Between your channel and Acre Homestead, I've been on a binge watching homestead/meal prep videos, I love this kind of content, it's wholesome, inspiring, relaxing. I hope someday to have a home and big garden of my own. I'm Polish, so making your own food from scratch is a normal, cultural thing here. And it's sometimes quite amusing to me to see Americans so amazed that you can make soup or dinner rolls at home, haha. Anyway, great work!
Thanks for watching! Yes, I'm sure those cultural differences add some humor to the videos :) What we think is awesome may be an everyday thing in Poland! Too funny!
I watch your videos when my anxiety is laying on me thick. I lost my home to a fire and trying to rebuild slowly. I can't wait to have my home and garden back.
I love seeing your children helping with the prep, and eating all the vegies. They will have a very healthy constitution. This is the way we are supposed to eat. Everything freshly harvested, no chemicals...
Tremendous? It is what mothers used to do before feminists kicked mom out of the kitchen. Humanity got along well without nutritionists for thousands of years. Then fast food took over and America became obese and diabetic.
You bring so much joy to me and this warms up my soul. It reminds me of my amazing childhood from a village in Romania. We had land with everything that you have, pig, chickens, we relied 99/% on that organic food the entire year. And we had a pantry in the ground. My parents still have all of this and it s pure health. They are very healthy thanks to the food they grow. My mother sends me potatoes and organic products from the garden in a different country, where I live now. Your videos & your family are lovely, peaceful. You are growing some amazing children. I wish you all the health in the world, joy, prosperity and peace.
I'm at a stressful point in my life right now (I'm a teacher and I'm working on my Masters degree) and I just wanted to say how incredibly RELAXING it is to watch your videos! I try to watch one every morning before going to work! This is the first cooking video of yours I've seen and I loved it! How to cook healthy meals, from garden to table -- it's so inspiring! You are what I'd love to be one day! Please do more of them! I still have 3 months left in the school year! 😆
So so glad you an find a bit of peace watching out videos, Elsa. Makes us feel good inside hearing this. Good luck with your educational goals, and your homestead goals as well!!
Wow, you guys really had your priorities right when you created that kitchen: the sink, the 2 stoves, the huge countertops, I am drooling. I just love watching someone else cook like we do--using the sprouting onions, using winter squash every which way you can, running out to the garden in the middle of winter for cilantro and kale. I actually got a warm hat with a head lamp for pre-dinner harvesting in the dark months.
Thanks so much! 😊 Yes, we knew what we needed, and went for it! We feel very blessed to be able to have this now. Many many years of tiny kitchens and never enough counter space :) Now cooking and preserving can be a bit more enjoyable :) Thanks for watching!
These meals look amazing!! Your home is stunningly beautiful and so well designed to accommodate your homesteading and self sufficiency journey. I would love to see a video where you discuss your home design decisions that support your efforts homesteading, like your recent video showing the stacked buckets and appliances in the pantry, your cold room pantry and the propane line on the patio. We bought our property a few years ago and it had a new construction home on it, smaller than the one we sold in the city. Over the past few years of raising animals, growing gardens, preserving and storing food, cooking all of our meals and homeschooling, we have realized some our home’s shortcomings. We are dreaming of buying a larger property and building our home. We would love any input you could provide from your designing, building and implementation experience. Your sweet family is doing such wonderful things!
Thankful for our food storage. I and we have been eating at home gardening is no longer in the picture. But its ok. Lets hope the world will soon be back to normal.
As a 40-year old city-dweller (I used to experience some country living when I was really young, but it's all but forgotten), these videos are extremely fascinating to me. As well as comforting, relaxing and beautiful to boot! We (I?) have become so removed from nature and natural things & everything that goes with them. Thank you for providing a candid view to self-sufficiency - I really enjoy the videos! All the best, from Finland!
I love your family OMG 💕 kids having household chores at their age making them responsible, y'all basically living my dream having your own house and have a farm ❤️ im watching every night and makes me sleep. Godbless ❤️
Nothing will ever delight me more than children being wildly impressed by how long squash keeps. Even when we were living in the city together, I'd keep pumpkins and squash around the house in winter cause they keep so well, and my brother would be stunned when I'd grab one off the table to cut up and eat.
You certainly have a lucky family to have you in their lives, you are such a hard working young lady; and very beautiful as well. What a great influence on your children...
