  • Porthleven in Cornwall on the 6th January 2014. www.cornwalls.co.uk/weather/st...
    This was Winter Storm Hercules as it slammed into the south coast of the UK. The winds were only around force 7-8 but there was a huge ground swell which set the stage for a spectacular display at high tide.

    My beautiful Cornwall, our Eden. So proud of my Cornish heritage. No where on earth means as much to us Cornish as our Eden on Earth! Which is why we sing about it, paint it and are ferocious in our protection of it. Please when you come to visit our beautiful home, respect it!!

      I fell in love with Cornwall on my very first visit, I was 17 years old then. The afternoon was mist and fog and drizzle, you could hear the fog horn blowing. We were camping at Higher Harlan. The next day the weather had cleared and my heart was at home. I have loved it ever since , I don’t know why but all I can say is I was home and I belonged there. To a Cornishman I would be just another of those tourists.

    I used to live in Cornwall and have seen one or two storms I'll never forget. Once your soul has tasted that, it changes you forever.

    What an amazingly beautiful place to be. Its timelessness gives me the sense I could run into JMW Turner sketching in his note book as easily as anyone.

    Hi,
    And thank you so so much for this wonderful film. My sister moved down to near the LandsEnd and we would go down more or less every month, and this shows the beauty of Sennen Cove, and just how tiny the harbour is, I recon you could throw a stone from one side to the other with not too much effort.
    This shows just how terribly fierce the ways of the seas are as their water goes along the coast north and south pulling beached out within an hour that would take a couple of years to replenish naturally.
    Cornwall sure is a wonderful place, but as this shows it can be extreme in anything you care to bring to mind!
    I can’t recall this in detail you know the names of each inlet and such, but the film with the exact, not too dramatic music until it was necessary.
    Great stuff, thank you so much.
    This made me cry, and I think the population, or what there is at this small place should thank there fore fathers the cove harbour and the consequent very steep Town going up a hill that I always thought was too steep for me to manage to climb sometimes, but of course it’s steepness also means the water has hardly a chance, well mostly at least to do much damage as it runs back into the sea giving a brake to maybe the next waves strength eh?
    Take care
    mrbluenun

    Yes crazy weather. I come to Porthleven every year and stay in a cottage overlooking the sea on Loe Bar Road. I have seen a few big storms but nothing like this years. It is always spectacular but not too damaging. I feel for the fishermen who lost their boats and all who could not go out for weeks to fish due to the storms. Am told the new balks have been delivered so hopefully all will soon get back to normal.

    Biggest storm in 10 years BUT not the worst. December 1978 saw a Police Panda car and two Constables swept into the harbour too their deaths. A dangerous coastline with the nearby Loe Bar equally treacherous regularly snatching victims. Generally holidaymakers!

    I'd have watched it, looked good but you know storms are appreciated by all the senses. Only two are available via a computer screen or phone, seems a shame to mute the sounds and stick on some cheesy sound track.
    There's no shortage of music videos online, you have added to the category. Most people watching this didn't come for the music.
    I just cannot even begin to comprehend the mentality of people who do this. Why? Does anyone think putting music in place of the sounds of the storm a good thing? If there are you belong to a different species to me.
    Goes a long way towards explaining the insanity evident daily by the dominant bipedal denizens of this planet. I think their days are numbered.. Bloody good thing too.

    • @cornwallguide
      @cornwallguide  3 роки тому

      Have you ever heard what a force 10 gale sounds like when recorded on a cheap built in camera mic? Believe me it in no way sounds "natural".
      That aside, I loved how you extrapolated from the use of a video soundtrack to the extinction of the human race... possibly without irony?!

    • @PifflePrattle
      @PifflePrattle 3 роки тому

      @@cornwallguide You got some good shots, shame about the wind, I'm aware of the problem. I don't know how they do it but some people seem to have found a way of making reasonable enough sound recordings when videoing in stormy conditions.
      Yes I was feeling grumpy. I am a bit disappointed by humanity en masse. Equally I am amazed and frankly shamed by the outstanding actions of others.
      As for the survival of humanity, I believe there is a moral imperative for the species to survive. The long term survival of all life is dependant upon actions that can only be done by beings developed by/from us.
      As you can see extrapolation from one issue to another is a characteristic of mine. In the highly unlikely event of your being interested in what I mean let me know and I will expound further.
      Otherwise thank you for your time, I'll waste no more.
