Where would you rank Evil Dead Rise in the franchise?

    • @owensreviews625

I’d say probably as the 4th best Evil Dead film. Not as good as the original trilogy, but better than the 2013 remake.

I would say as a horror film it's really good (If I ranked by horror I'd say Remake, Rise, 1, 2, AoD) but as an Evil Dead film it might be the worst. Not saying it's bad but Evil Dead 1 is a fantastic classic horror, 2 is a great blend of horror and comedy, AoD was a great comedy showing who Ash is and would become. The remake was a fantastic remake. I loved Rise as a horror but it felt the least like an 'Evil Dead' film.

I would say 4th or 5th, tied with Evil Dead (2013). I love both of them for different reasons and both are 4.5/5 for me and OG Trilogy being 5/5 and Evil Dead II in my top 10 favorite films of all time.

At the bottom. Not as creative and memorable as the original trilogy, and it doesn't forge enough of its own identity like the remake.

Evil Dead Rise is, to quote a great man, groovy. Sure it can’t top what Raimi and Campbell have done before, but as a next step in one of horror’s most beloved franchises, it does a really good job.

I think its alright, I feel like it's a greatest hits of what evil dead did before with some potential. Its gotta get off the homages though. Waited 10 years to get a new one and it felt like it was the cabin setup but in a apartment floor/garage. The place has to be rundown.

I took my dad (not a big horror guy) to see this in theatres when it came out, and seeing his reactions to the carnage on screen was almost more entertaining than the movie itself. Really good movie in it's own right, but that experience makes it a ten out of ten to me.

I do still enjoy this film, although I did wish it was a little more unique. Aside from the setting and characters, the general plot is still the same as most of the other films, and while that's not inherently a problem, I do think it kinda struggles to give itself a distinct voice. Aside from that, I had a good time first time watching.

I felt strange watching this film, it’s not that I didn’t enjoy it… rather for the first time with an Evil Dead experience, I wasn’t really surprised. Perhaps that’s due to me being jaded at this point, but even the 10 year old remake managed to be unexpected in its methodology even though nearly the exact same events happen. I don’t know how to describe it… there were also some glaring plot holes. Perhaps I just need time to let Rise grow on me

  • @attackofthetheeyecreatures3472

I like it. A lot of fans don't. And a lot of fans are saying they like the 2013 remake more. I don't. I honestly like 'Rise' more. I can't put my finger on why, but I do.

I knew you would say Evil Dead 2 was the greatest of time lol, I used to think Army of darkness was top but watching them again last year, I have changed my mind, part 2 is indeed the best. Rise really surprised me, I thought it was going to be rubbish or meh at best, but I really enjoyed it. Evil Dead franchise is one horror series that doesn't have a bad movie, I worry like you if they keep making more then they might drop the ball, I really hope that doesn't happen and they maintain the high quality. You said you'd talk about the TV show next, but I've always considered Drag Me To Hell a secret Evil Dead movie, spin off if you will, it pretty much has all the traits you'd find in an Evil Dead movie, it would be interesting if you did a video on that.

Evil Dead is probably my favorite horror franchise. I love the original trilogy, the remake is one of the better horror remakes out there (although, obviously not touching the likes of John Carpenter's The Thing or Cronenberg's Fly) and Ash vs. Evil Dead was ton of fun, probably one of my personal favorite tv-shows (at least in the very specific genre of "tv-show sequels to movies").
Rise was... fine, but super generic. It kinda continues the trajectory started by the remake of trying to play the premise more straight and be a "real horror movie", rather than a crazy horror comedy like Bruce Campbell starring instalments were, but with the remake I accepted that more, since it helped it to have a different identity from those and was still very over-the-top movie. Meanwhile, Rise is by the end kinda nothing experience. Doesn't help it was clearly supposed to originally be a low-budget direct-to-streaming movie, so while the production values are decent by those standards, it clearly has to be sparing, when it comes to big horror money-shots, which would be fine with a different movie, but I come into Evil Dead expecting a wild ride, which this didn't really give me until the very end for five minutes.
I don't to want say I hated it, but at the same time, I kinda don't want to include it in any future Evil Dead marathons of mine and would rather see the franchise be put to rest than continue in this style.
But, since they are obviously going to make more, could we at least get creative deadite designs back? I'm so tired of "a person rolled in a puddle of mud few minutes and was then given yellow contacts" look from both this and the remake.