I harvest this same squash in october, we ate all the way to april. I washed them in water with a little bleach to kill any bugs; kept the steam like 1 1/2 inches long. The trick its to harvest when the steam is complete dry.
Thank you, that means a lot. We try hard to make the content interesting, and the filming enough to keep your attention. Looks like it worked with at least one of you :)
I just wanted to say that this is one of my favorite videos of yours!! I love how simple you keep it and how you incorporate all the "grocery" treasures! Thank you. Please make more of these!
I'm a new follower and love your channel! I also love the idea of blending beans: I have some children who are skeptical of beans! Thank you! Enjoy your calm demeanor, beautiful home and gardens! God bless!
Hello Becky. I found your channel a month ago and I am in love with it. After spending several years growing with success a variety of vegetables in our city backyard, we are ready to leave the city. Conscientious objections to mandates led to my job as a teacher coming to an end halfway to my career. The politics of a big city promote a lifestyle contrary to our beliefs. Threats about supply chains made me realize how dependent we have grown to a fragile system. We lose so much of what is important by remaining in a city. We have decided to sell our house and buy somewhere in the country. I am ready and excited to become a farmer and grow exactly what you do. Your channel is such a huge inspiration and I will be drawing from it in the coming years to switch our lifestyle to one that has self-sufficiency, self-reliance and independence. Thank you for all of your work. God bless you and your family. Sincerely, Eric
(From Jon's wife): These meals look so tasty! I'm going to make these, but I will be veganizing them! Thank you for this video. You and your family show a beautiful way to live a more self-sustaining life.
(From Jon's wife): This afternoon, I made the "White Chicken Chili" substituting the white beans with pinto beans cooked from scratch, and young jackfruit for the shredded chicken. I also ended up adding crushed tomatoes. Man, it was delicious! Thank you for the inspiration!
I use a Lodge Dutch oven and have Wagner cast iron skillets from 1940's. We have 15 bean hamhoc & potato soup recipes passed down from the 40's during rationing and meal tickets. Other recipes are beef stews and hamburger vegetable soups. My other favorite is homemade breads like ciabattas and honey wheat. The same poolish or biga dough can also be used for pizza or focaccia.
i am sure someone has already given this suggestion/ idea but just in case they haven’t…. if you put a damp washcloth or kitchen towel under your cutting board it won’t move around on you. just thought that might be helpful for you🙂
Loved seeing you pick, chop, fry and eat what your garden provides! Im living in norway-but im from alaska/USA - ive been dreaming of my own gardens and producing my own foods. My life is so so busy with full time job and 7 children that i cant seem to make it reality but hopefully one day! I dont think my kids would eat those dinners though, their not used to the good healthy dinners where they can see the greens😢 its sad but its the truth 😢
I am new to your channel and I can not believe how lovely it is. Your dedication and hard work to your homestead and family is amazing. I love your pantry wish I had a big one like that. You make everything look effortless. I am trying to grow vegetables for the first time in suburbia and have little ground so tubs and plastic containers will have to do and living in a country that is so much colder than where I come from is challenging. I look forward to catch up on your earlier videos. Have a lovely day.
You all work so hard & it looks like your family really appreciate the really healthy foods that you prepare for them, I love the way you all tuck into the same meals, not like here (England) where many of the mums have to create lots of separate dishes because their children are such fussy eaters or will only eat take-away food. I grew up with a mum who made bread, cakes ,homemade jam & knitted most of our woolies. I have the same mindset as her too luckily. keep up the good work, you & your family are so inspiring to us all.
Your channel feeds my soul! I love seeing people thrive in a way that we were always meant to. And as if it wasn’t enough work to cook/prepare all this food - Albeit fun - the production of these videos must be a lot of work too. Thanks! 😁
Yes yes, you have a good understanding of the work involved in this. Of course there are long days, but somehow when one thing gets to be too tedious, there's always something else to do. Glad you enjoy the videos!!
When you bake butternut squash leave the seeds in! They release oils while baking and make it so much tastier. Not to mention they are easier to scoop out afterwards.
