@@makemlaughtilithurts1718 Bruce Pearl helped get Illinois on probation also. He was an assistant at Iowa in those days & told the NCAA that Illinois tried to buy Deon Thomas. Bruce Pearl lied (that's what he does) but the school redshirt Deon Thomas. They needed him bc Illinois lost their whole frontline after this season
The legendary Keith Jackson....we had the best announcers ever in television at that time...this was a great time in history not just sports everything really when you compare it to NOW....miss those days alot
It’s such a shame that anytime Nick Anderson is brought up people only remember those missed free throws in the NBA finals. For me this will always be what comes to mind first when I think of Nick Anderson.
This home team is little talent tough smart control aggressive well non one playing vs athletic talent fast pace little problematic with outshoot and half court set that well coach aggressive team
The kids will never understand how great this 1989 Illinois team was. God bless Lou Henson. Class act.
They needed Laphanso Ellis
@@MDAA313 I’m from EsInt louis , he would have got them a chip but his scary but got illinois on probation talking about money he was offered
It’s rare to get the starting 5 homegrown in illinois an they take you all the way to the final 4
@@makemlaughtilithurts1718 he wanted to go there?

Definitely won't forget this game on WLS-TV Channel 7 in 1989.
Illini fan here. I give respect to this Indiana team.
Indiana has 5 NCAA national Title banners. Illinois has zero.
Two were won with an Illinois player on their team, Quinn Buckner and Isaiah Thomas.@@jasonh5547

RIP To Coach Henson And Coach Knight! Both Died In 2020 And 2023!
RIP Lou Henson And Bobby Knight!
Yes wish we could had seen ben Wilson wear that jersey
If he would had lived
On this broadcast Dickie V would contradict himself on every other Illinois possession.
Indiana never recovered from that half court shot
I had forgotten about the missed opportunities for Illinois to ice it at the line. Much more memorable the way it turned out.
Bobby Knight was one of the top 5 college basketball coaches of all time in my opinion and I'm a UNC fan
Marion High vs Chicago King
Rick Pitino apparently did not see this game To learn, you always need to guard the guy throwing the ball in
Thy didn't let my boy larry get off like he did in high school he made them better
They missed Larry Smith the next season. He redshirted bc his Mom or Grandma had a stroke during the NCAA tournament
Yeah Buddy
The "flying Illini" maybe the greatest team not to win the National Championship.
This game was the beginning of the end of the Indiana basketball program. It was all down hill after this. This shot broke them.
All down hill? They went to the Final Four in 92 and elite 8 in 83. This wasn't even a great Indiana team. The 92 or 93 team was much better.
Those refs were scared of Bibby Knight
