How to get from downtown Vancouver to downtown Victoria, taking BC Ferries and booking through the BC Ferries Connector.
BC Ferries Connector: www.bcfconnector.com
It is possible to plan your own way to the ferry terminal, but for people who don't know the route very well (like me) I believe this is a convenient and affordable solution.
Note - in the video I mention that there are different stops available to get off the bus in Victoria. It's also possible to chose a different location to get on the bus in Vancouver. There are a few different pick up locations across downtown. For me, heading to Pacific Central Bus Station was the easiest option though.
Disclaimer - after learning about BC Ferries Connector, I reached out to the Wilson Group and they offered complimentary travel between Vancouver and Victoria for making this video.

Thank you, This was so helpful for someone who has never visited British Columbia, The little details and pictures in the video really helped. We didn't see any whales but it was relaxing and enjoyable on the ferry. Lots of beautiful scenery and fresh air! Definitely coming back to Victoria, maybe we'll try the ferry from Seattle next time since we live in the States.
That's great Mary, I'm glad I could help!
Dude, this video was simply amazing! Thanks for that. I am going to Victoria in about 2 weeks and you saved my life :) Very well edited and you did a great job explaining all the details!
As a lifelong Victorian, often travel to Vancouver. A $2.50 bus trip to ferry, on which I purchase for about $10 a trans-link day-pass, entitling unlimited travel throughout vancouver and the lower mainland by bus, skytrain, and seabus.
Thank you soooooo much. I was researching this and it was so confusing. You made it easy and doable! Cheers
Wow I’m born & raised local - yet I still end up watching & learning so much from you! I didn’t even know they started doing theses BC Ferry Connectors ... So that settles it, I am going to ditch the car... Victoria is so compact + walkable - you don’t need a car anyway.
My god your video are so helpful! A few months ago I subscribed to you for information regarding Montreal, and now you are helping me again.
Thank you for such a detail information. I am sure that it will help to a lot of people. It is always good to learn from somebody else and not to make mistakes.
You're welcome! I just try to make the video I would have wanted to see before taking the trip :)
Perfect info for what I was looking for. Better info than the BC Connector website. Taking this tomorrow and know exactly what I need to do tomorrow. Thanks
the dining room for the buffet has an awesome view while you are having your meal
It is 2022 and I still had the same difficult you had in finding information. The information about how is the process I couldnt find only in your video it became clear. Thanks.
Glad I could help
Victoria vlogs coming soon!! What do you want to see first:
* Whale Watching 🐋
* Exploring the City 🌇
whale watching! Haha but I'm biased cause I already explored the city last year in my own vlog :) good video man!
Whale whatching!!!
Exploring the city, thanks
There's also a B.C. Ferries Connector from Vancouver Airport to the same station in downtown Victoria, which is located right behind the Empress Hotel and Victoria Convention Centre.
For one of our many trips to Victoria, the airfare to Vancouver was significantly cheaper than flying to Victoria, so we took the bus/ferry approach. Things may have changed in the intervening decades, but we bought our bus tickets and boarded within steps of the baggage carousels. And, as you noted, Capital City Station is within a couple of blocks of dozens of the most popular Victoria hotels (with a wide range of prices), as well as several of the best downtown B&Bs. It really was a very convenient and pleasant way to get to downtown Victoria.
Did this trip in 2013. Absolutely right. Cheap - easy and amazing sightseeing around Vancouver and Victoria. The ferry boat is humongous and awsome - it is a great 90 min. boat cruise. You can't be wrong with the BC Ferries Connector plan. One of my best trip ever in Canada. :)
That's great Joa1717, thanks for sharing.
It looks like you got to do everything in Vancouver, whale spotting included! So awesome!
Haha it was a bit outside Vancouver, but pretty close 😝
Thank you for this! I've never been to Canada & have in mind a Vancouver B.C. vacation in 2023. While there, I would like to take a day or overnight trip to Victoria. This gives me an idea of how I might do it.
