This guy is musical MacGyver.
That's cool!! It inspired me to make my own.. And how the heck does that sound horrible?! For a homemade uke that sounds good!
I love seeing people build (in a not so serious manner) like I do. I fiddle around and make these same style instruments. Love it.
I found this while looking up stuff to make for my physics project. this is cool 😃 i think I'm gonna make some sort of ukulele
BUT DID YOU EVER PUT FRETS ON IT?!?
Adding frets would help. Ball end uke strings might help.
NOT atrocious, Not terrifying! You've made a fine thing Lad, own up to it yes? You show the possible form the simplest parts. I certainly like what you've done as do (I hope) many others. thank you for this vid. Blessings, pierre from New Mexico
Some great craftsmanship on such a rustic instrument!
Fantabulous! Have seen a similar non-electric one, but great moments in musical history come in small-ish steps hehehe.
just randomly found this video, once i,get my,new house (god i,hope it's soon) I Wana start a work shop and build cool stuff, I think, this is going in,the list
Look out RISA. This is really cool. You've inspired me to build something like this myself. I'm really impressed by your pre-amp. Good stuff.
dude that's awesome! That's really innovative for your materials man. You know that's part of the origin of the `ukulele, right? Cigar boxes and stuff! Really cool. I hope to see the fretted, finished product!
this made me smile, for so many reasons :)
How did you connect the electret microphone and make a preamp? Thanks
Just build a couple of pointy pieces of wood on the bottom end to make a flying V !! or
build a little box to improve its resonance. You could easily add a piezo pickup quite cheaply as well !! But don't tell Seasick Steve !!
That’s amazing! I like how convenient it is!
I think it sounds pretty good for the price!!
Well done.
Nice work! Fret it!!! I think it's a killer concept....and the ultra small size is appealing, frets would do the trick....
That's freaking cool. Makes me think about back in the day, even before a luthier was common...you wanted pants, you made pants. You wanted shoes, you made shoes. You wanted a lute or whatever predecessor stringed instrument, you made it your damn self.
On that note, I'd call that the manliest little baby uke ever.
wahoo hadn't seen this video it's really cool. that thing is barely bigger than a flute!!
you should make an acoustic equivalent by attaching a box with a hole behind it so it sounds louder!
@supermax125 If you do make something, please let me know! I think the part that caught me most off-guard was the mounting of the tuning pegs. Make sure you really visualize how those are going to mount, and GET INTO PLACE before you cut the wood.
@MrJa1l What do you mean by "threads"? Also, this is not any particular song. Just playing some chords around the circle of fifths.
The reason why you are getting harsh metallic sounding because the electret microphone tends to emphasize the higher and odd order harmonics which will translate to harsh sounding. May want to consider a dynamic microphone and a higher gain low noise pre-amplifiers setup.
This looks very well made. great job
when you said you can kind of okay I thought you couldn't play but when you did it was so amazing
wow, sounds really decent! good work! frets will definitely help... I recommend just using zipties at first for ease
Haha. Great stuff, man. I'm curious how you got the electret microphone in there and have the jack installed at the same time. Did you just drill deep? How did you get the jack to stick?
this is brilliant, you've inspired me to try & make one myself. Do you have any tips that could help me?
@JordanneRene I was also surprised how passable it sounded. If you make something (or even if you fail at making something) I would love to see the results.
@captbaritone you now on guitars and such when there are things that stick up so you can press between so you always play a clean tone u even said it yourself at the end
@zagreen I cut the slots (not sure if they are exactly in the correct place) but I still can't find epoxy in a tube with a narrow enough nozzle to apply the glue.
@rippkurlzable I was not purposely playing "Ain't She Sweet" But you are right, the chords are very similar. Also that is a GREAT song!
Very impressive! Great job making it!
