The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

3 thumbs down? They obviously just don’t get it and don’t understand. One of the more poignant and heartfelt performances in history performed by our country’s greatest musician/artist.
That's the first thing I noticed... What the heck!
People just miss the button sometimes, count them as ups.
our country’s greatest musician/artist. So true.
I'm so glad that they found this old lost clip from the Ed Sullivan Show. What a treat!
A master showman! He starts out subtle and then blows us away with his trumpet! A true legend!
When you think about what Stephen Foster did as America's first pop star, appropriating "plantation melodies" back when sheet music was how music became popular, Louis' reclamation of this gorgeous non-plantation melody -- sincere, reverent, tender, then swinging the living hell out of it -- becomers that much more beautiful and profound. Thanks so much for posting!
Fantastic !!!! I have an endless admiration for Louis Armstrong, one of the greatest musicians ever ! A true musical genius !
Didn't think I'd see Louis sing and play "Beautiful Dreamer"! I would love to see Teresa Brewer sing "Teardrops in My Heart" from this episode.
He had so much class we don’t see today so much perfection on a beautiful song
Studio lights must have been super hot. But He nails this!
The greatest of them all!!!
Just can't say it enough this man is my favorite singer to listen to when ever I feel down his voice is full of joy n his trumpet just add more grace. The world needs a Louie now and days.
A legend! Perfection!
Beautiful Satchmo
Wow! A beautiful vocal and stunning trumpet solo.
Taking quintessential American songwriter of the 19th Century and tying it to his 20th, what a brilliant idea.
Jadore. 👍👏👏👏👏🙋♀️
So great, a very soulful vocal follower by the most commanding and beautiful trumpet solo. Truly a great performance of a song Louis only performed this once. I had the honour of seeing this at the Louis Armstrong archives in Queens, thanks to Ricky Riccardi, but so happy that it's online now for everyone to enjoy.
Love it! Thanks Louie.
This guy had heart. He loved what he did and it showed.
I strongly agree.
Oh Louie...
Fantástico!
This was the same day Paul and John from the Beatles met
Beautiful Dreamer, wake unto me,
Starlight and dewdrops are waiting for thee;
Sounds of the rude world heard in the day,
Lull'd by the moonlight have all passed away!
Beautiful dreamer, queen of my song,
List while I woo thee with soft melody;
Gone are the cares of life's busy throng
Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!
Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!
Beautiful dreamer, out on the sea,
Mermaids are chanting the wild Lorelei;
Over the stream let vapors are borne,
Waiting to fade at the bright coming morn.
Beautiful dreamer, beam on my heart,
E'en as the morn on the stream let and sea;
Then will all clouds of sorrow depart,
Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!
Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me!
Great trumpet player!
Very happy, and yet wonderfully moving at the same time.
Please also show a video of Louis Armstrong performing his signature song "What a Wonderful World" live at The Ed Sullivan Show.
😯Wow! What a performance!
You got to love this guy!
RIP Lois Armstrong 🙏
TCM ran approximately 10 hours of Louis Armstrong movies yesterday. Very enjoyable. His life story was a bag of mixed feelings for me.
This is... time travel
Wow. Just wow.

Pops is the greatest of all time. ❤

WOW! Amazing. Love it!
CAN MAN BE SO GREAT!!!GOD!!
Amo esse cantor
Stunning as always,
Never-had the world's most pleasant-voice to listen-to but it was his trademark-voice, unique to himself & instantly-recognizable. Perfectly-fine but I prefer hearing him sing in small, limited-doses. His playing, of course, is everything, which clearly is beyond-brilliant here!
Boy , I just adore this majestic man alongside his unique masculine voice.
POPS!!
This is amazing
Imagine an African-American artist covering Stephen Foster today, Unfathomable.
He roo smooth on dis one 😭😭😭I love it
Nobody could touch Satchmo.
Wooohoooo!!! Rewind time!!! 😭😅🤣☘️🌄
Tv was largely white then but Louie or Sammy would appear and light up America saying we also Make America Great!