Very useful information. I am so glad I found your video. I am planning a trip to Victoria and I did not know what is the best way to travel from Vancouver to Victoria without a car.
I have done this trip this way. Good tip. Also spending the extra money, if you have a big appetite, it is worth it to enjoy the all-you-can-eat Pacific Buffet. Feels like an exclusive lounge, few noisy kids, and the best views of the trip.
Thanks for this, was very helpful!
Thx for the vid! I’m arriving at the YVR airport with a bike in a box. The BC Ferries website said it can take the box on the bus. Because of your vid, I understand now that my bike won’t be offloaded and loaded again for the bus/ferry / bus ride. It’s stays on board and the bus is loaded on the ferry! Thank you Thank you! No where does the BC Ferries website plain that.
I'm based in Vancouver and I've always put off visiting the islands just because of how expensive the ferry is (especially going with a car). Might consider taking the bus next time! Thanks for sharing!!
Great to see another local travel blogger + UA-camr :)
I highly recommend Victoria. It's definitely worth the visit!
Thank you! Super useful i am heading to Vancouver with friends in Sept and wanted to get advice to get to Victoria..
That's great! Glad I could help :)
Very helpful. Thank you
Thank you this was super helpful
Thank you for this!!!! 👏🏻
Wow!! that's so cool 🐳 Victoria is a beautiful place!!
Victoria is an overrated and overpriced tourist trap shithole!
Thank you I was looking for that
This is the best way to make the trip and most scenic. Of course you can fly but that tends to be quite a bit more expensive. There is the potential to do the trip for less using public transport at both ends of the ferry route, but this involves a lot of walking and may result in your having to stand or wait for a following bus if the one you intend to take is full.
Soo helpful thank you so much!!
You're welcome :)
had no idea about this, thanks
In 2 weeks from today, I get to go on my annual trip to Victoria. 14 more days..... I cannot wait!!
hope you had a great time!!
That was interesting. I'm from New Zealand, so needed to google where Victoria was. I'm now curious to visit!
Hope I didn't have you confusing it for Victoria, Australia, haha :D
That would be one loooooong ferry ride, haha.
🤣
very good video , i plane visit to Vancouver next year and my wife want to see Butchart garden in Victoria
Wow, best video so far about this trip. Thanks. Is returning to Vancouver the same thing? Go to the bus station and catch the same bus, right?
Thanks for sharing. ...
Can't wait for your Victoria vlogs, as I've never been but I've become obsessed with Canada lately. You and your girlfriend are super cute together! I like the idea of taking the ferry vs a plane. Seems more adventurous. Plus maybe others will get lucky enough to see some killer whales too 🤗
Canada is beautiful. Looks like ferry is the way to travel
Love the ferry ride
Wow this was incredibly useful! Thank you for the advice :)
Very useful video with a clear explanation.
And that whale must have been amazing to see.
It was a real thrill.... we actually did a whale watching tour in Vic, so it wasn't the only one we saw. But to see it unexpectedly from the ferry was just awesome :)
Great video! Love it! Where did you stay in Victoria? Would you tell me how much it cost per night please?
This is very helpful for everyone making that trip! Very detailed information. I've never been to Canada before and through these vlogs and other stunning videos, I can see this is a choice destination. Would you be able to see the northern lights from BC?
Thanks Christer! I'm happy to share my country with you :)
You can see the northern lights from BC, though usually only the north part of the province. But actually just last month there was a rare event when they could be seen right from Vancouver!!
As they said, you’re able to see the northern lights in the northern part of the province. Though, on the **extremely** rare occasion, you might have a chance of viewing them in Vancouver.
do a ferry trip from Port Hardy to Prince Rupert...it is a fantastic trip.
You also could take the transit buses from any where in Metro Vancouver to any Ferry terminal, The walk’ on the Ferry , On the other side walk off the Ferry and a Victoria metro Transit Bus will be on the other side to take you Downtown or transfer to other parts of Victoria, Even cheaper
Absolutely great advice this video. When I went I did an organized day tour and we did take the ferry to go. I did splurge on the helicopter ride back from Victoria to Vancouver. Too cool about seeing a killer whale. I just got back from Tadoussac QC and we did a whale zodiac tour but saw smaller ones.
