A bridge under construction in Bihar's Araria district, which was built for Rs 12 crore, was washed away after three of the pillars gave way, and it collapsed. This is the seventh bridge collapse in the state since 2023 and the second in 2024

FYI, China just inaugurated today (June 30) a 49,700m bridge connecting Shenzhen and zhongshan. This bridge has 4 lanes each way (ie total 8 lanes). Its has the world's tallest span above water. Total construction time: 7 years.

As an engineer I will say India has a very serious engineering problem! The bridge in Araria of Bihar has a column moved, rotated and tilted so that two sections of the deck fell into the river one after the other plus an abutment rotated and buried into the mud. The problem is the column over a mud bed in a river must be piled and have adequate embedded depth. The failed bridge appears to have no piled foundation or any foundation or the foundation is so unstable that the water can move the column!
There were 7 bridges failure since 2023. In 2021 one bridge in Jharkhand has one column vertically sunk to the water level and news blamed illegal mining.
