Its so strange to me, I started getting into EDM last year. I come from being a metalhead most of my life, their genres are so easy to tell apart from one another. EDM on the other hand, im trying to learn the different styles but a lot of differences seem so minuscule to me, on top of that one artist can make several different styles, whereas a metal band generally tends to stick to its style.
Thank you! I loved all of the comments. ❤️ Let me sum up the most frequent ones. 1. Drum n Bass is mostly known to be 165 - 175 bpm. (I couldn’t fit the bpm into the final mix and warped the 165 bpm version down to 135bpm (or up if you consider the speed doubling). 2. Hardstyle sounds quite a bit different. (I couldn’t achieve hardstyle quality even closely and I respect the genre a lot for that.) 3. Dubstep in the video is more like 2012 Riddim Dubstep. (I thought that time period is most remembered for dubstep by many.) 4. These are not *all* EDM genres. (There are millions of terms for subgenres. For the time of a short video, I just picked the ones most notable me, in the style *when* they were notable to me, up until 2020. All of them have made it into the mainstream ones and therefore could be seen as ‘Pop EDM’ by now. ) 5. It doesn’t include progressive house. (Progressive house was also notable to me and therefore on the list, but there exist two very different versions notable to me, so I left it out.) 6. Genres have no standards. (They absolutely don’t, but there are some elements which characterise music in a genre in a certain time period and I hope these elements you can find in the tracks.) 7. The tracks sound generic. (Yes, that’s the purpose for this video.) 8. The sound is not the best. (Yes! It would be fun to have 22 “popular edm” remixes done by experienced producer and merged together to achieve top quality.) 9. Genre definitions don’t matter. (They don’t. But they help DJs searching for tracks a lot.) Keep discussing, it’s interesting, viewers and me learn a lot!