So inspiring! I'm really enjoying seeing your family on this journey! Just a tip: It makes me nervous when you chop your veggies! You gotta keep your knives really sharp and use a "pinch-grip" for better control while tucking your fingers in to make a "wall" so your knife will never cut your fingers. You use your pointer and thumb to grasp the blade right before the handle, this is the classical grip for a chef and it makes a big difference when you are prepping large quantities of food. When you only hold the handle your knife is more likely to slip or turn.
i make "zacusca" for winter , a specific romanian bread spread i have a 90 liter cast iron cauldron and get around 50 jar of 80 ml each that lasts me for a year for a family of 4 it takes 20 kg of eggplants + 20 kg of bell peppers + 10 kg of onion + 5 liter of oil 3 persons working for 1 week-end
I have been watching and contemplating on the life style you have. It is amazing and rewarding to appreciate what you have been doing. Micronutrients deficiency is what we all face in today’s life. I am delighted with the opportunity you have with your lovely family. Still we have to deal with the lose of micronutrients. Most of Chinese back in 90s were skinny even when they ate much rice but they didn’t lack micronutrients. On the other side of the earth, we see Americans have been struggling. As long as there is nice and clean septic system, (of course, that is acceptable in this culture.) we will not have a inclosed recycling system to reuse what we already have. Basically, our land would become more barren under the conditions of petroleum dominated crops. One thing which I noticed that self reliance life does take much of our time, but that is worthy. There are many ways we may avoid poisonous food, unhealthy life style, which includes false ideas that the culture tries to infuse into our kids. The best way to cook beef with Bokchai is to use a wok. Use oil to deep fry the beef after coating the meat with some liquid corn starch. Cook veggies with it afterwards. I am sure yours tastes great as well!
I just found your family’s videos last week, and my sons and I have watched most of them. I wanted to leave a note letting you know how much we enjoy them, and I’m looking forward to learning sourdough from you soon. Blessings to your family!
Hi guys, I've been watching your uploads for about a year and a half now. I've enjoyed watching the homesteads progression that you and your family have created. Thanks for all the great recipes and how-to's. I look forward to seeing what you guys do this spring.
This is awesome! I love gardening and homesteading but I feel like I let too much go to waste because I just don't know how to incorporate it all or I just get stuck in my usual grocery shopping routine and then I don't use the frozen stuff or canned stuff as I should. I need more videos like this to inspire me.
I make white chicken chili using: canned chicken, canned navy beans, canned chicken stock, canned corn, and canned salsa verde! There might be a few more things in there but pretty much the fastest meal ever! Love to see your recipes today.
I made your chicken chili and my husband said its the best chili he has ever eaten. I threw in a few tomatoes that were ripening on my counter & diced canned chilis since my jalapenos aren't finished fermenting. Roasting a chicken & using dried beans takes longer but is definitely worth the extra effort Thanks for the inspiration to make this!
I love your life style, and how much effort you put into taking care of your family. Whenever I get a chance to go the farmers market I purchase several cilantro bunches. I wash, cut into small pieces and the freeze or dehydrate.
"Reality" tv, right?!? There is a wonderful peace around the simple, homesteading life, but there are definitely stressful moments for sure. You just get the good parts :) Thanks for watching 👍
The bean liquid can be put in you compost pile for your garden. You should also rinse the rice as it can be contaminated with I think cyanide. It's nice to see someone actually use up everything in their pantry. It all looks good.
There are a few channels on here I watch, Acre Homestead, Simple living Alaska, Good Simple Living and Shaun James, however I’ve only just subscribed to yours and I love it. I really want to live like this myself and I will. Keep going you are so inspiring me🙂
I am so motivated by your videos! I love how your kids help out and enjoy the meals you make. I currently live in an hoa neighborhood that i love but wow..this is the dream! Thank you!
You have got to try "African blue basil" It is one of the two best pollinator attractors on the planet. It's a sterol hybrid of two other basil plants. You can easily start it from a cutting. I've seen 20 to 30 different species of pollinators on it. Not just honey bees. I sometime just sit and watch them all. enjoy.
I love that you are showing how to practically use the ingredients in your pantry along with the recipe ❤️. So glad I stumbled upon your page. New subscriber here.
Amazing video. The narration and preparation speed is perfect and calming. You have a very nice and wholesome way of showing us what you are doing. Thank you a lot for sharing. This is very inspirational. Thank you. Greetings from Europe
On the butternut squash seeds are low so with a fine medal mesh strainer pick out all seed's put in strainer and wash seed's well then with a cloth dry bottom of strainer and place seed's on a drying paper like wax let dry well two to three months so there dry for storage this will make it so seeds don't mold and do tomatoes and ect. Don't buy seeds
Wow just found your channel your family , home, garden and lifestyle are beautiful . I love seeing a big beautiful designer looking kitchen actually getting used and not just staged for Instagram lol great job mama!
