Such a great story. I really wish the NWHL and CWHL would really take off. Female hockey players, as well as the sport of hockey in general, really deserve it. And, yes, Manon is beautiful too!
In many regards I actually prefer watching women's hockey. It's a different sport with more focus on puck handling than avoiding checks. I love watching the women's Olympic games.
As a lifelong Tampa Bay resident and a longtime Lightning fan, I'm proud of the Lightning doing this. Rhéaume will always be a Bolt to me after that game against the Blues.
There was no barrier. That word is not accuate. Nothing prevents any woman from playing you just have to be good enough. ❤ Even being pretty good will get you a close look.
@@13e11even11 You do not know the definition of barrier and know even less about sports and why someone is chosen to play. By your definition, only the coach or the owner, a man could remove the barrier. She didn't have the power to break it.
@@13e11even11 Right and she didn't break any barrier. Men allowed her to play, because she was very good and it benefitted them as well. There was no national movement that women were banned from ever playing.
I remember how big a deal this was, it wasn't often you saw hockey players on Letterman. You still don't. She really took all the media in stride and didn't let expectations get ahead of her. While she definitely earned a tryout there's no doubt the then brand new Lightning enjoyed the attention it brought the team and they paraded her around everywhere. I forgot how tiny she looked. That said I'd still have signed her before I would Darren Pang. Sorry Panger, you're both cute but I give her the edge on looks and skills.
Manon is easy on the eyes now, as she was then. Haley got it right. she paved the way for female hockey players. If she had posed for playboy I would have bought one.
If he was signing someone based on pure skill she would never have had the opportunity to play in the nhl and women’s hockey would be pretty different now
I'd like to see a woman play in the NHL now. Hilary Knight, Kendall Coyne, Brianne Jenner, Marie Philip Poulin...any of them...I wish we could have seen Shannon Szabados in the NHL as well. Maybe one of these days..it was great Manon got her chance...but there are so many more women who can play at a high level now that it would be nice to see it happen. Even if it wasn't NHL...AHL would be good.
Those mentioned have legitimate skills. Not that MR didn't. But for today's game Coyne is my favorite blend of skills and personality required to warrant the opportunity.
Yeah And men should play on the the women’s Olympic team. Stupidest comment ever next you’re gonna wanna to have a woman quarterback in the NFL. Maybe in lingerie
Hard disagree. Both goals were on shots a regular goalie would have difficulty saving. She showed great poise and courage just stepping in and impressed many people. She is not embarrassed and most don’t think she should be.
I remember being a kid and hoping she would play more in the NHL
She is like a fine wine.
Can’t believe it’s been 27 years already.
She was so cute! Still is.
Total MILF!
Better looking now!!
Simply a classy Canadian Legend, and an inspiration for girls and women worldwide.
I have her card and it is signed from when I played against her team as a kid

An awesome lady ❤️
Pure Beauty and Pure Class.
She is soooo beautiful...I love the interview starting at 2:19...
Probably the most amazing story since 1981.
Total class act!
I still have the newspaper article from then, she was a hottie.
She has a memory that likely no other woman will ever have.
I'm glad this happened for her.
She handled it like a pro.
She broke a barrier. She is a hero. She got it done. No just for girls, but for everyone.

@@pep590 by being the first that means there was a barrier, and by saying you just have to be god enough ignores reality.

I want to know how many players asked her out?
None, they all automatically assumed she was a lesbian.
@@jonathanturbide2232 I would have I got a thing for girls with accents she is one french Canadian beauty
Jonathan Turbide Chris Belanger was tapping that when they played together for the New Jersey Rock N Rollers in the RHI....
I saw her once in Knoxville. She started for our Cherokees.
She is so attractive
Why is there zero footage off her 1993 exhibition game against the Bruins on UA-cam???
I had her 1994-1995 classic card once upon a time.
Respect to her for having the “balls” to go through with it.
"we had nothing to lose!" LMFAO

🔥
Have many of her rookie cards, nice girl.
She was only 5"6" so that was amazing.
Cool chick, good commentator too can’t wait to see her in the all star game🤙

They offered her but she declined
She was supposed to sign Autographs for Richmond Roller Hockeys Award Night....she didn't show up...but Bobby Holik did...
You guys are killing the comment section but this is crazy marketing moves
I got her hockey card in upper deck
Tabernacle she is a looker haha
Why are we mentioning what she looks like?
Keep an eye on her son Dylan St. Cyr
It kinda irritates me that the only reason Phil Esposito signed her for publicity and not pure skill.

She played in the NHL.... That is all
They're "shooting at your head" cuz you're so damn short for a goalie. She was 5'6 most of those shots would probably hit any other goalie's chest
As a female I find her so cute 🥰
Anyone here after the chiclets interview
Smoking hot then, still is
cant help but noticing how her english is now and how it was at that time

Nick Fotiu gave her a chance to play in the minors.
In 2022 they are making it mandatory that each NHL team has one female player on it and must start at least 40 games
Thats the stupidest sh*t I've ever heard.
