My brother brought home his first 4 albums...i was 12 ...Thin Lizzy Live and Dangerous.. UFO Strangers in the Night..Yesterday and Today...ACDC Powerage.. Feel in live with them..Saw them in Brooklyn at L'Amours..off of Black Tiger..played for 2 hrs...they were awesome
I didn’t know them until I saw them supporting AC/DC on the ‘For Those About to Rock’ tour at Wembley Arena in 1982. They were so good, I went out next day to get, I think, Black Tiger and then Earthshaker shortly after. Great band as a whole, but Meniketti is such a special vocalist and guitarist - one of the best with that combination of talents.
I could have written your comment word for word except that I saw this tour at the NEC ! Based on the number of Y&T albums in my collection they are my favourite US band 🇬🇧
Thanks for covering Y&T's great Earthshaker album. Such a great band, musicianship everything. But they never hit the top level. RIP to every in the band except Dave. Great Sunday fun video.
Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this all the way through for the first time in a couple of decades. 1. Dirty Girl -- Yes I know, but it’s a great groove. 2. I Believe in You 3. Let me Go 4. Knock You Out 5. Young and Tough 6. Rescue Me 7. Hungry for Rock 8. Hurricane 9. Shake it Loose 10. Squeeze
First time listening to: Y&T - Earthshaker 1. Knock you out 2. Hurricane 3. Squeeze 4. Rescue me 5. Hungry for rock 6. I believe in you 7. Let me go 8. Young and tough 9. Dirty girl 10. Shake it loose I doubt I'll ever revisit this album but it'll be fun seeing your take on it.
Same here, not a 'classic album' in any way (for me anyway). Some of these tunes strike me as "early 80's juvenile", like "Hungry For Rock" & "Dirty Girl". "Rescue Me" is a pretty good tune (check out the acoustic version on Acoustic Classix, Vol. 1), as well as "Let Me Go" & "Knock You Out". "I Believe In You" might be the best track here even though it's a ballad. These are the tunes with more dynamics, they're not just out-and-out 'melodic hard rock' ditties. They tend to 'hide' a few of these tracks within each of their albums ("Pleasure In My Heart", "Beautiful Dreamer", "My Heart Plays Too", "I'm Lost", "Stargazer", "Lonely Side Of Town", "Sentimental Fool", "Winds Of Change", "Breakout Tonight", "Summertime Girls", "Any Time At All", "Ten Lovers"). Their heaviest tune that works for me is probably "Fly Away" off Musically Incorrect (funky - nice wah work too). Generally speaking pretty good vocals but they do falter at times on some of their 'harder' numbers when they push too much - keeping in mind that I'm not a big metal fan... Overall this album reminds me of 80's solo Sammy Hagar (at other times/on other albums to me they sometimes come across as a 'Thin Lizzy lite' with dual guitars). Y&T definitely has better albums - Contagious, Down For The Count, Acoustic Classix, Vol. 1 & especially Endangered Species (for me their best). They're one of those bands that make me glad I buy (download) my music a la carte. Scraping their discography I come up with about 35 good songs across some 12 studio albums (don't really have much live by them & they also have a few collections/best of's, never listened to their demo set Unearthed), so about 3 songs per...
@@wolf1977 I disagree hard all the albums you named are the worst for me (except contagious is decent), but Meanstreak and this one and black tiger are the Y&T highlights for me.
