    Wow !! It looks like some locks could do real damage to a fender if one was not in focus of the moment :-)

      Yes, we have trashed about four fenders. We have 9 total plus 2 balls. So, we are going to order 4 new ones once we get to Florida. The worst locks were in the Erie Canal. Cheers, Sam

    Wow that was a bit of a rise, is there a charge to go through the Locks ? Thanks again for sharing !

      @WhatYachtToDo  5 років тому

      No charge. It is funded by taxpayers, like us! Only in Canada did we pay for lockage through. The Erie Canal waived its fees this year. Sam

    What channel do you speak to the tugs and lock masters on. Thanks

    • @WhatYachtToDo
      @WhatYachtToDo  5 років тому +1

      Usually it's channel 13 for the tow boat captains. Generally the locks are on 14 but they all answer on 16 and then will tell you which channel to switch over to.

    Another dumb question when you guys come through Canada were there a lot of shallow water and rocks and did you have any trouble if it was shallow or did your platter get you through it

    • @WhatYachtToDo
      @WhatYachtToDo  5 років тому

      Plotter got us through it. There was shallow water and it felt like we hit a couple of times. When we had our boat hauled out later, one of the props was dinged up.

    Great video. In real time how long did it take for the lock to fill?

    This time of the year are you having troubles finding fuel and how do you find a marinas are they on your platter

    • @WhatYachtToDo
      @WhatYachtToDo  5 років тому +1

      Hi Bobby, No problem finding Diesel. Waterway Guide posts current Diesel prices and availability. Yes, marinas are on the plotter, but we also depend on a number of other sources and guides. Word of mouth from other Loopers and Harbor Hosts help us chose wisely. Sam

    Hey Guys, whats the max height a loop boat can be was that Jefferson doing the loop too?

    • @WhatYachtToDo
      @WhatYachtToDo  5 років тому

      The max height for a boat on the Loop is that it has to pass under a fixed bridge south of Chicago that is charted at 19.5 feet. Yes, the 52 ft Jefferson could do the loop, but they were re-positioning it to Florida from St.Louis if my memory serves me correctly. Sam

      @@WhatYachtToDo We have several vessels that summer in St. Louis to get away from the hurricane season for insurance reasons, and then head back to the Gulf and Florida during the snowbird season. I have been told the insurance advantages of fleeing the hurricane zone can be substantial.

    Too bad there wasn't a place to stop so you could visit the Shiloh Battlefield and Indian Mounds.
