U couldn’t go wrong with this renovation, no matter what you did it would have been so much better than before. The idea of laundry and kids space together is actually super nice.
It is obvious this landlords were negligent and did not care to keep the property in good shape. The poor tenants. The kitchen and baths were disgusting.
This home had terrible landlords. They seemed to have neglected everything and then were stunned asking how things got that way. Because you didn't fix it!!!!!!
Actually keeping a house clean and not destroying anything is the responsibility of the renters. The landlords needs to make sure it is safe and that everything works it is supposed to, also the landlord is responsible for the upkeep of the outside.
But renters get upset when landlords want to do check ins on their property. So how are they supposed to know how the property is being maintained over the years?
That place before SO gave me the creeps that I have a difficult time liking it after it was done. Good job by you girls, but sheesh! There are some places I would definitely refuse and this would be one.
This is just outside Seattle Washington. It's location and the land. The land is worth a fortune here. What I find upsetting is these two as landlords let the house get to that condition. They could easily have put into the rental agreement that the place had to be inspected once a year or so for livability and to do any repairs. They are slum lords pure and simple.
I would have been so embarrassed to list that property the way it looked at the beginning. I don't buy that they didn't know how run down it was. Terrific job by L&L
Exactly….how are you asking over 400K for a house in that condition, you had to have known why it didn’t sell for months, I think this is just editing for “drama”
They knew what they were doing by asking L& L to do all the work. Like they didn't have the money to upkeep their property. They just didn't care. They didn't have to live there. Probably never gotten their hands dirty a day in their life.
@kharrell8356 It's possible that the roof has been redone or replaced in the last twenty five years. They likely also repainted in between the two longterm tenancies. Just a guess...
The worst type of landlords. Collecting rent for 25 years and not maintaining their property. Then blaming the tenants for the disrepair and getting a free renovation on top of that. I smell a script with this whole show!
@melissabugg5579 I expect Ted and Theresa were relying on the excess demand for property in Everett to be able to sell this house dirty, with dry rot, and unrenovated! It's possible they had given it directly to an agent to sell without even inspecting the condition. Husband didn't seem to know about the purple paint and the irregular kitchen floorboards 😧
@@comealongcomealong4480whatever, they knew the state of the property. You just saw his reaction he and his wife practiced the day before. Soo fake. Lol
They let their property go to absolute crap, then blame the renters paying their mortgage. I don't think this show should be helping greedy landlords...
@Elaine-lr6kl It's possible that Ted and Theresa have not been living nearby for many years. They seemed very hands-off about this house after moving on. They likely left Everett as young marrieds, and the rental and maintenance of the property was passed to a property management company. The old story is - the tenants petition the agent for upkeep or repairs. And the owner responds - "not at the moment, I have two mortgages to pay and no spare money right now". And so the years pass by! But you are correct. Comfortably out-of-sight for the owners, unconcerned about the standard of home provided in exchange for rent.
Shame on them for renting out such an absolute *dump.* And they couldn't even be bothered to clean the place before putting it on the market! What horrible people, only interested in money. Or as she said at the end, "let's make some money!" Sickening. 🤮
They knew what they were doing. I'm sure they had done their research on how they could get someone to renovate for them without costing them a penny. I guarantee you they reached out to every renovation show for their area. I was disappointed L& L took the job.
I liked the backyard better with the canopy. You ladies do a very nice job as house stylists. I wish that I could hire you for this apartment I'm living in.
As a renter, I am so tired of hearing landlords bitching about tenants. I always leave a place in better and cleaner condition than when I moved in. Most landlords don't give a damn. Won't fix things timely, place isn't clean when I move in, etc. They don't appreciate their good tenants so they get what they deserve with their bad ones.
Of course he was. He got on tv and made a ton of money even though he was a deplorable entitled douche landlord. Even showed his daughters at the end on how to make others do all the work.
It is hard to believe the landlords had zero idea about modifications in the home or the added door and plant colors. Wow. Talk about ignorance being bliss. Great reno
I agree the place is deplorable and they have been neglectful, but having been a landlord (not by choice), I cannot tell you how surprised I was how quickly tenants can wreck a place-such as tearing molding off, etc., it does not take much time at all. Before we rented we always had the house looking good and professionally cleaned, it was never returned that way
It does seem like they could've been renting it for more if they kept it up well. Everett is not a cheap place to live. So I think they miss manage the rental property. But in saying that I wouldn't want to be a landlord for anything. Not nowadays were people trash the houses they live in.
I was expecting them to reopen the garage for a car...huge driveway/house, yet no garage?? The laundry room was poorly done-on carpet w/ no shelving/storage for laundry necessities?
I'd think it'll be difficult for owners to sell it now... Their faces were telling me they want to keep house for themselves! Or maybe that's the ka-ching! ka-ching! look.
@irislessa6251 See the figures @9:30. As the final sale price was $608,000 - first the sisters get repaid the $70,000 renovation cost they put in with their own money. (And pay their contractors and suppliers.) That leaves $538,000 of the sucesssful sale price. The deal they make with the owners is based on the original list price - in this case $410,000. So $538,000 minus $410,000 = $128,000 of clear profit as a result of their renovations. The deal they make is to split the extra profit their work generates 50/50. So the sisters close with $64,000 from their investment of time, labour and design work. The couple, Ted and Theresa, walk away with $474,000 from the house sale. They have a mortgage to pay out. Whatever is left is used for their daughters' college fund.
@@comealongcomealong4480 The owners probably owned it mortgage-free or almost free so they ended up with a huge chunk of money to pay for their kids' college expenses.

