opened my eyes to this. Be yourself, be humble, and don't settle for someone you can live with, but seek out the one you can't live without.