@@alexsuperpower1 Hey that's what makes the planet go 'round!👍 As a general comment on this series, I think one of the participants mentioned recently the lack of 'classic' (AOR) albums to discuss in this series. I actually think there are quite a few out there, even just in the AOR vein & even if just limiting that to the lesser-known bands/albums of the 70's/80's (I know this one isn't strictly one of their AOR-oriented shows). I'd put forward (just as some examples): Airborne, Airrace, Alaska, Arc Angel, Balance, Cannata, Distance, Grand Prix, Harlequin, I-Ten, King Of Hearts, Michael Stanley Band, Night, Ozz, Prism (CAN), Roadmaster, Sherbs, Sheriff, Shooting Star, Signal, Stan Meissner, Streets, Swanee, Tangier, Target, Terraplane, Toronto, Trillion, Windfall, The Works, Wrabit, Ya Ya... ...and what constitutes a "classic album"? Obviously it's all down to personal interpretation & what we like in music since music is ultimately a personal experience but I think there are some general "tests" that many tend to use in order to label their favorites as "classic": 1) The best album(s) of a band that you like (regardless of age or whether anyone else likes them or calls them classics) 2) Albums that "everyone" (or maybe 90% of a random panel of 100 rock fans locked in a room would agree is 'classic' when asked) agrees to. You know those albums - your Sgt Pepper, Pet Sounds, Quadrophenia, Led Zep IV, etc. Not much to disagree over... 3) Gotta have some age to it, ie withstanding the "test of time" criteria. So you could have lots of albums that might fall into category 1 above but just aren't old enough. How old? Maybe at least 15-20 years...? This one's very much a sliding scale where albums "age into" this category as time goes by... 4) Bands/albums being reevaluated over time. Maybe no one thought they were (future) classics at the time, or even 15-20 years after release, but they do now. I think Pete has tackled this topic before (with Martin?) 5) Extraordinary skill/musicianship - you may not even necessarily like the music that much but you appreciate what went into creating it. For me personally that's a lot of 'straight' jazz (not a big fan but I can appreciate the talent involved)
@@wolf1977 Great comment very extensive. I want to add the band ''Axe'' one of my personal favorites is ''Offering'' they even did a pretty cool Montrose cover. And I didn't mean to come off as a jerk with my comment so my apologies. You are right everyone has different opinions and that makes it fun :)
@@alexsuperpower1 Thx!...The Montrose cover = "I Got The Fire" (good tune). I have a few of their albums: their s/t debut, Living On The Edge & The Crown, plus the collection Twenty Years From Home 1977-1997. Although I have them filed under "Rock" not AOR (as in 'melodic hard rock' - it's a fine line). I'll have to check out Offering again - from what I recall there's a version that added on some bonus live tracks. The tune I think I remember besides that Montrose song is "Jennifer"...? I think they've got at least 4 other studio records & some live albums, as well as several compilations. The tracks "Sunshine Again", "Torturous Game" & "Foolish Deception" from The Crown (2000) are excellent. Overall a band with some good guitar work & melodic songs plus good vocals...
Great show I love Y&T very underrated band! One of my favorites. Menikketi has such a great voice and is an excellent player too. My fav album is Meanstreak, with Earthshaker being a close 2nd. I'm only 27 years old but both me and my mom are a huge fan I'm wearing my Y&T t-shirt today! My fav tracks: I believe in You, Rescue me, Hurricane
Y&T quite popular in Sweden. One of this key albums early 80s that got me in to metal. Like Riot - Fire Down Under, Killer - Wall of Sound, Tygers - Spellbound, Twisted Sister - Under te Blade etc.
I absolutely love Y&T and own about everything they have put out. It is a crime that these guys were not bigger than other bands in their genre. Dave is a beast on guitar and his vocals are killer.
10 young and Tough 9 Knock You Out 8 Shake It Loose 7 Hungry For Rock 6 Hurricane 5 Dirty Girl 4 Let Me Go 3 Squeeze 2 Rescue Me 1 I Believe In You This is probably my 3rd favorite album of theirs as I put Black Tiger and Mean Streak ahead of this one, but all 3 are absolutely incredible.
First heard Y&T at the Reading Festival 1982 on the Sunday night as special Guests to MSG. (Hello Reading...Surprise Surprise) If you were there you know where that comes from!!! Next time was as support for AC/DC on the For Those About To Rock Tour in October 1982 at the Glasgow Apollo . I went both nights. Seen them around 30 years later in the ABC Glasgow. Outstanding on every occasion.
I saw Y&T open for Boston in 1977 (when they were still Yesterday and Today) Went out and bought their debut album, of which the opening track was called "Earthshaker" They were quite the power group. I lost track of them until a friend showed me Black Tiger. Also good. I think they got lost in the wave of hard rock bands that were prevalent in that era. Sadly all the band members have passed except for Dave Meniketti who still tours.
I have Y & T's Earthquake The A&M Years 1981-1985 that has 7 albums on 4 CDs: It has Earthshaker, Black Tiger, Mean Streak, In Rock We Trust, Open Fire, Down for the Count and Live on the Friday Rock Show. It is produced pretty good. I remember this album: Radio stations in the Bay Area was playing Rescue Me from this album. Fantastic song! That song was the reason I got multi-album CD Set, as mentioned above. Lots of great music on these albums. You owe yourself a listen.
Yes I have that set and I see other people mentioning this in the comments. Its a great set covering the classic Y & T. Great one to pick up if people can.
Fantastic episode lads !! ❤ "Eartshaker" was one of the first vinyl records I bought back in the day. In may '82 Y&T played at probably the oldest still running festival : Pinkpop. The venue of the festival back then was in a park in Geleen, the Netherlands. Interesting fact... I live there now. I often walk in that park where there is a cycling/ice skate track now (!). Great memories of bands that played there in the early 80s: MSG, Gary Moore, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dio. Even Rush did in '79 I believe. You can find some footage of that Y&T Pinkpop show on UA-cam, even a full show radio audio recording ! For me this will always be a classic 10 out of 10 album. And yes....they don't make them like this anymore. Cheers from Geleen, The Netherlands.