+Evelyne at CulturEatz I had no idea Quebec had whale tours! Very cool :)
Thank you so much
Do you have any video during the Autum in Vancouver or Victoria Garden? thax.
Thank you this is a very helpful information. It's ours first time to vicit victoria & will book through BC Ferries. So do i choose Victoria Bus depot as a drop off location? We only want to go to the BC parliament & fisherman's wharf. Which drop off should be the easiest? Thanks a lot!
great video 👌
Thank you for very helpful tips ! Doesn’t look like we need to rent a car to get to ferry and to go around Victoria sightseeing ?
Hi. Congratulations, help me a lot! I looked on the website, and I only saw a timetable leaving at 9am and returning at 3:30pm.
Do you know if it's just this one?
Good share bro.. I subscribed your lovely channel.. Kudos (y)
Will be in Vancouver soon and want to go to Victoria! Can we drive or is the Ferry the only way?
2 questions.
How much time does the entire trip take?
secondly, Is it possible to come back the same day via same bus/ferry?
The ferry ride itself is about an hour and 45 minutes. Drive time; add about an hour, depending on the time of day. Ferries run daily about every two hour there is a sailing from either Vancouver and Victoria.
very nice video bro
hello how did you get to pacific central? is there a bus going there direct from airport?
The BC Connector costs more 56$ per person while the ferry itself is 17.4 per person. Assuming that Vancouver residents can take public transport to get to the ferries in Vancouver and that would cost nothing if you have a student pass/monthly pass, Do you think it still is worth the money if we want to do a Victoria trip on a budget? I mean, we can not use our pass for public transport in Victoria, yea? so we need to pay for the bus/public transport when we get off the ferry to get to Victoria, Do you know how much that would cost?
Could you tell me how to buy ticket online and made the reservation ?
How much is the round trip ticket per person ?
Thanks for video.
Could you tell me how long it took station to station.
About three and a half hours.
how do you buy tickets from vancouver to swartz bay
Was there wifi on the ferry?
V2V ferries - The Best 👍, real downtown Vancouver to Victoria downtown
That was VERY helpful, thank you. Now to make it a bit harder for you --- :-) --- , how can one go to NANAIMO from Vancouver? I could not find dual ticket info. Thanks.
Thanks Loco :) I've actually never been to Nanaimo, but that's a good video idea. I'll have to add it to my future travel plans!
Please do. Thanks.
@Mish S Considering Nanaimo is on the island, are you sure you *just* have to go to the ferry terminal in Horseshoe Bay?
Hi my name is sheree I am going to Victoria this Short week for 3 Days. I and I would to do a video Likes this was amazing and it helped me to understand the bus that you wher talking a bout Do you have to phone the Bc ferry connector to GEt the your reservation ?? Thanks for your time
Hi thanks! You can learn more about the buses at www.bcfconnector.com/
Man, this helps a lot. Do you know how to go from Port Angeles to Victoria, and from Victoria to Vancouver, please?
I'm Brazilian and I'm planning a trip to those places. Thanks in advance.
+Douglax Silvestre Victoria to Vancouver can be done with the same bc connector trip, taking opposite steps as the video shows
Thank you for the video, I only have one question, how much did it cost? The bus and ferry transportation in total... I am planning to visit Vancouver next month and it would be nice to also visit Victoria. Thanks!
Great question Roberto! I believe it varies on weekdays / weekends and stuff like that, so I can't say for sure. But you're probably looking at $60 - $70 CAD
HI Roberto, Dan is right, it is $66.80 CDN including ferry, bus and taxes for each adult. Price is the same every day and this is for bus station to bus station. If you want to travel from YVR or to YVR from Victoria, it is a bit more.
Help!!! I think I just saw the bus drive by!!! This is so confusing!!!
