Expanding on this: as an aspiring music producer, i can tell you that autotune, or some degree of pitch correction, is used in almost every pop song nowadays, strictly because the technology to make things perfect is available to us and as a result has turned us into perfectionists. Even if it sounds decent, if there's an opportunity to make it sound better, we'll take it.

I would also like to mention that talent is a precursor to success. Talented individuals can recognized and build themselves up to the level of fame/success they're in. There have been many talented female rappers and pop artistes before Minaj but few have become successful. To have a career going strong for over 3 years, Minaj is inarguably one of the most talented people in the industry. And great music is subjective. Rappers don't play a guitar.

She never autotunes her raps. The singing, yes. She started off as a female rapper (and a pretty good one) and decided to venture into pop-rap upon the success of Super Bass. And nearly every pop artiste today uses autotune anyways so it doesn't matter. And you do need a decent amount of vocals before autotune can even be used.

I agree. I don't think that talent is determined by the number of albums an artiste releases. However, it is undeniable that Nicki Minaj is one of the most talented female rappers of all time. And no, silly teenagers didn't make up this claim. Renowned artistes, among them Ne-Yo, Jay-Z, Christina Aguilera etc. have all acknowledged this fact. Plus, Minaj was nominated for 3 Grammys in her breakthrough year and Grammy nominations are decided based on raw talent, not fame and success.

If you can, you should do a tutorial on how you do your official instrumentals, cause all the other ones just don't work for me. You don't have to if you can't, but if you can I would love it if you could. I'd bet it takes of lot of time to do (having to mix around, removing stuff from channels etc.)

Please don't compare Nicki Minaj with bands. Do you see lead vocalists from bands (e.g. Adam Levine) making their own music? For most pop artistes out there, including Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga etc., music production is mostly handled by the producers. The artistes are then given samples of many different kinds of sounds and they will choose the ones they like. They then sit down with a panel of people to write lyrics, create hooks etc. It's the same for every artiste.