So, they rented it out, but never did any inspection or maintenance or anything!? 😳 That place was awful.
Kinda surprised, it’s not like they were young property owners.
This home had terrible landlords. They seemed to have neglected everything and then were stunned asking how things got that way. Because you didn't fix it!!!!!!
Love when landlords blame the renters for not upkeeping their own home. Like, this was your responsibility.
Actually keeping a house clean and not destroying anything is the responsibility of the renters. The landlords needs to make sure it is safe and that everything works it is supposed to, also the landlord is responsible for the upkeep of the outside.
That was way more that just normal renter wear and tear!
Very true. Most tenants do take care of the property. Major maintenance of the house is the owner's responsibility.
I can't believe they were asking $410K. The house was not livable. You did a great job!
This is just outside Seattle Washington. It's location and the land. The land is worth a fortune here. What I find upsetting is these two as landlords let the house get to that condition. they rented it then took the money and ran, l bet not one dime spent on upkeep until it was time to sell.
@kharrell8356 It's possible that the roof has been redone or replaced in the last twenty five years. They likely also repainted in between the two longterm tenancies. Just a guess...
These sisters are awesome, they have excellent decorating ideas. Their show on HGTV is one of my favorites!
The worst type of landlords. Collecting rent for 25 years and not maintaining their property. Then blaming the tenants for the disrepair and getting a free renovation on top of that. I smell a script with this whole show!
It's a TV show, next you are going to complain Dr. House MD is not real?
I can’t believe they tried to sell it in that condition.
I can. They allowed desperate renters to live in that. They knew but didn't care. Probably charged high rent as well. Just gross.
They have no pride of ownership

Typical slum lords. I hope Karma comes knocking.

Wow! That was a lovely and wonderful outcome.
I liked the kitchen and bathroom, but the big metal fridge can be seen from the lounge and is too dominating in the space
As a renter, I am so tired of hearing landlords bitching about tenants.

This is beautiful, I wish there were more people like you in South Africa and help out this way...Everyone wins ! Bravo...
You know when you rent to someone and they live there for extended period of time you need to at least paint that place here and there.....
aw. the husband seems so excited about the whole thing
Yeah, someone came and fixed his mess. Who wouldn't like that?
Of course he was. He got on tv and made a ton of money even though he was a deplorable entitled douche landlord. Even showed his daughters at the end on how to make others do all the work.
The refrigerator placement is horrible.
I bet there was no room to open it in the kitchen.😊
I cried WOW!
Love their show and these two talented sisters!
People had to live in that and she's wearing Burberry 🙄
It is hard to believe the landlords had zero idea about modifications in the home or the added door and plant colors. Wow. Talk about ignorance being bliss. Great reno
The biggest reason some of these homes are on the market for so long is because they are overpriced.
As we say in real estate, now that was a FANTASTIC bidding war!!! Congratulations to everyone involved! Blessings and Peace ✝️❤️
These people were clearly awful landlords
turned out nicely
Fabulous 🎉

As sad as this sounds, it’s because they don’t own it! 😢
The last apartment I rented, I put so much work and money into it that the landlord raised the price $150 a month after I left
This is why I would never be a landlord.
Are there full episodes of these? The 9:49 minutes is just not enough time to go into detail. Please?!!
WHY didn't the owners do better job for their renters? This house is trash. Sorry but that is the owners greed.
Awesome job and what a lovely and deserving couple you worked with. A win - win for sure.
Definitely not a deserving couple. They had the means to renovate themselves. Just chose not to.
Why is this featured on HGTV UK?
"How did you get it bigger?" That's what she said!
Slumlord 💔💔💔💔💔‼️

Some do, most don't is my experience.
Lovely ✌️
These people as landlords are horrible people
They should sell their house and move in there. What does their house look like??
Considering this house was a real mess I can say that the Reno wasn’t that bad but doesn’t look like wow. Interior design is facing a talent shortage.
Lipstick on a pig is still a pig.
Ahhh, as the crow flies, you ladies are 7,000, miles away from me, give or take a few hundred. I'll keep watching and maybe you'll rub off on me.
I was expecting them to reopen the garage for a car...huge driveway/house, yet no garage?? The laundry room was poorly done-on carpet w/ no shelving/storage for laundry necessities?

Negligent landlords
Why do they film traffic on a reno show?
Before the remodel, the place was a disaster, dirty, old paint colors…etc. Obviously, owner didn’t do Jack-Shxt to it in 25 years!

So they only made $10k???
The house sold for $608,000 so they each got $64,000.
It needed too much work. That's where their money went, I bet.

The renovation is awesome and all but did you just say Theresa's 50th birthday? 😂 I could swear I thought she's in her 30s!! Wow go Theresaaa! 🤩
And again grey cookie cutter, they have zero fantasy.
Bad landlords