Earthshaker even after 40 plus years is still one of my top 10 favorite albums. Just listened to it yesterday. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area I was able to see them live at least 40 times so far. They always brought it live. Just listening to Dave Meniketti play that guitar live is always an experience. This album is so strong very hard for me to rank them, since I love all the songs. 1. I believe in you 2. Hurricane 3 Rescue Me 4. Squeeze 5. Hungry for rock 6. Knock you out 7. Dirty girl 8. Shake it loose 9. Young & Tough 10. Let me go
This is one of the great albums of my musical upbringing. I came across it through the song 'Rescue Me' on Alan Robson's 'Hot 'n' heavy' radio show on Metro Radio in Newcastle. 'Rescue Me' was an absolute revelation, seismic in the same way that Queensryche's 'Queen of the Reich' was!
Great episode. Not my fave from the band . Meanstreak and Contagious ate two of my preferences. But a great album altogether. My ranking Rescue me, I believe in you, Let me go, Dirty girl, Hurricane, Knock you out, Hungry for rock, Young and tough, Squeeze, Shake it loose. The soloing is top class. A solid classic rock album.
Bought the first Yesterday And Today album when it came out, along with the follow up. Imagine my delight when I found this album in the racks (with the abbreviated moniker). A great album to be sure but the first two will forever be my favorites.
Favorite songs on the album are Dirty Girl, Rescue Me, Hurricane, Let Me Go, Knock You Out & I Believe In You. Haven't thought about ranking the songs on the album.
Great show gentlemen. I will put Earthshaker against any hard rock/metal album of this time period. On "I believe in you" that VH Cathedrals foot pedal Dave is utilizing is the little things that make him one of the most underrated players of our time. His solo"s are insane & as you stated how was that song not a huge hit. Rescue Me is friggin incredible...their pacing and transitions included with their backing vocals rank up there with the best. The combination of Leonard and Phil's percussion perfectly complement tasteful chops/solo's and ass kicking riffs. Pete your analysis of Dave being both a frontman and axeman are so perfect. I love this band. Hurricane is a beast of a song, as is Dirty Girl, Hungry for Rock, shit the entire album is near perfection.
Another great show! I always literally Laugh Out Loud watching The UK Connection! this was so tough, Earthshaker is my #2 Y&T album close behind Mean Streak. And i absolutely LOVE every song on this rekkid! well, here goes... 10. Young And Tough 9. Hungry For Rock 8. Shake It Loose 7. Let Me Go 6. Squeeze 5. Dirty Girl 4. Rescue Me 3. Hurricane 2. Knock You Out 1. I Believe In You
1. I Believe In You 2. Hungry For Rock 3. Dirty Girl 4. Hurricane 5. Rescue Me 6. Squeeze 7. Young & Tough 8. Knock You out 9. Let Me Out 10. Shake It Loose
Two of your top 5 would be in my top tier too (with "I Believe In You" as both of our #1's) but I really don't like "Hungry For Rock" & "Dirty Girl". "Hurricane" is just OK for me. The rest would be in a tie for 3rd (or 4th) on my list
A tremendous episode as usual from the trio. There was some tremendous points made by all 3️⃣. I’m definitely a minority/ but I’ll say it. DAVE over YNGWIE. But that’s just my opinion. 🍻 laughs 😂/ music 🎶 200. NJ. USA. HOF. Thx trio 👍💯
Since, I try to be a top notch student, I know the 2 CDs real well ( own them) but have zero knowledge on Romeos DAUGHTER/8️⃣8️⃣ / so I will nickel & dime these 3 selections over the next two weeks. Thanks again. Simon/ Steven / PETE 👍💯
I'm really surprised Simon doesn't own at least Mean streak from y&T! He usually has a great taste. Thank you steven for bringing Y&T forward the band deserves more recognition!
Yes I agree. Before I started following UA-cam music channels I had never even heard of Y & T. I now own the a A & M Years 1981-1985 set and I thoroughly enjoy these albums.
