Every year at least 100,000,000 sharks are slaughtered.
Their fins are hacked off and the sharks are then thrown back into the ocean while they're still alive where they either slowly bleed or suffocate to death. Shark fins are mostly used to make shark fin soup or "traditional" medicine.
Contrary to popular belief, shark fin soup is not healthy as the fin is purely cartilage and has no nutritional value. Though it might contain high levels of methyl mercury, which can cause permanent nerve and brain damage.
Shark Finning is destroying our oceans, through the overfisting and the fin trade shark populations are plummering.

I'm very glad sharks are getting some attention. People don't tend to feel bad for them because they aren't fluffy and cute but they are extremely important to the ecosystem.
I absolutely adore sharks and I find them interesting, so it breaks my heart whenever I see something like this happening. It's crushing to think that this doesn't get nearly enough attention to stop it and it kills me a little inside when I hear someone talking about sharks like they're monsters.

Little fact: Despite from what it seems, it's proven that sharks not only have feelings, but, they also have personalities. Some sharks are friendlier than others, others are more playful, etc.
And some are just anxious (always)
Hearing my friend voice the shark, after all the effort he'd put into practicing, makes me feel like a dad watching his child walk off on the first day of school. The fact it's for such an important message only makes it all the better. Genuinely, thank you.

As soon as I saw the shark missing his fins at the 1:00 mark, I knew what this video was about. This almost made me cry. I'm glad you guys are bringing more awareness to sharks.
The fact that the shark couldn't breathe just shows how much research goes into this

Some sepcies like nurse shark and wobbegong shark can stay still at the bottom for a long time… But yeah for most midwater swimmers, can’t swim = death.

I think if I remember correctly sharks have to constantly move in order to get oxygen, otherwise they’re dead, which just hurts even more watching this.
Our local sushi cafe makes "shark fin" soup and sushi, but it's actually a meat jelly (holodets) with some spices.
That's great, if only people realize the taste doesn't change whether or not shark fin is added

My sister saw this and started crying. She loves sharks and the ocean. She wants to be a marine biologist. She was so sad. I like that this raises awareness for sharks. I ended up getting my sister a shark plushy. A big one, may have cost more than 20$ but it was worth it to see my sister not crying anymore. She's still a little sad. Sharks deserve protection too.

As someone who is really into marine life, this tugged at my heartstrings a lot harder than what I was prepared for.
I’ve heard of this before they make the fins into soup. If there’s no sharks left we can’t keep the fish population under control since fish are sharks prey the fish population will grow bigger swarming the seas (and maybe it will soon turn bad.) also #SaveTheOcean !
I thought other fish are dying out to, due to overfishing and polution.
I frankly don't fear fish overpopulating the ocean, I fear the oceans only being populated by plankton and deep sea creatures because of us.

Sharks also feed on the sick ones, so, if sharks dissapear, the desease will spread like wildfire and while the fish populations decline from desease and lack of food (because the sudden bloom in population lead to food being consumed more that in can reproduce), the desease might even spread to us if it got the chance.
Overpopulation for fish would effect humanity more positively bc we are having a problem with fish becoming extinct and sharks evolved 400 million years ago and can still be taken down by us we are truly monsters

At least give the shark a fast death instead of throwing em back into the ocean to bleed to death
Better yet, eat/ use the whole shark. The actual muscle meat is likely more nutritious than the purely cartilaginous fins. I would never eat a shark, but using the whole animal is how they should be consumed, no commercial fishing of them. If possible, make a ring-shaped aquaculture farm for them. Put holes in it big enough for prey and the baby sharks to swim in and out. Only take a few sharks out for their meat, like less than 10 a week.

Holy shit that actually made me almost cry. I just met this shark and now I've developed feelings for it. Whoever voiced all of the characters did so good on them. They did a really good job to show the suffering of the sharks and why we need to stop removing the fins off of sharks.

Arghh, sharks are legitimately one of my favorite animals, and this legitimately makes me sick to my stomach. I can't believe humans would do something like this to such amazing creatures.

