Dionne hit that SWING high soprano so effortlessly every single time. I love this era of gospel cause it was pure worship and good ol belly sangin
Yall forgetting everyone talks about how high and clear her soprano is 😭she used to sing cissys part when she did background with her group and yall KNOW how high those soprano parts were
Teyana is gonna slay!
Are yall really surprised by Dionne’s highs ? She was trained as a gospel soprano and in her earlier Bacharach recordings you hear how supple and high her voice literally lived in her highs with that girlish childlike tone
oh yeah they surprised because we know her today as smokie the bear
I love me some Dionne. America’s first black female pop star.
Are we still getting the Whitney Houston Act 3😭
Awesome. That singing talent was all in that siblings family of Cissy parents
Dionne Is a national treasure
Amazing ❤ Dionne was a vocal wonder.

One of my top five favorite female singers. Her look, songs, and voice were always unique and classy since day one of her career. Although her voice has been imitated by singers , it can never be duplicated.
Music icon the late Dusty Springfield, remarked that “ Dionne has a great intelligence to her voice.” I would also add to that assessment that her voice also has an elegance as well.
This era of Gospel I LOVE. This reminds me of Mattie Moss Clark singing with the Michigan State Choir. The song that hits me deep "Wait on Him" (I think is the name). Denise, Twinkie and Delores (I believe is her name) are eating on it.
Ms. Warwick has such a wide range of how she can sing.
If you like this sound then run out and buy Dionne's 1973 gospel album "The Magic of Believing". I own 63 DW albums but that one is my favorite. Dionne unleashes this soprano voice all over the place. Tracks "Jesus Will", "Somebody Bigger Than You and I", "His Grace" and "Steal Away" stand out. Some of these tracks are also on her double album "From Within", both were originally on the Scepter label. Go get it, thank me later.
Never seen Dionne at this age . . . I have always loved her, she had all the great #1 albums and hits with Bacharach/David before 'Retha (my favourite) Dianna & Gladys started their great carreers!
I never really knew that much about Dionne accept shes related to Whitney Houston. Other then that, I can tell from this video shes a wonderful singer. This was an interesting performance
Before Whitney, there was Dionne and Cissy.
Please take some time and search her musical career here on UA-cam. Her voice and style are unique and one of a kind. Enjoy!
This is a rare gem. I have never heard Dionne sing gospel before. Never thought I'd hear a version I liked aa much as Paul Robeaon's. Dionne and the choir sound fantastic.
She has a 60’s gospel album with her aunts and mom and they were sanging!!!
@@donovanrobinson1843 Very talented family!
In those early days she had such a clear soprano - smoking definitely lowered Miss Dionne’s voice. She almost sounded like her aunt Cissy.
More pleaseee🖤
Perfect solos. I have to know who the other performers were especially the other lady she was phenomenal and has such a unqiue look that I found magnetic to watch. I just know she has a great story 😂 do your thing internet
"Unique look" is a nice way to put it. I busted out laughing when she was doing her solo. 😭😭😭

Stevie Wonder
Prince
D'Angelo
Ray Charles

This kind of music makes me want to be a Christian
😂amazing performance 😂❤❤
Milik i have sort of a dumb question. would this count as Dionne singing Soprano or alto?
Secondly, how do you know if a singer is singing soprano, tenor, or alto?
Thanks in advance.
Technically, Dionne sings both soprano and alto parts in the song. The verse "I looked over Jordan and what did I see..." is on the alto line and has the same notes as the other female soloist at 1:30. The high note (Bb) Dionne sings at 1:15 is on the soprano vocal line, which is also sung by the sopranos on "let me ride" at 0:07, and again on "swing" at 2:00. When Dionne sings with the choir at 2:04, she is on the alto line singing with the other female soloist. Dionne ends the song on the alto line at 2:20. Outside of the high note, she sings primarily with the alto section.
You can determine what part one is singing by singing along or listening to where their voice falls in relation to the rest of the harmony.
@@BlackMusicArchiveI had no clue. i had thought she fell into 2nd sopranos
DIONNE BETTER (WHAT I CALL) BAPTIST HOWL!!!!!!
You wrong for that thumbnail.
I wanted to see if anyone else was going to say it lol
Why? She's known for her voice not her beauty. She looks how she looks.
@@darkfeather6857Right, as if she didn't look like that the whole video. It is what it is and it made me click, she looks real.
Correct me if I am wrong, but she looks like that in the video, correct? And this was before Dionne Warwick became THE Dionne Warwick, correct?
@@BlackMusicArchive , That`s exactly how she looks in the video yes and also her voice is not impressive at all in this video except when she did that high falsetto note .