Hadn't listened to this album for a Long long time. Found ranking the songs difficult as apart from one or two they are much of a much - not in a bad way. Going early as the show clashes with the live Vuelta (Tour of Spain). Anyhow: 1. Hungry for Rock - dated but who cares a rocking good tune. 2. I believe in you - another bloody ballad - but a better effort than most. 3. Squeeze - guitar with speed 4. Hurricane - good but not as Uriah Heep's latest same named track 5. Young and tough 6. Dirty Girl - lyrics to get you cancelled now! 7.Let Me Go - classic riffing 8. Rescue me 9.Knock you out 10.Shake it loose Easy listening rock n roll following a well worn path, but none the less enjoyable for that.
Great show, I agree Dave is an underrated player. I had the privilege to see them live once in a bar. The beverage for tonight was from Black Swan Brewing Company Stratford. It's called Peaches & Dreams, juicy IPA with peaches & chamomile. It sits at a 5.3% and I will add quite a delightful treat. I know my list will be a little controversial as you will soon see. I will add that I like all the songs on the album, obviously some more than others. I did have to listen to this album 5-6 times to form this list. It was not a struggle to listen to it that many times in 4-5 days. 10) Squeeze 9) I Believe In You 8) Hurricane 7) Shake It Loose 6) Young & Tough 5) Let Me Go 4) Hungry For Rock 3) Rescue Me 2) Knock You Out 1) Dirty Girl
One of the greatest Heavy Rock albums of all time… it’s a thrill to hear it spoken about in great detail! ‘Knock You Out’ is my personal favourite. I would liken Dave Meniketti to Bernie Marsden….unsung ,classic Les Paul, blues based, tasteful playing.
Barnstorming LP, 2nd only to Black Tiger for me. I used to play in an obscure NWOBHM band & around 83 to fill out our set we played 3 or 4 covers, one of which was Let Me Go!
Great show, gents! This album deserves lots of love! I'm a bit surprised to hear that it wasnt a big seller in the US...for some reason i always thought Resque Me was somewhat of a hitsingle back then... Anyway... Fantastic album. Greetingz from the Netherlands \m/
Great show Steven, Simon, and Pete! I love Y&T and Earthshaker is a stellar record. This is my favorite next to In Rock We Trust which I believe has become underrated over the years despite the fact that it is actually their most successful in the States. From least favorite to most favorite: 10. Hungry for Rock 9. She's Too Tough 8. Knock You Out 7. Shake It Loose 6. Let Me Go 5. Hurricane 4. Squeeze 3. Dirty Girl 2. Rescue Me 1. I Believe in You
@@alexsuperpower1 Thank you Alex! Yes, you can't go wrong with the albums from Earthshaker through In Rock We Trust. They're all at least 9 out of 10 for me. :)
I absolutely love this album, but it had been such a long time since I last listened to it, so thanks for reintroducing it to me! This was really hard!! So here goes... 10 Shake it Loose 9 Young and Tough 8 Squeeze 7 Let Me Go 6 I Believe in You 5 Hurricane 4 Knock You Out 3 Hungry For Rock 2 Dirty Girl 1 Rescue Me
Like a true SoT nerd I had my ranking done before watching the episode and oh yes, I'm with Steven: #1 Rescue Me and #2 I Believe in You. It's close but that's the order for me today... Hadn't listened to Earthshaker for a few years so this was a nice reason to hear it again. The band's In Rock We Trust from 1984 has a special place in my heart because along with the debut by W.A.S.P it was the record that introduced me to harder edged rock in late summer 1985. My little brother had them on a C-tape and one day I listened to it in my room and yeah, thus began my journey into hard rock and heavy metal at the age of thirteen, soon to be fourteen... 10 Shake It Loose 09 Young and Tough (I just now realised, duh... Y&T! 😆) 08 Knock You Out 07 Let Me Go The really good/great stuff... 06 Hungry for Rock 05 Dirty Girl 04 Squeeze 03 Hurricane 02 I Believe in You 01 Rescue Me
I was blown away in 81 by this album. Me and probably 2 other guys in the whole of Belgium 😊 Seriously, their best album. The entire band is on fire and Dave is absolutely fantastic. I believe in you is my nr 1 Epic song, timeless, and I never get bored of it! Great show !
I bought and listened to my first Y&T album earlier this year. I came across their live album Open Fire at my local record shop. So so pleasantly surprised. It's so much fun!
