Well done, love the way you explain the differences before going into an analysis. The custom test area was cool too. Thanks!

This was what I was looking for when I googled. Awesome.

I'm early in the game, but there were a few situations where had already used my double jump and could've gotten away from an enemy that had suddenly moved to where I would land if I had air dash, but that being said.. Blink saved me many more times. Dark Souls is my favorite game so I'm very comfortable using invincibility to dodge

Great video. Exactly what I needed to get a feel for the different techs.
    Thank you.

Thank you, this video really helped me make a choice for what to use my very first 8 tech cards on. I just bought Starbound this summer and am loving it, but there's a lot to learn, without online resources like your videos I'd be more lost.

I wish they’d balance the Head Tech, I feel like the other types of Tech have balancing, so you could choose any option and it’s viable, but with the Head stuff, only the spike sphere is really useful in most situations.
My proposal to fix the Sphere techs:
    - Aqua Sphere should be able to go underwater as well as on top, essentially making it the ultimate water transportation method
-Sonic Sphere should not have the initial boost, instead allowing you to have a small hit box, be able to jump slightly higher than the base player can, move faster in general, small fall damage reduction, and have a slight bounce. The balancing for this would be that one use makes your energy deplete no matter what, so you can’t just spam it multiple times.
-Spike Sphere is good as is, but I’d say give it even more lighting effect, just so it can maintain viability
-I think even REPLACING the Aqua Sphere with an “Attack Sphere” would be cool, something akin to Asra Nox’s sphere mode in the Grand Pagoda Library mission, either dealing damage with contact or by shooting projectiles (damage base 10-20, but scales with armor). The way to balance this one would be making it cost none or a tiny amount of energy initially, but with each hit/shot fired, it depletes an amount of energy.
I wish Chucklefish would give some love to this game again :(

spike sphere is amazing for the challenge rooms you can find in the underground, you can bypass SO many obstacles.
walljump is really good if you are an old school metroid player and can help mitigate fall damage if you are good with it.

The Sonic Sphere is almost useless?
    No it isnt!
    And heres the point.
Its the best tech to travel.
Go to a mountain top or tower up a little, charge release it, immediately jump press f and use an air jump and you have to speed in the air.
To get no falldamage use your last jump near the ground.
Hopefully you now know its usefull.

I'm very surprised to have heard that Sonic Sphere is useless. I find it amazing when I want to travel long distances, especially when combined with multi jump.
The key is to stay in the air as long as possible, as ground friction is what holds it back, but in the air I find it unparalleled in long distance travel.
As someone else has commented, the trick of having some height like a mountain, or even a building I find, helps a lot, and if you can get 4 jumps off evenly spaced, or use the first 3 to go horizontal and hold the last one to cancel fall damage you'll be going faster than anything but teleportation to my knowledge. As for not being able to climb walls, I've got a grappling gun and I find it much more fun and also faster, as well as unlocking another medium distance speed tech (when also combined with multi-jump).
Even with those I do still like rounding out my techs with Sprint for when I'm running through towns or short distances, as it's slow enough to open doors proper and it's the simplest speed boost to perform.

I bought the rocket jump expecting something with less control but more power and control over your initial direction and that would've been good for me since I want to dodge with my jumps, but that build up.. I'm honestly thinking of sticking with Pulse Jump, it seems to have a faster thrust away than multi-jump for dodging purposes

These techs are so trash compared to old starbound ones. Like really. And the chests that contained them at least gave you the reason to go looking for them as well.

Srry....but sprint is very useless BECAUSE of augments :D

    • @Tecorsuh
      @Tecorsuh  7 років тому +2

To each their own, but the EPP only gets one augment slot and, in my opinion, is better to have something besides speed into it, such as Damage, Health, Healing, Energy, or even Light. Besides that, the speed and mobility augments don't give more speed than sprinting does. According to the wiki, speed/mobility augments give a 20% increase to speed. Sprinting give a 60% increase to speed. I don't know if they stack, but it would be interesting if they could. I would still choose a different augment though.
Also, which body tech would you use if not sprint?
Dash lets you move a short distance quickly. It doesn't provide any sort of invulnerability while doing do, so enemies still hurt. It's not very good for getting away from enemies because of the short distance it moves the character and the cool-down between each use of it.
Air Dash is identical to Dash, except that it can be used while jumping or falling.
Blink has the character disappear and reappear a few blocks away. Not very useful for combat because the distance is about the same as Dash. It does have the advantage of the character does disappear so enemies can't hit you while you are blinking. But it has a longer cool-down time than Dash, so it is bad for retreating. Its usability limited to challenge rooms or story dungeons, or some other niche uses that I can't think of at the moment.
Sprint lets you run a long distance quickly. There isn't any sort of invulnerability while sprinting, but you are able to jump once while sprinting. Sprint uses energy while the other body tech doesn't. However, sprint can also be sustained for a long time with a large energy pool, which makes it very good for exploring or getting away from a fight. There isn't a cool-down between uses of sprint, unless you let your energy completely deplete.

air dash is good the mobility or speed augments do stack with the sprint tech in a manner sprint tech also uses energy the augment doesn't. simply said air dash is good cause it offers you better in air mobility then any of the other techs in that slot. if you use multi jump and air dash you can with good timing i believe dash twice while still in the air speeding up your general movement speed anyway. if you use air dash you have increased in air mobility and since it stops your downwards momentum you can use it to stop a nasty falls. additionally you can strait-up fly faster than normally walking with the new drill spear if you have the gravity epp augment and you take less fall damage and jump higher and its easier to time the jumps and they last longer making getting 2 air dashes off easy. another perk of either just strait up flying or spamming jumps and dashes to be in mid air all the time is any rough terrain will never pose a issue for you. (the tech goes off base speed which includes the speed boost from the augment, the augment and tech together should be roughly a 92% increase in speed)

the dashes are all affected by movement speed bonuses as well btw, except blink.