I'm literally in tears watching this, this small comic is absolutely powerful and brings attention to this horrible issue of a practice that shouldn't exist. I hope this brings more and more attention to the subject and makes more people join the fight in stopping horrible this atrocity once and for all.
As someone who always has adored sharks, this hurt to watch. It's an even sadder to realize that this is real and does happen on a daily basis. Sharks may not have vocal cords and therefore cannot scream in pain, but I assure you that they would if they could. Finning devastates shark populations of all kinds and the process is about as inhumane as it gets. You might be afraid of a shark because it can bite, but a shark is afraid of you because you can cut it's fins off and cause it to slowly suffocate or painfully bleed out. Do your part and save the sharks 🦈

Yeah it is sad that it happens cause their fins are used for a soup called shark finned soup and it is even considered a delicacy which only makes other people want to try it. But on a brighter note did you know that there is a shark species(i think species or maybe just in general) that can bond with humans and when they see them they will go up to them and get pets from that person
Good news is it is starting to become less popular as governments are making it illegal. But the main player still doing it is China. Do your part and speak out against finning as people are still doing it illegaly. #savethesharks

I’m really glad pepole are starting to acknowledge sharks. They are really smart and sweet creatures. They don’t deserve this, and they don’t deserve to be fear mongered like they are. Most sharks need to move to breath. We need to stop abusing these beautiful animals. We need them to keep the ocean alive

I'm so glad someone's bringing this to light. People tend to belive sharks are murderers and deserve this without relising how important they are to our ecostystems...I've always been fasinated by sharks (probably the only fish dwelling creatures im almost as passionate about as wolves or crows) and it breaks my heart to know that people still do this without being able to do anything about it yet. (Im to young) :(

The only one that made me cry was little fish.
So if somebody hacks the fins off a shark they can say "eh, I needed food" and can argue why it was okay, but when somebody hacks the arms off of another person suddenly EVERYBODY agrees it's wrong under any circumstance?

I think my heart breaks whenever I see people who continue to do this even after seeing these animals. It's time for us to stop doing this and step forward. It's not too late.
It's sad, sharks been around for a really long time. They been around for about 450 million years, they survived many mas extinction events. The last thing I wanna have my future grandkids learn in school is how these lovely creatures where wiped off the face of eirth. There are places online that would take donations to help these lovely sharks and stop shark finning but apparently they dont get much love because not many people seem to care enough for sharks like they do with the Tiger's, Ringo's, and Elephants, etc.
if my children and grandchildren grow up knowing that these magnificent creatures, who can indeed feel and show emotion just as much as a dog, and still get loved by some people even after decades of constant bad stereotypes and rumours, were sent into extinction because of a bowl of soup. then that will be a world i dont want to be in.

Just saying that shark attacks are very rare. U don't need to be scared. If u see a shark in the ocean dont panic since sharks can feel ur fear. Just slowly get out of the shark's way and swim away slowly from the shark. If a shark ever bites u defend urself. Punch they eyes or pull the gills towards u but make sure not too hard to not kill the shark.

Sharks can't breathe without swimming (yes, they swim when they sleep too) so cutting of the fins and proventing the animal to swim is the worst!! Not to mention the fact that the animal is still alive while doing this. It breaks my heart to know people are doing this. If we did this to a human they would be in death sentence, but apparently it's ok to do that on animals!? Please don't be a supporter of this! It's horrible that things like this happen, but we can maybe make it a smaller amount that the animals have to experience this madness. I love all animals, big and smal! ♥️

I cried for a full three minutes after watching this. Like full on sobbing. I knew it was gonna be sad, but I thought it would be heartwarming. Never the less I'm glad i watched it, I learned things I didn't know before, and it's been a while since I had a good cry. I made a promise to myself that I'd never eat shark fin soup after i found out how unethical and inhumane the process is, and learning more about it makes me wonder why anyone would eat it. I hope more people see this, and some day we put an end to this. The sharks don't deserve this
