Lyrics:
"The problem is all inside your head"
She said to me
"The answer is easy if you
Take it logically
I'd like to help you in your struggle
To be free
There must be fifty ways
To leave your lover"
She said, "It's really not my habit to intrude
Furthermore, I hope my meaning
Won't be lost or misconstrued
But I'll repeat myself
At the risk of being crude
There must be fifty ways
To leave your lover
Fifty ways to leave your lover"
You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free
Ooh, slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just listen to me
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free
She said, "It grieves me so
To see you in such pain
I wish there was something I could do
To make you smile again"
I said, "I appreciate that
And would you please explain
About the fifty ways?"
She said, "Why don't we both
Just sleep on it tonight
And I believe in the morning
You'll begin to see the light"
And then she kissed me
And I realized she probably was right
There must be fifty ways
To leave your lover
Fifty ways to leave your lover
You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free
Slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just listen to me
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free

Simon and Garfunkel are the kind of group you do not listen to for months. Then you play one song and proceed to play everything they ever recorded . They are just that good.....
Or you listen to them once and never stop listening to them actually. I guess it's been over half a year since I started listening to them seriously (earlier I used to know only a few songs like Mrs Robinson or The Sound Of Silence). It was like discovering when my home is. Since that time I've been listening to their songs almost every day (except the days when I was ill or outside home). Hope that I will never stop, even when I'm old.
@@somebodysaccount No worries. You won´t. - I am 62. And these guys are singing my youth. I will listen to their music - and sing along - to my last day.
You are so right Peter Black.
@@somebodysaccount True, thats me. All through lockdown... Day and night. Listening to them right now through my earphone, while I paint my doors. They've been my lockdown companion. Love them endlessly.
Absolutely..doing that right now..can't stop!
When the drums are just as famous as the song.
100% I love playing this on drums
Thanks to Steve's time in the military.
Steve is a Gadd.
@@slide_drexler Thank Gadd he was available to play this gig.
I never thought the band would be able to capture the funky chorus, but I was pleasantly surprised. 👍🏽❤🎶
I was at this concert with my girlfriend and when we got there it looked like Woodstock because over 500,000 people showed up.. One of the best free concerts I have been to..
At the time of this concert I was 9 years old and already a fan of their music. Obviously I could not attend since I was just a german child, but I SWORE to myself that I would attend a S&G concert some day. Made my dream come true in 2013 at their "Old Friends" reunion tour ... bought the tickets online, flew in from Germany to Los Angeles and watched them at the Staples Center ... singing along the entire concert ... with tears in my eyes. Childhood dream come true ... :)
Wow . You are so lucky. Bless are you. ✨😇🤟🏻. From Italy. 🇺🇸🇮🇹. 🌈
I was waaaay to young to be at any S&G concerts. But we had PBS. And that concert was broadcast once a year to coincide with the Fall pledge season.
Simon and Garfunkel didn't go to Woodstock. Woodstock came to them. Let that sit in for a minute..
Paul Simon is a fucking genius...the tone of his voice is a gift from god and his guitar technique is refined and rich...compete with lennon-mccartney etc...
Simon > Garfunkel x 100
I’m 81 and I still find new ways to enjoy S &G.
This great old song helped me change my life. Back in the mid-1970s, I was in a bad, destructive relationship that was not healthy for either of us. I found myself sitting in traffic wondering what the hell I was going to do, when all of a sudden, like the answer to a prayer, this song began. All of a sudden I knew what to do and two weeks later, I was free, still screwed up, but free. Thanks Paul.
Best. Story. Ever. Back when music...was...well....MUSIC!!!!
Thanks for sharing brother
So did you slip out the back or hop on the bus?
@@Geoff4822 he made a new plan stan
I like how you said 'still screwed up but free'. It's never as simple as a song, right? But it's doable once you see a light in the tunnel. :)
Steve Gadd, bossing EVERYTHING.
That snare swings
Truth
His intro is 🔥!!!
holy shitballs, i was wondering who played that intro so smooth then checked the comments. 2 googles later, it's gadd. ty
One of the best drum Groove intros ever
Gadd, Richard Tee and Anthony Jackson - what a rhythm section!
Whoa who's tickling the ivory? My hero
That Gadd-Tee-Jackson rhythm section also played for Grover Washington.
Steve Gadd, one of the best drummers of all times
The whole band is top notch 👌
They feel the music
He has beautiful eyes
Oh yeah.. sex on legs Simon...💕
50 ways to use Art as an artistic backdrop
Everything is great, the sharpness of the horns, Gadd's space, the guitar solo. I love love love the chorus. But what really sticks out is the rhodes playing of Richard Tee, which is unbelievably groovy.
For me, Anthony Jackson. Without question, Anthony Jackson.
GOD what a handsome man!