"You can amplify its terrible sound, so it sounds like this." LOL that made me laugh
that is awesome, and so are you!
not so terrible sounding to me! Kinda a cutesy black and white mickey mouse-era sound haha :)
@dasteve1987 The baritone ukulele the tuners came from was a $50 instrument that had sat un-played for about 6 years because it sounded terrible. The output jack I had on-hand left over from some other project. The Piezo was cannibalized from a 1990's erra PC mic that was in a junk bin at my house. My point was that it cost me $4 not that you can make one for $4. Also, this was a project for the sake of the project, not so much to build a beautiful sounding instrument. (As you can probably tell)
For the next model, use a stick on acoustic guitar pickup, on Amazon, some cost about $14, and they plug right into an amplifier
@MrRoostercolorado I simply soldered the tiny microphone directly to the end of the headphone jack, drilled a hole in the bottom of the ukulele and hot melt glued the whole thing into that hole so that the headphone jack was flush with the body.
@rodjnemedez I was not playing any particular song, just playing some chords.
Wow that's really cool! I'm making a ukulele too :) btw what song did you play?
Would love to see you make one the same, but as a guitar with six strings. That wouldn't only be cool, it would be worthy of mass production to make a heavy profit!!!
@IronicDonkey1 Thanks for your interest. I made this over a few days during Christmas break.
i plug the pick up thing from an eletric guitar tuner into my amp and it makes that kinda sound.
oneee word: kickass. haha u make me wanna try to make onee except i think id prolly fail miserably. haha i hav a question tho, wht happends when the strings break?
gift me one.....this is beautiful... :) made my day. plz put up a video with frets on it, would love to hear the sound. :)
Dude,
that is amazing
tell us, how do you make that amplifier? i really wanna know 😀
how much measures the piece of wood, and what kind of would is it?
What chords did u play?? It sounds really good
Quite ingenious! Thanks
wait u bouht it for 4 bucks or are u sellin it for 4 bucks
that's really really awesome.
wth??? this is so cool!!! i want one of these!
That's awesome man.
@ukulelebeatsguitar I would be honored! Let me know how it turns out.
@trihunter00 I just bought an Eleuke, and although my $4 uke is a fun toy, it's no instrument.
very original! nice work!
Could anyone please tell me how to make the pre amp? :o
Thank you, thank you, thank you. ✨
How did you make the pre-amp wat kind of resistors
you should make threads for it n btw whats the song?
@rodjnemedez This chord progression is the same as the song "5 foot two, eyes of blue."
What song are you playing?
That's super sick!!!
@CapnTac Not any particular song. Just playing some chords around the circle of fifths.
can distortion pedals be used in that uke?
What (type of) pickup did you use?
@gerwynzxc Sure. It's an output just like an electric guitar.
Brilliant. I wouldn't worry about the sound. I'd love to get something like that for an electric practice ukulele that I could use at night with earphones so I don't wake my wife up.
Sounds good!
The frets will make it sound better
would you like my help with the next one?
get in!
good work!!
@thebigbadwolf96 Unfortunate, the tools I used were at my parent's house and I don't often spend more than a small amount of time there.
i bet it would sound very nice with frets :) but its still super cool
That's so awesome!!
I am amazed.
that thing is awesome!
I want to make this so much!
@MrShezzer Thanks! I was surprised myself.
what is the song?!?!?!??!
it sounds alright, id buy it.
wow thats really cool nice job
well done!
Prezado, por favor me venda um uklele desse que você criou
AWESOME!
@charliemunroe113 Where do you live?
love it!
AAAH I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
Very awesome!
Please make a tutorial vid if you haven't already
"This is the Terrifying outcome" hahaha
most excellent!!!!!
inovation ! great work !
omg, i so wanna make one!! please make a tutorial!!!!!!
If you've got a broken car laying around, and you buy a $4 part to rebuild/fix it, it's not really honest to say you built a car for $4. You already had the wood, knobs, pens, wood-working tools, etc.
Don't get me wrong, that's pretty rad.
it sounds good, and the reason u say it sounds tht way is because it doesnt have frets.... u should put them on it man!!!
That is probably the coolest $4 ever spent.
Make a video how to do it
You look you have teleported here from 60s.