Great, entertaining episode gentlemen! Saw Y&T supporting AC/DC in ‘82, Meneketti was sensational. Also at MOR in ‘84 then Nottingham Rock City a few years ago..great live band! How about an episode on Rainbow’s Down to Earth album?😀🤞
What a fun album! I Believe In You feels like it's this album's Free Bird and stands out as a highlight, but it's all decent to great. Best to worst (today!): I believe in you Rescue me Dirty Girl Young and tough Hurricane Squeeze Shake it loose Knock you out Let me go Hungry for rock
For a long time I Believe in You and Rescue Me were my favourite tracks on this album but for a long time now they’ve been replaced by Knock You Out and Let Me Go 🇬🇧 10. Shake it Loose 9. Squeeze 8. Young and Tough 7. Hungry for Rock 6. Dirty Girl 5. Hurricane 4. Rescue Me 3. I Believe in You 2. Knock You Out 1. Let Me Go
Love this album and to follow it up with Black Tiger and Meanstreak and be so underated and missing bigger success is a mystery. Although I saw them support a few bands on bigger stages and compared to seeing them headline smaller venues, I would say they never really won over those bigger crowds I was in.Anyway the ranking 10 Squeeze 9 Shake it Loose 8 Let me go 7Young and Tough 6 Knock you out 5 Dirty girl 4Hurricane 3 Hungry for rock 2 I believe in you 1 Rescue me.
Great episode as usual with one of the most underrated band's of all-time. By the way, Shakin Stevens was a big deal here in Sweden for a year or two in the early 80s. 😂
I'm pretty sure I bought this on import when it was released. I'd be interested to know when it was officially released in the UK compared to its US release date. Black Tiger and Mean Streak got a bit of a push from the record company tho. Having said that, Earthshaker is easily my favourite Y&T album. Rescue Me, and Dirty Girl are the standout tracks but it's a really solid album👍🏻
It's a great album . I used to like them, think I saw them too many times back in the day .This is my favourite album by them . Still popular here in the UK .
Hi Guys. Great chat. Excellent album. First heard Hurricane on a compilation cassette in High School and I was hooked. Here is my ranking. 1. I believe In You - Has to b number 1 IMO epic song. 2. Hurricane - Love the guitar work 3. Rescue Me 4. Dirty Girl- The Bass and Drums stand out in this song. 5. Squeeze 6. Hungry For Rock - Good Opener 7. Shake It Loose - Boogie theme is all right 8. Knock You Out 9. Young And Tough 10. Let Me Go
Absolutely love this album, definitely their best for me, though Black Tiger & Meanstreak run it close. Had the pleasure of Dave & his wife Jill tolerating my drunken ramblings in a Glasgow hotel bar after seeing them at the Cathouse in 2007. Lovely people and a great band. I’m with Steven in that Rescue Me shades it for me…but the live version of I Believe in You from Open Fire might just about be my all-time favourite from Y&T🤘🏻
Question!!! Pete, I would really be interested in a video where you would expend on your « review of albums » process. Is it a formal process or quite informal? Do you write an official review that you keep for future references? Do you sit in isolation to listen to the albums? Do you have a special rating chart? Etc…. I am really interested in the process itself. Maybe something you could address in a video or something you could discuss with Mr Popoff on a Friday morning show!!! As usual, this was a great video!
My top 12 1. Bastards 2. We Are Motörhead 3. Bomber 4. Kiss of Death 5. Orgasmatron 6. Hammered 7. Overkill 8. Snake Bite Love 9. Ace of Spades 10. 1916 11. The World is Yours 12. Another Perfect Day They never made a bad album.
When In Rock In Trust came ...that Was wauuu.. and that''s will be always be fav.. but that album, you're talking about are sound "early 80's " good sounds ..and dave are always been like Rick Medlocke and DLRoth....🎸👍🤔
I know it's totally unrelated but are there any plans on a review of Fish's 13th Star Deluxe edition. Be really interested on what you & Steven have to say about it. Greetings from sunny N.Ireland 🍻
I have a very jaundiced view of this album, and it doesn't reflect on it's quality. At Monsters of Rock 1984 (which was strangely blessed by nice weather) we camped the night before and were next to someone with a "ghetto blaster" which had this album on loop, all night...and I mean all night. By the end of the weekend I could not care less if I never heard I Believe In You ever again! I have seen Y&T in recent times (basically Meniketti and others - who were very good) and when they play I Believe in You it is still a struggle. That all said they were/are very talented and had some very good albums (last time I saw them they encored with the 1st side of Black Tiger!) and Dave Meniketti is underrated as guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. The postscript is that Y&T were on the bill at Donington that year and they had gone glam and had a very strange robot join them on stage. Had they stuck with the jeans and T shirt straight ahead approach it may have suited them better. The first time I saw them was supporting ACDC (1982) and they were excellent. A great choice for a show.
Saw Y&T on that Arena MOR package that happened for a few years. They were with Gary Moore and Whitesnake. Ok but never went on to buy anything. Not sure that will change but an entertaining show all the same.