Lol - the happy faces XD That was very informative & awesome that you saw a killer whale! Hope that you enjoyed Downtown Victoria
We had a great time in Victoria, thanks :)
I'm coming from Victoria to Vancouver today
The sky is still pretty hazy from the forest fires. Other than that the weather is good, hope you enjoy ;)
wow you travel so much. I m gonna work 2 jobs so i can save up money too
What is the cheapest mode of travel inside Canada from one city to another
It depends on many things, cities you are travelling between, time of booking, etc.
Super useful. Sign me up for some whale watching !!
You didn't mention the price per head
do you think a day is enough to go from Vancouver downtown to Victoria downtown and same day to come back to Vancouver?
No
@@davidclark6749 whatever
@jessica bunami If you want more a detailed answer: A single day to travel from Vancouver and Victoria and back isn’t the best idea if you wanted to take a slower pace. I’d say approximately 2 or 3 days at the minimum to enjoy Victoria alone.
How much round trip, and duration of the trip?
$140 one way. Rip off. Public bus is $30
Cost me $30 to get from Vancouver airport to down town Victoria. Sky train. Bus to fairy. Then another bus when you get off the fairy. All I had was a backpack.
Fairy ???? Lol
MERCI
really nice and useful video! Thay ferry looks amazing and you're so lucky that you've seen a killer whale! :)
Looks a good an efficient ferry, great views and the whales! Shame about the bloke with the guitar at 2:08!
Haha why is it a shame? He was having a good time
Why didn't you just take the city bus to the BC ferries it would have much cheaper and if you are a senior then ferry is free on Monday to Thursday
Cheap and easy?
Interesting that despite the title there is no mention how much is it. Yes, I can check using google and website, but a bit disappointing that after watching pretty pictures for about 5 minutes I was as clueless about price as before - MSM style.
He didnt say how much this cost.
Expo “Subway” line just sounds wrong.
Packed full of great information and a killer whale sighting!
:)
pretty good tips. the next time we go to Vancouver we'll go to Victoria. cool that you got to see killer whales.
Thanks Tony - do you have any plans to visit Canada this year? It would be cool to meet up some day!
last year we thought about going this summer. but instead we're going to Utah....bit mistake, i thought the weather is going to be good, but it's like nearly 100 degrees there now.
Wow! Well I know you and your family travel a lot, so I'm sure you'll be back here again one day :)
140 dollars one way ? No, thank you !
Just booked this and it was $168 for 2 people, including the ferry and a pick up from our hotel.
your loss!
@@_cb336 pick up via uber? or are you referring to the bus?
2:40 ORCA!!!!
rippa vid mate
lol if you google it, you can find direct instructions, i think its just you that got lost
way too expensive...very cheap publuc bus from Bridgepoint station on Canada Line in Vancouver...cheap public bus to ferry...walk on and same public bus from Schwartz Bay to downtown Vixtoria...this service you took is a complete rip off
Good point, however, Translink only runs in Metro Vancouver whilst, the service in Victoria is served by BCTransit.
Vancouver, bc
"Subway line"
😑
From downtown Vancouver the Expo line is largely underground until it passed Stadium to Main Street so from his perspective it’s an underground trip that pops up above ground - he did say from downtown Vancouver.
You should have listed the time of year you went, the time of day you went, and the price. Other than that good video.
gees why not drive?
Your getting rip off buddy. Go by foot passenger you only paid less 17 dollars one way for adult. Both Vancouver and Victoria transits both both ferry terminals and yes can send a day and come back the same day. Did this hundreds of times even at times come back same day.
Bro, just break in
60 bucks :(
Oh, things are not as rosy and cute beneath the surface propaganda. You will find a lot of dark stuff when you dig a little deeper.
Oh, nothing is cheap anymore. It is an inflation thing.
Doesn’t exist anymore
Really? That's too bad!
>"Cheap and easy"
>$140 one way
Fuck me. If I'm going to spend that kind of money I might as well just take the V2V ferry and skip the bus ride altogether...