I'm glad I was able to see both the 2013 and Rise in theaters, though my theater for Rise was empty and that was a bit disappointing to see. I think that this film can be a good entry point into the series for anyone who hasn't seen them yet; the very beginning might be confusing I suppose but you'll learn the rules and stuff throughout.

This was my first evil dead movie and I'm planning on binge watching the rest for the last week of October because y'know, Halloween. And it's legitimately great! I've seen clips, and I read that evil dead- marvel zombies book so I was vaguely aware of what the franchise is about but this movie I was practically dragged to go see very much exceeded my expectations, especially considering I really don't care too much for horror movies.

During my Spooktober watches this year, I rewatched all the Evil Dead movies before finally diving into Rise. Now having watched all of them in more or less a row (2 reigns supreme) I can say this is probably my least favorite. That being said, it's still a really good and fun movie with some great performances and blood. I think it says a lot about the Evil Dead franchise that because there are very few films, they're able to always be a delight and not overstay their welcome. I am interested in seeing where the franchise goes from here. To me, Raimi's plan sounds similar to Predator where each film gives a new setting and character while keeping the basic essentials. To me I think it's the best of both worlds; it gives filmmakers a chance to add something new to the table while keeping the spirit of Evil Dead alive.
My ranking would be 2 > Evil Dead 2013 > Army of Darkness > The Evil Dead > Rise (but again they're all good movies).
Very excited for the final video in the Halloween series. And I finally watched The Blob and yes it rules.

Like the film franchise is known for being bloody sure, but the splatter felt like a tool being used to make them instead of the entire point but there were parts in the show where it really felt like entire segments were made just for the splatter.

the movie has grown on me, but when i saw it opening night, the first gore scene didn't impress me and felt like a step back from the rest of the series. And it definitely takes alot from Aliens & Evil Dead 2, but still telling the same story loop we al know, the Terminator series problem. Afraid to take risk out side the familiarity. But it shot well, and well acted and I like the single location being outside the cabin. But it tried to market it self as gory film and it one of the least in the series.
    overall feeling:
    Evil Dead 2
    Evil Dead Remake
    Army Of Darkness
    Drag Me To Hell
    Evil Dead Rise
Evil Dead (original--doesnt mean it bad, just 2 destroys it)

Can't put my finger on why, but I was cold to the characters and turned it off after about 30 minutes. It's rare that I don't finish a film once started. Almost reminded me of Demoni 2, but not quite as good, and Demoni 2 wasn't as good as Demoni 1.
I found Evil Dead 2013 great and did connect to that story.

I think it’s a fantastic horror film, but to me it was missing most of the hallmarks that make evil dead feel like evil dead, the humor wasn’t as present, the setting was wildy different, and I didn’t feel like it connected to the original story in a way that felt solid. On its own I think it’s AMAZING. I just, kind of don’t think of it as an evil dead film if that makes sense?

I love Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, but I'm not a big gore guy and I'm saddened that hyper realistic gore has become associated with this Franchise, because it's moved a long way from a pencil in the ankle.

Me and my dad watched it twice once in theaters and once at home. We really have it a chance. But it just didn't feel like an evil dead movie to us. Just a meh movie in general

I was hoping to like evil dead rise, but I couldn’t help seeing all the scenes borrowed whole hog from the khorror series sweet home. It was a big disappointment

What are you talking about those properties have nothing in common besides concept and setting. It’s two completely different stories and I doubt Lee Cronin ever read the webcomic.