@wolf1977 As the guys have regularly mentioned about 'the journey' I picked the LP up due to Paul Stanley being the producer and me being a massive teenage Kiss fan! Loved the album ever since.
@wolf1977 I'm well aware that Kiss aren't for everyone! I turned 60 last year and still haven't outgrown their music! However I have outgrown paying OTT prices to see them! Would happily pay that money to see New England tho!
@@RustyfaetheShire Quite possibly the "nostalgia factor"...I'm more or less the same age (63) but Kiss never appealed to me at the time although I had plenty of friends who liked them back then - including some who joined the "Army". That would've been around the same time when I first got into fusion
...talk about "hearing things differently"...all 3 of you put "Let Me Go" in the bottom 3...it's been in my top 3 since I first heard this in '81...hmmm...anyway, here's my list... 1) Hurricane 2) Rescue Me 3) Let Me Go 4) Hungry For Rock 5) Young And Tough 6) Dirty Girl 7) I Believe In You 8) Knock You Out 9) Shake It Loose 10) Squeeze
There was a KERRAANG magazine years ago that spotlighted Y & T playing live in the UK or mainland England. There was a picture of Dave Meniketti with guitar stank face. The writer captioned the picture with the following. I'm so good I make myself sick! So true where Dave is concerned.
First saw the video for “Mean Streak” in 1983. Always thought they were ridiculously underrated. I think that the name of the band was their undoing. Nobody could figure out who they were Y and T? Or Yesterday and Today? Unnecessary confusion and simple terms marketing is most critical. When folks don’t know you they will ignore you. Too bad because they were super talented. Better than 90% of 80’s bands in my opinion
Great Sunday fun video.

...and what constitutes a "classic album"? Obviously it's all down to personal interpretation & what we like in music since music is ultimately a personal experience but I think there are some general "tests" that many tend to use in order to label their favorites as "classic":
1) The best album(s) of a band that you like (regardless of age or whether anyone else likes them or calls them classics)
2) Albums that "everyone" (or maybe 90% of a random panel of 100 rock fans locked in a room would agree is 'classic' when asked) agrees to.
I think Pete has tackled this topic before (with Martin?)
5) Extraordinary skill/musicianship - you may not even necessarily like the music that much but you appreciate what went into creating it.
10 young and Tough
9 Knock You Out
8 Shake It Loose
7 Hungry For Rock
6 Hurricane
5 Dirty Girl
4 Let Me Go
3 Squeeze
2 Rescue Me
1 I Believe In You
This is probably my 3rd favorite album of theirs as I put Black Tiger and Mean Streak ahead of this one, but all 3 are absolutely incredible.
Earth shaker & Black Tiger 10/10 albums
Possibly the best episode ever. Great fun. One of my top 10 albums of all time. Great work Hentd
I was also at Reading in ‘82…….:and yes I know the ‘surprise surprise’ thing😉🤘😂
I will be happy to watch this show. I'm no Y&T expert, but I have the double CD "Earthquake Tne A&M Years 1981-1985" and it's really great music!
That was a dream band. Leonard Haze was a fabulous drummer. The following album Black Tiger was good as well.
1. I believe in you
2. Hurricane
3 Rescue Me
4. Squeeze
5. Hungry for rock
6. Knock you out
7. Dirty girl
8. Shake it loose
9. Young & Tough
10. Let me go
This is one of the great albums of my musical upbringing.
My ranking
Rescue me, I believe in you, Let me go, Dirty girl, Hurricane, Knock you out, Hungry for rock, Young and tough, Squeeze, Shake it loose.
The soloing is top class. A solid classic rock album.
Bought the first Yesterday And Today album when it came out, along with the follow up. Imagine my delight when I found this album in the racks (with the abbreviated moniker). A great album to be sure but the first two will forever be my favorites.
Great show gents. Like Simon, Y&T pretty much passed me by. I have some listening to do!
Bought this LP in 1981. Hurricane remains my favourite. Love Squeeze too.
Those are the two tracks that stand out from this album.
@@georgelamie7001 always have been for me. The rest is ok but not overly memorable
Hi Pete and Simon and Steven great fun with you as always,i have never heard of this band before,so i will have to check them out
Favorite songs on the album are Dirty Girl, Rescue Me, Hurricane, Let Me Go, Knock You Out & I Believe In You.
A superb band, very under appreciated. There’s a reissued Live album from 1990 with some additional tracks which is just phenomenal.
Another great show! I always literally Laugh Out Loud watching The UK Connection! this was so tough, Earthshaker is my #2 Y&T album close behind Mean Streak.
And i absolutely LOVE every song on this rekkid! well, here goes...