Paul’s beyond handsome - those eyes OMG 😱
The incomparable Steve Gadd on drums.
Omg 😲 I shared with my 30yr old GRANDson❗❗😱
Music 🎶 is GREAT. Enjoy. Oldie but goodie z. 😀
"Just tell her you're gay ray" he missed a great additional lyric there lol, Paul Simon's music still holds up to this day! My music producer friend introduced me to the Graceland album when we were 16 and I've been hooked ever since, Such good memories hanging out in his basement blasting Paul Simon. I wanna throw my friend some love as we've been through a lot together try searching Lonely Gimmick - Beaches, it's his latest single and it gives me Paul Simon vibes, I'm honestly so impressed with it, its one of those songs that makes you happy when you listen to it
I was a 14 year old guitar novice and remember seeing this concert in German TV and being completely blown away. The chords, harmony, melody of Paul Simon (solo or with Art Garfunkel) are just out of this world.
Although I still rather like the Simon & Garfunkel formula, this one of the only Simon is jolly good
As always, hats off to Steve Gadd.
Hi-hats off to Steve Gadd :)
Thats Anthony Jackson on bass, btw.
These guys will never go out of style. Elegance is a quality synonymous with the spirit. Simon & Garfunkel not only proved it, but they are a living example of this ideal.
Garfunkel thinking "Gee, I could have used this slapper on my album Scissors Cut"
Steve Gadd forever!! Happy birthday to Paul who turns 77 years young today.
Sure Paul is great, but what an awesome band !
Paul Simon ist verdammt gut. Stimme betörend, toller Songwriter, Gitarrist und Performer. Immer elegant und mit Understatement.
Apparently it's Steve Gadd's birthday today - so Happy Birthday Steve - I have always admired your playing.
Gosh! I almost forgot this song! Simon is perfect and this concert should become a symbol for music, real music not what we hear now on media.
As drummer who plays & uses this grove a lot I would like to say thank you Steve Gadd & Paul Simon for recording it ;)
Also a drummer and agree. It's like Elton John dialing up Dee Murray on Love Lies Bleeding. Gadd's part, like Murray's, makes the song, and the marquee name recognized they needed to be second billing for once.
Some of the best drumming ever in popular music
Paul Simon is really talanted😀🌹
hey you - Too bad that spelling isn't one of your talents.
Ya think? 😉
Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr Steve Gadd on drums. What a riff he came up with for this song?!
Listen to "Crazy Army". The riff came from his marching band cadences.
This song would not be the same without Steve Gadd's drumming.
It's great but he looks terribly bored playing it.
I really like this song. I realise it’s Paul Simon’s. Art is just listening in 💜😁
Oh dear. So young. I was born older than that.
Thank you, dear Daddy, for keeping me safe.
Steve Gadd, genius. Garfunkel looks so inspired clapping his hands!
The band was f'n awesome in this one.
How cute was he...
Amazing drumming by Gadd, as always, and killer guitar solo by David Brown from 2:57-3:42.
I read that as David Bowie and needless to say I was quite confused.
I thought it was Dave Mustaine.
@@johnjuan6698 Hahaha! He’s a badass too, though
Yes! Like his drumming on Aja, he’s as good as you could imagine
Super musical solo
Genius.
By far my favourite version of this song - the horn section sample of "Hold On, I'm Coming" is a big part of why.
That is absolute poetry by Steve Gadd!
Amazed they got STANLEY KUBRICK to play drums on this!!! Awesome!
Thats steve gadd
His voice is a national treasure and along with Paul Simon's masterful song writing spoke for an entire generation.
More than one generation. At least 3 in my family. ❤ 😍
This is only Simon singing
Many, many years ago, when i discovered this song on the S&G concert in Central Park LP, i realised that i was going to be a Paul Simon fan much more than a S&G fan...
This song and Mother and Child Reunion, Gone At Last and Loves Me Like A Rock are the few 70's Paul Simon hits that probably couldn't be done as Simon and Garfunkel duets.
Classy, intelligent, humorous.
Ever single one of them on the stage a consummate musician in their own right ❤️
wow, this backing band is just terrific!
You need 50 ways, because leaving your lover is one of the hardest things you can do in this life.
The hand motion and little laugh at 2:22 are great.
I remember my mum playing their songs on an old record player
Stevie Gadd on drums... Iconic lick!
I found it helpful to listen to their songs repeatedly after bereavement in 2012 and last week or so first an Art Garfunkel video accompanying a song that seems to take off a neighbour at the end and then the Paul Simon song last couple of days. I believe myself the subject of a political assassination and maybe only the cat believes me so it's quite stressful although at least I wont get cancer.
