My wife and l really enjoy your videos. You are a Hoot!!! Keep up the good work. I would like to see you three shooting stock factory rifles all the same scopes. Maybe cz americans.
I got my eye on you too sir. I know you upgraded that CZ457 Bolt work cocking indicator and such. Along with that Kidd 10/22. Not sure why you are sitting on the sideline watching and not joining the challenge sir 😉😉 LET's GO!!!!
Always enjoy your passion, it certainly makes watching your content enjoyable! I've owned a model 52 B for 30 years, and i can honestly say its picky about shooting .3 and .4 inch groups at 50 yds, however the rifle can shoot an inch at 50 yds with a variety of ammo, which is a testament to the quality of the rifle. i have 2 wooden stocks for the rifle, the standard, and a Fajen thumbhole, that's been glass bedded, the bedded stock does make a difference.
Yeah some of my own rifles have shot the Eley 1055 ammo like a shot gun but shoot SK Pistol Match like .3's. Seeing this be so consistent does speak to quality. It makes me wonder if ANYTHING I own will be around 50 years from now in the shape this rifle is in and shooting like this.
Check out Midway USA and Larry Potterfield as he did a complete review of the Winchester 52 series. 52E was built strictly for the Olympic shooters and never made it into the Winchester catalog. There are very few Win E's out there. There are a few Win D's but the E's are a rare find. Great Rifle.
I often wonder how hard it must be to concentrate when you are thinking about cameras, speaking and the rifle cooling down sometimes during your entertaining and informative jawing😂. I was thinking you might shoot some off camera targets sometime . I’ll bet they are much better . I was wondering all that and then the center x came out . Btw, velocity on that lot is 1072. I’m loving the walnut and steel rifles . I gotta go check out Dr Evil Nibs videos! Just what I need… another rabbit hole 😂
the LENDARY MODEL 52!! NONE have been made better;THE most accurate rimfire rifle ever made!! Just gotta find the ammo type your example LOVES the best!!
My 52D takes at least 10-20 rounds to season it after cleaning or an ammo change. It loves Midas+, but Center-X is pretty darn close. It wears an EGW 0-moa mount. I wouldn’t dream of drilling the receiver.
Man you have the best rifle made in your Savage Anschutz 54 Sporter 22 LR and it with your help shoots better than most others. Have faith Anschutz will do it for you enabling you to be equsl or better. Cheers
OMG! What do you have there ? You have a in fact genuine Winchester Model 52 E ! Your rifle is within 400 of my serial #. My rifle hates Eley as does several of my others. You have the standard trigger, as opposed to the Kenyon. Be careful on setting the trigger too light. You will get a fire on close if it gets too light. Congratulations my friend. There is a certain pride in ownership on a 52.
@@Dayattherange If you are going to shoot with Eley ammo and a loose front rest, bring a pocket full of cash and you will go home with enough left for a cup of coffee if it aint Starbucks! :) :) I'm glad you found one so you will stop lusting for mine! LOL and LOL
I was very disappointed in the performance of the Eley Match. I was more than impressed with the Lapua. Happy days! Thank you my friend. I’m going to get some Lapua and also some RWS to test in my Tikka and Anschutz.
Would love to see the challenge between Ned and Joe. You can compete with that rifle and lapua, maybe try some other lots but stick with lapua. Eley seems to have lost its dominance it once had I have noticed with all my rifles its ammo is not consistent. Lapua has it beat if you can find it.Your videos make my day 😅
I have seen two different styles of 52E over the years. The one like yours is referred to as the “Target” model. Then there is the International match with the thumbhole stock. Looks like yours may have an Al Freeland buttplatr
Have not tried Long Range yet. There are so many saying they have luck with SK Pistol Match Special I want to try it, then Long Range seems like the second most requested.