10. Young And Tough
9. Hungry For Rock
8. Shake It Loose
7. Let Me Go
6. Squeeze
5. Dirty Girl
4. Rescue Me
3. Hurricane
2. Knock You Out
1. I Believe In You

4. Hurricane
5. Rescue Me
6. Squeeze
7. Young & Tough
8. Knock You out
9. Let Me Out
The man who doesn’t like Black Sabbath has great taste?🤔
@@mahogany174 Or Led Zeppelin...
Hadn't listened to this album for a Long long time. Found ranking the songs difficult as apart from one or two they are much of a much - not in a bad way. Going early as the show clashes with the live Vuelta (Tour of Spain). Anyhow:
1. Hungry for Rock - dated but who cares a rocking good tune.
2. I believe in you - another bloody ballad - but a better effort than most.
3. Squeeze - guitar with speed
4. Hurricane - good but not as Uriah Heep's latest same named track
5. Young and tough
6. Dirty Girl - lyrics to get you cancelled now!
7.Let Me Go - classic riffing
8. Rescue me
9.Knock you out
10.Shake it loose
Easy listening rock n roll following a well worn path, but none the less enjoyable for that.
An absolute classic album for me...A staple of my youth and I still have the CD in my car!
10) Squeeze
9) I Believe In You
8) Hurricane
7) Shake It Loose
6) Young & Tough
5) Let Me Go
4) Hungry For Rock
3) Rescue Me
2) Knock You Out
1) Dirty Girl
One of the greatest Heavy Rock albums of all time… it’s a thrill to hear it spoken about in great detail! ‘Knock You Out’ is my personal favourite.
I would liken Dave Meniketti to Bernie Marsden….unsung ,classic Les Paul, blues based, tasteful playing.
Love these duo, uncle Simon is the best!!
Greetingz from the Netherlands

Classic underrated band. Always look forward to this show
Great show Steven, Simon, and Pete! I love Y&T and Earthshaker is a stellar record. This is my favorite next to In Rock We Trust which I believe has become underrated over the years despite the fact that it is actually their most successful in the States.
From least favorite to most favorite:
10. Hungry for Rock
9. She's Too Tough
8. Knock You Out
7. Shake It Loose
6. Let Me Go
5. Hurricane
4. Squeeze
3. Dirty Girl
2. Rescue Me
1. I Believe in You
I love in Rock we trust aswell. My personal favorite is black tiger, but Y&T has many great albums. Great ranking too :)
@@alexsuperpower1 Thank you Alex! Yes, you can't go wrong with the albums from Earthshaker through In Rock We Trust. They're all at least 9 out of 10 for me. :)
Great show once again with the zany U.K. guys. Pete, looks like that 7.5 was kicking in by the end of the show. Classic album too!
Terrific show. Thanks.
I absolutely love this album, but it had been such a long time since I last listened to it, so thanks for reintroducing it to me! This was really hard!! So here goes...
10 Shake it Loose
9 Young and Tough
8 Squeeze
7 Let Me Go
6 I Believe in You
5 Hurricane
4 Knock You Out
3 Hungry For Rock
2 Dirty Girl
1 Rescue Me
I Believe in You at number six?! Wow, don't let Pete see that, hahah... Same number one as me though - and Steven!
10 Shake It Loose
09 Young and Tough (I just now realised, duh... Y&T! 😆)
08 Knock You Out
07 Let Me Go
The really good/great stuff...
06 Hungry for Rock
05 Dirty Girl
04 Squeeze
03 Hurricane
02 I Believe in You
01 Rescue Me
I was blown away in 81 by this album. Me and probably 2 other guys in the whole of Belgium 😊
Seriously, their best album. The entire band is on fire and Dave is absolutely fantastic. I believe in you is my nr 1 Epic song, timeless, and I never get bored of it! Great show !
My personal favorite Y&T album.Great show guys.Always makes me laugh!Enjoy it so much!Thank you!
There is a Y+T box set which has Earthshaker, Black Tiger, Mean Streak, In rock we Trust and Down for the Count on it. The A&M Years 1981-1985.
Awesome show, the perfect chemistry between three musicmen 🤘🏼
I bought and listened to my first Y&T album earlier this year. I came across their live album Open Fire at my local record shop. So so pleasantly surprised. It's so much fun!
Love Y&T!
Rescue Me/ Y&T, Magic Power/ Triumph & The Spirit/ Magnum best songs of my rock upbringing
What a fun album! I Believe In You feels like it's this album's Free Bird and stands out as a highlight, but it's all decent to great.