18 Years Old. No Plan - Other than gas - Forever burned in my memory - Pure Love!!
Just saw Paul in Bend, Oregon at the Les Schwab Amphitheater. 🎶(06/24/17)🎶 His entire performance was unforgettable and EVERYTHING I had come to expect!!! It was a perfect ending to a amazing evening! 🕊A living legend!!! 🎶🎸🎶
Lucky you
I have serious concert envy! 😘
Somebody told the Folk guy to groove - and he did
Awesome band! There were absolutely no weak links. I wish the camera had panned to the piano a bit more often. That dude was smooth. I don't think I've heard a better performance of this song. Ever. Anywhere.
This is my first time listening to the song and is incredible
Paul Simon: "Steven Gadd on the drums."
0:31 50 ways to leave your lover
^
Die in Minecraft
What an absolutely stunning arrangement of people on stage. Much love.
Who do you see? That is Don H. too?
My old new favorite song!! Love it!!
Love when Steve Gadd's on the drums
That was held in my last year in college in 1981. It was covered heavily by the local news networks in NY/NJ. A terrific high school song.
Maravillosos! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
i believe in the morning you'll begin to see the light
A very cleverly constructed song .
Haha, Art is just standing around with his hands in his pockets.
He was leadin' that horn section.
Standing around doing nothing as usual
Lol
Like "when's my turn"?
Art being a non factor. Hard to believe someone at that level, with that many people on stage and he has nothing to contribute but looking stupid. Maybe in the terms of the contract. 'During performances of Mr Simon's solo material respondent is enjoined from participation and must remain a non factor and remain on stage in order to receive compensation.
@@jaywarren5261 Well, he's good for a cool 60 million dollars. So he must be doing something right I guess.
Good musicians , the drummer is excellent!
+Happey67 Drummer is Steve Gadd. A legendary drummer known for his grooves.
+Hyun Sung Thanks for the information.
Check him out in the band stuff.. legendary stuff
Long before I ever had a lover, I loved this song. Lawddddddddd, I was what 5, 6 years old?
I adored this song, and in an odd, preternatural way, I understood the angst involved in leaving your lover.
My ex's favourite easy listening band
Nostallgierne🎉❤😂😅😊
THAT' S everlasting Music.....🎉🎉🎉
What a good marching drum by Steve;)
The lyrics are amazing, chord progression? Just wow! What i really love though, the drums,so much creativity there !
Oh. Mah. Gadd.
In Gadd we trust!
For Gadd's sake ?
Gadd damn!
Don't make jokes about God
Gadd only knows
Sooo much better (funkier) than the original version!!
Song that originated with a rhyming song Paul used to sing to his son.
He didn't have a bad looking face. I forgot he ever looked that young
Ridiculous comment 🙄
with steve gadd on the drums , you cant go wrong
everyone that knows this song ALWAYS sings the lines everytime while bobbing our heads in synchronicity. 100% true
Classic! After all these years the Song still comes to mind and brings a laugh, smile, and words of wisdom in times when you or a friend feels there's no easy way out.
Steve Gadd "Gold"
This is great! This is how it should have been done, originally, to include the background vocals in the original version.
God I love Paul Simon this song has been going thru my head all Christmas time. I was lucky enough to see Paul & Art with the Everly brothers in Hyde park London I was gobsmacked. Paul I love you thank you for your incredible music I just hope you read this
Gadd's Drums pattern is superb,Simon's talks singing and Art ,oops,is looking for something to do!
Throughout the concert, even in the songs he did sing, you could tell he's uncomfortable.
Always thought that was one of the funniest songs as a 70z kid. 😂 Still love it today at 51. 💖
What a banger
Such an awesome Steve Gadd lick!
A great song from my childhood memories that my late Dad loved. The drums in this song fit well with the bicentennial year of 1976 which is the year this song took off on the charts.
This is why I fell in love with Paul Simon's music. Timeless hits such as Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover, Sounds of Silence. Legendary songwriter and timeless musician.
I wrote a version of this called Fifty Ways To Tell A Sermon.
But if they pushed it to the point where I feel like giving a sermon that's an encyclopedia worth.. that's where I'm ironically giving them the "TLDR fuck off" version. (Because it's just not worth it giving the covert sadist the satisfaction of showing too much sweat anymore!)
good song to listen too around the holidays when you need too remind your self why you had to go
Got this album when I was a teenager & this was one of my favourite songs.... the arrangement more than the message. Could listen to it all day
This song was my first real listen of Paul Simon after reading about him in a Rock n Roll photography book. So glad I found his music, now with Art.
That military drum rhythm by Gadd is smoooothy.
An absolute masterpiece.
Ahhh Paul is so cute!!! How adorable😍
what a great groove lesson.
I like this song
Really it adds a perfect way to 50 ways to die in Minecraft
@@lukebecerra7568 Ready sego
Good Gadds that was awesome!!!
In the morning I began to see the light! Got myself free...i just slipped out the back!
He is THE GADD!
