acTuALly 🤓, Def Jam uses the AKI engine which was first introduced in WCW/NWO Revenge that came out on the N64. so you’re not wrong, but they also weren’t the first to use these mechanics, but were definitely the first to introduce different elements like the crowd being able to help you or using the environment for KO’s.

I think they tried to recreate the engine but if I recalled AKI the company that made this engine went bankrupt Many years ago and got bought out and the team that made this engine is either scattered or retired from Game development. I heard that new AEW game brought back the head dev but not the rest of the team