Best to worst (today!):
I believe in you
Rescue me
Dirty Girl
Young and tough
Hurricane
Squeeze
Shake it loose
Knock you out
Let me go
Hungry for rock
Agreed on "I Believe In You" & I also like "Rescue Me" as well. That's about it for me though - "Hurricane" maybe...
Another excellent show. Thanks lads. I have heard of Y & T but never heard anything by them, Spotify here I come :)
For a long time I Believe in You and Rescue Me were my favourite tracks on this album but for a long time now they’ve been replaced by Knock You Out and Let Me Go 🇬🇧
10. Shake it Loose
9. Squeeze
8. Young and Tough
7. Hungry for Rock
6. Dirty Girl
5. Hurricane
4. Rescue Me
3. I Believe in You
2. Knock You Out
1. Let Me Go
Steven Reid is hard to understand sometimes but still one of my favorite people on SOT. Also, Y&T maybe the more underrated band ever!
Love this album and to follow it up with Black Tiger and Meanstreak and be so underated and missing bigger success is a mystery. Although I saw them support a few bands on bigger stages and compared to seeing them headline smaller venues, I would say they never really won over those bigger crowds I was in.Anyway the ranking
10 Squeeze
9 Shake it Loose
8 Let me go
7Young and Tough
6 Knock you out
5 Dirty girl
4Hurricane
3 Hungry for rock
2 I believe in you
1 Rescue me.
Thank you lads.
All are great songs!!!
Simon might very well be the most humorous individual I've ever observed either in person or on video.
Hi Guys. Great chat. Excellent album. First heard Hurricane on a compilation cassette in High School and I was hooked. Here is my ranking.
1. I believe In You - Has to b number 1 IMO epic song.
2. Hurricane - Love the guitar work
3. Rescue Me
4. Dirty Girl- The Bass and Drums stand out in this song.
5. Squeeze
6. Hungry For Rock - Good Opener
7. Shake It Loose - Boogie theme is all right
8. Knock You Out
9. Young And Tough
10. Let Me Go
Great ranking, would be very similiar to mine! The riff on Hurricane and soloing is spectacular.
Great show
Absolutely love this album, definitely their best for me, though Black Tiger & Meanstreak run it close.
Martin and I discussed this very topic on the Do Our Opinions Matter episode a while back
My top 12
1. Bastards
2. We Are Motörhead
3. Bomber
4. Kiss of Death
5. Orgasmatron
6. Hammered
7. Overkill
8. Snake Bite Love
9. Ace of Spades
10. 1916
11. The World is Yours
12. Another Perfect Day
They never made a bad album.
Simon is the star of this show.
When In Rock In Trust came ...that
Was wauuu.. and that''s will be always be fav.. but that album, you're talking about are sound "early 80's " good sounds ..and dave are always been like Rick Medlocke and DLRoth....🎸👍🤔
UK Connection tee shirt ordered 🤘🤘
Fantastic album. One of the rare ones where there isnt a track on that I dont like.
Fun fact: I Believe in You was originally called ‘ I’ll be Leaving you’
I know it's totally unrelated but are there any plans on a review of Fish's 13th Star Deluxe edition.
Hi there. Just wondering if the debut New England album will be included in a future AOR show ?
Really should be - good band! Their New England Archives Box is really good too & I like their Explorer Suite as well
@wolf1977 As the guys have regularly mentioned about 'the journey' I picked the LP up due to Paul Stanley being the producer and me being a massive teenage Kiss fan! Loved the album ever since.
@@RustyfaetheShire Strangely I'm not a Kiss fan at all (literally I like maybe 5 or 6 Kiss tunes) but I like a lot of New England's stuff
1) Hurricane
2) Rescue Me
3) Let Me Go
4) Hungry For Rock
5) Young And Tough
6) Dirty Girl
7) I Believe In You
8) Knock You Out
9) Shake It Loose
10) Squeeze
There was a KERRAANG magazine years ago that spotlighted Y & T playing live in the UK or mainland England. There was a picture of Dave Meniketti with guitar stank face. The writer captioned the picture with the following. I'm so good I make myself sick! So true where Dave is concerned.
Wah Gwaan is Jamaican patois meaning 'What's going on?'
Drinking on a Wednesday evening...tut tut.
Wednesday is called 'little Saturday' here in Finland, it means you're allowed to party in the middle of the week, lol.
I remember John parrs soft hands. It still make me laugh
And...... No one mentioned the word "Growler"! 🤣😅😂
Steven, is your t shirt a Scottish tribute band called Neep Purple?😂
Chorley yeeees
Have never heard anything from this band.
Y&T did not tour enough...
