Changed the strings on my LS16M and its much better now, got rid of the nanos and went straight Martin 80/20's , this guitar is amazing for the money. Love the way he plays, DADGAD is a trip.
These seem to be a rare guitar in the US market. I have only found a couple of places online that sell this guitar. Waiting to hear if a local shop can order one for me to try. Where did you buy yours? I bought a Yamaha DW-15 about 20 years ago in a local shop and it was the same situation in that that model was mostly available in Japan and Europe but not the US. The rosewood LS16 seems to be more readily available though. Great playing by the way.
I just bought an LS16M last March, I believe I got one of the last made w/o transacoustic. The guitar has a distinctive crispy icy bell like tone, it plays really easily...but theres a hollowness ( to me...) in the lower mids, where I guess Im looking for a little deeper warmer sound. ( using elixir nano 12;s) I like it best for finger style though on strumming it sustains forever.......I love the guitar , but perhaps its the smaller body and the Englemann srpuce that makes it maybe a tad too ringy, Im curious to hear what Mark says..... Thank You, you play beautifully. God Bless
Before you do anything drastic like sell it try a swap of the nut and saddle. I put Tusq on my LL16D and it is amazing. Added horn pins too. You may like bone for the nut and saddle with mahogany.
Mmmmm, beautiful stuff man, absolutely lovely! I have the same ax, love it! Have you noticed a great difference with the bone and ebony upgrade? I've been kicking around the idea, just haven't pulled the trigger yet.
I've just bought an ls16m and it's sounds amazing to me.. this song it's really good. Did you find it yourself or have you got some sheeets to study on?
More clarity. And also Rosewood opens up better than Mohagany with age since Mohogany is a very stable wood. This is why necks are often made out of it.
just got myself one of these. did you keep yours stock? what kind of strings do you use? excellent playing man. I kept coming back to this video when I was shopping and I'm happy with my decision.
Ant Pernal so pumped to hear that!!! I'm sure you will be happy! I did put a bone nut and saddle in after the filming of this video. I also put ebony bridge pins in as well. enjoy!!!
Vladimir Malygin I think I prefer the LSm over the LJ. the neck is more comfortable and the sound is actually louder and more balanced. I love the look of the LJ though;)
Hey man awesome playing! Id love to be able to play like that .. what kind of style are you playing? Are you basically just picking individual strings within chords etc .. ?
Wow, really beautiful.
It's rare that someone's playing stops me in my tracks...so great.

Very nice indeed Mark!!
That guitar sounds so lively!
Indeed. Mine is the most resonant guitar I have ever played. Almost too much so sometimes!
beautiful

Transacoustic is a separate series labeled "TA" (LS-TA, LL-TA etc.). The standard Luxury line (LL/LD/LS 6/16/26/36/56...) ain't going nowhere.
Nice! Sounds a bit like The Water is Wide...?

Auni K I did notice a difference. this video was pre upgrade but I think the bone gives it a much more punctual soound, if that makes sense...

I found the sheet music online through Pierre Bensusan's website.
I'm waiting for the rosewood model next week. What can expect fron rosewood compared to mohogany ?

Great playing Mark!
Which Yamaha do you like more: LS16 or LJX16? Trying to decide but can't get my hands on both of them before buying..

how does he hit those notes at 0:07 my pinky won't reach! ;'(
Great play!
Nawal Gurung you just have keep practicing! It all comes together with time! Good luck!

Steven Condruk hey thanks man! I think it's mostly picking melody within the chords.
I was convinced I'd get the rosewood version, but yours sounds so nice that I think I'm a convert now. Have you tried both?
I have and would definitely go with the mahogany!
