Amazing! Changed electrodes, cleaned everything, checked baffle, checked valve but replaced anyway. WB told me the tip on restricting airflow but neglected to go and tell me LPG probably destroyed the impellers 🤦 thanks so much for this

    Totally coincidental.....
About the same time this was posted I had a customer text me a picture of her 30Si compact LPG with EA on the screen..... Brilliant....
Great video as always, makes this one even sweeter that I can go with confidence tomorrow, nice one

Just to add to greenstar si compact knowledge base regarding another way to have "woof" noise and or the EA 227 fault code.
Greenstar Si Compact boiler NG with intermittent "woof" noise repeating at 1 second intervals, loudest top left near fan, mixer and combustion inlet . Noise started off quiet & rare becoming noisier & for longer periods though still intermittent over many months. Servicing could not replicate the noise or find significant fault with fan or combustion. Electrodes received attention, this did not help. Later boiler starts to stop often with EA 227 ionisation fault code.
Issue was traced to a distorted rubber lip seal between alloy fan housing & plastic gas mixing unit. Why only an issue under certain operating conditions unknow. Seal fault was found during disassembly for proposed fan change (expensive).
Not sure if these seals often have this issue but may be worth checking if fan appears good or was changed already but problem persists.
Cost of seal £3.04 plus vat and delivery. Not sure if seal routinely supplied with fan spare part , but its cheap!

Im sure these compacts can’t adjust the Co2 so you you would then look at the fan. Thats a great tip on restricting the air intake.

do these compact fans have internal seals or gaskets that can fail? todays issue is a intermittent cyclic woof noise from fan area. Excess air seems likely as ionisation current is all over the shop and it goes quiet if the fan unit is gently pressed down, boiler runs for days without issue otherwise so a bugger to pin down.

    Thanks for the videos Geoff.
So does this effect the NG compact boilers too or is just LPG?

Is not the impeller crumbeling but diaphragme between electric motor and turbine.

Especially on LPG? Is this causing the impeller to breakdown?

Can someone explain why the the fan blades breaking away would cause excess air? Surely broken fan blades would mean less air being sucked into the combustion chamber

seems odd but fans units have sensors so fragments could screw its speed control all sorts of ways up or down. Fan is all about control over a range of firing rates and positive and negative pressures.

Seems an odd fault, I guess a lot of engineers will assume it needs a hex flush with that low air pressure as the fan will appear operational
