Great to see these photos. I was born in 1955 and spent a lot of time in Romford in my youth. So sad to see how it has changed. I know you can’t live in the past but these memories are to be cherished. Thank you
There's a photograph inside Romford Library, as a child I can clearly remember being fascinated by the Glass Lights hanging from the ceiling. Would NEVER have remembered this without the prompt of seeing this. I could only of been about 3-4 years old . Remarkable, thank you so much.
What delightful photos. I'm not from Romford but a lot of my aunts and uncles lived in the area for many years when I was young. Sadly gone now but many happy memories
wouldnt it be great for all the old Romford boys and girls to meet up in the Market one day all thos who remember Romford as it used to be you never know you might meet up with lots of your old buddys.
Thanks for compiling all the photos /prints, I was brought up in the area. Some real reminders of how I remember things in the 60's/70's, and earlier days that the family talk about. I'm back in the area now, since 2006. Very interesting to watch.
As far as the older architecture goes (basically, anything pre 1920's) we definitely lost something special here. The charm and soul of the entire area was stripped from large swathes of Romford. Judging by the photos it used to look absolutely beautiful, especially the market. Sometimes you only realise what you've lost once it's gone.
Me too, but Broxhill had been renamed to Bedfords Park when I was there and has since been redeveloped into housing. Good memories but also glad I left

I knew Romford market from 1941 to 1969. They were some of the happiest days of my life.

Born in Camberwell but grew up on Straight Road. Went to Hilldene and Broxhill. Good memories but glad I left in 1972.