I tested many boxes of Eley Match ammo. Speeds on the box ranging from 1042 to 1078. All the ammo chronyed from 1080 up to 1110. I found that out that speeds printed on the boxes are not accurate. Eley Match ammo is usually a lot faster than the speed printed on the box. Also, this ammo is the only ammo I shoot that gives me a misfire. I take the round, rotate it 180 degrees, and put it back in the rifle. The round will usually fire then. This shows me there is inconsistant priming with this ammo.
Get the Win 52 book by Herbert Houze. I could have bought it for $25 but I had to wait for it to go out of print. Think I paid $300 plus for it. Gun books are going up in value faster than the guns.
The only feed ramp i trust from the era is a anschutz 54 I own a remington 40x but i always throw it in the chamber the anschutz 54 i just drop them in. Its most certainly the best design out of all of them
Love these video’s! What’s with this Ransom Rest? It’s lookin’ some different. What is that huge block in the middle and it seems to be missing a wheel?
@@Dayattherange mine has and the other one I’ve seen you use has two wheels and I don’t recognize the massive block in the middle. Not that I can keep up with all the latest tech, but I’m always curious, especially if you’re using it!
Is there a way I can send you pics of my Winchester 52 E (International match stock and Karl Kenyon trigger)? It shoots like that too when I do my part!! Glad to share pics if I knew how. Brian
Thank you so much. Honestly I don't have one that's why you see so many different brands. There is a local shop that get's Eley and Lapua from time to time at reasonable prices. I have also used goodshootinginc very nice people and family owned.
Try rechambering the round that didn't go off with a 1/4 turn and It should fire. In my ARA matches I fired over 5000 rounds of Eley Match In my Falcon action benchrest rifle and had 4 or 5 that didn't go off until I rechambered the round so the firing pin would hit a different spot. When it fired it did not affect the accuracy of the round. Some lots of Eley Match only took 4 or 5 rounds to season a clean barrel where other took up to 20 rounds. Go figure
When I was wrapping up to go home I did exactly this and the thing did go off go figure. JD that's why I feel I do not find the best ammo rifle match all the time. If it isn't ready in 5 I move on but that's why I tried to fire 15 shots to see. Then on the other hand Lapua CenterX was ready.
I don't think you have the right ammo. Try some Sk plus or Sk stardard or some SK long range Or some Lapua Long range. You have 2 or 3 hit in the same spot then it would jump away and drop 1 or 2. I think it has a great potential
SK Pistol Match Special I think may be up next simply because so many 52 owners have told me to try it and they are having great luck. Then I might tap into Long Range
If my memory serves me right the Winchester 52E had an aftermarket trigger made by Karl Kenyon. I don't think Winchester made very many 52E's I hope that some Winchester expert can verify this information.
Jim, the Kenyon was offered as an option, not standard. His is NOT a Kenyon. The model E was the only model made that had a drilled and tapped receiver. And I believe the E was the only one made with the deep recessed crown. The E stock , later models will not have a cutout inside the stock for the barrel band.
That's why I snuck out while she was at work. The conversation was like, this old rifle nah babe it will be more frustration than not, Matt the owner told me it was a pain in the BUTT.
Throw the Eley away.I had 15 lots of Eley Tenex tested at Whidden gun works Offical Eley test range and my rifle did not like it at all . Had a box of lapula long range with me and we tried it and it shot better than the Eley.My other rifle likes Eley.Your Winchester doesn’t like it.Go to lapula or sk maybe Rws . Then go pick the fight 😋
You might want to have the crown check inside the recess.you have to think the tooling they had then was not the most precise as we have today.the technology was not as advanced as we have today
To the my naked eye and crown looks great, though not a bad idea not sure I need to finding the best ammo. You know you do make me think about how gifted these people were back in the day turning out quality like this with the tooling they had WOW.

You might round robin your groups to reduce possible barrel temp influence wind fluctuation. 🤷♂️😊
It’s definitely a legit 52E. They were drilled and tapped from the factory, and had that massive recessed crown. I had one just like yours.