New Subscriber here! I can't believe I haven't seen your channel before! Love how your son handles the knife like a pro! You can tell you taught him well! Now, don't mind me why I go binge watch your channel!
I know lids are in a bit of short supply but with chicken stock you could easily reduce them and store in 8oz jam jars. They would easily be diluted and could save a lot of space.
I was watching your video in Japan. Actually wanted to order takeout but during the video, I went straight to the kitchen to cook dinner. 🤣thank you for the inspiration
So definitely would love to have you guys come visit my wife daughter and I in Costa Rica to help us with our garden! Would be such a lifesaver, and would love to learn how to do what y’all do!! So amazing
This is what everyone is supposed to live. Stay happy.
Your husbund and kids are blessed with such a wife and mother. May God give you health.

Hello Becky.
I found your channel a month ago and I am in love with it.
After spending several years growing with success a variety of vegetables in our city backyard, we are ready to leave the city.
Conscientious objections to mandates led to my job as a teacher coming to an end halfway to my career.

God gives us abundance to the overflow so remember to give back to your community as well awesome video
All 3 dishes look soooo delicious and as always it is soooo inspiring to see all the wonderful results of such hard work througout the year. 🤩
Thank you so much 😊
Oh sweet little baby girl, you can NEVER have too much squash!! 😄❤ delicious recipes and as always my favorite family!😊
You made it look all so simple, I really like those recipes. Now I know what to do with butter squash.
I love your life style, and how much effort you put into taking care of your family.
Whenever I get a chance to go the farmers market I purchase several cilantro bunches. I wash, cut into small pieces and the freeze or dehydrate.
Love your videos. You make it look so easy, you're like the calmest person I've ever seen. 💗
"Reality" tv, right?!? There is a wonderful peace around the simple, homesteading life, but there are definitely stressful moments for sure. You just get the good parts :) Thanks for watching 👍
I absolutely love your recipes and the calmness of your videos even when you were preserving it was calming. ❤
The bean liquid can be put in you compost pile for your garden. You should also rinse the rice as it can be contaminated with I think cyanide. It's nice to see someone actually use up everything in their pantry. It all looks good.
Very flavorful and unique! Great job! 👍🏼
There should be more likes for this video we need more of this type! So helpfull
There are a few channels on here I watch, Acre Homestead, Simple living Alaska, Good Simple Living and Shaun James, however I’ve only just subscribed to yours and I love it. I really want to live like this myself and I will. Keep going you are so inspiring me🙂
You have a wonderful lineup! Glad we made the list too :)
I sometime just sit and watch them all. enjoy.
Love this!! We have a LONG winter in Idaho where we live and I NEED easy cook-from-pantry meals for the Winter season ❄️❄️❄️❄️
For your last recipe, try velveting the meat. Total lifechanger

I love apple butter too! My favorite way to eat it is to top my oatmeal with it, or plain yogurt, or ice cream…you get the idea.♥️👍🙏🇺🇸🤓
What a life💖 The health and well-being benefits are up there 🙌
On the butternut squash seeds are low so with a fine medal mesh strainer pick out all seed's put in strainer and wash seed's well then with a cloth dry bottom of strainer and place seed's on a drying paper like wax let dry well two to three months so there dry for storage this will make it so seeds don't mold and do tomatoes and ect. Don't buy seeds
love the way you prepare the meals for your family.
Thank you 😊
I just love you videos! It’s just fab to know how to use these! Growing is one thing but creatively cooking is another

So nice of you
I know lids are in a bit of short supply but with chicken stock you could easily reduce them and store in 8oz jam jars. They would easily be diluted and could save a lot of space.
Very true. We have started seeing lids back on store shelves as of recent. But that concentrated stock idea is a really good one!!!
@@TheSeasonalHomestead the downside is the energy to concentrate it if you only ever use it as a fully dilute source.
I cook my squash seeds like pumpkins seeds, such a yummy snack!!!
I was watching your video in Japan. Actually wanted to order takeout but during the video, I went straight to the kitchen to cook dinner. 🤣thank you for the inspiration
Awesome! We are so happy. And the dinner you cooked was probably super delicious too!!

Well, until we visit Costa Rica, keep watching the channel. I'm sure you'll find some helpful tips :)
