When Joe describes who the Clampetts are, he mentions Cousin Pearl, who was played by Bea Benaderet ... aka Kate Bradley! And later, Granny comments that Kate and Pearl are lookalikes.
This is the first time I got to see the draw back shot of the Shady Rest in the intros. Looks more like a mansion than a motel. The documentary I just saw on this show was outstanding. Watch that if you can.
Great episode. The dog is spectacular. What talent. His owner and trainer Frank Inn did wonders with that highly intelligent dog whose name off screen was Higgins. Irene Ryan was awesome as Granny. So sad without the character Kate on the show because Bea Benaderet passed away from lung cancer.
Granny played this one good I remember when I was younger and seeing this episode and going holy cow it's Granny from the heavierly hillbillies thank you for putting a smile on my face tonight
I never heard that intro before. The original one and the one with Janet i've heard, but I don't ever remember hearing this one.... or even seeing the hotel the way it showed it
Bea Benaderet had left the series because she developed cancer in 1968. She died during the sixth season of the series on October 18th, 1968. Edgar Buchanan assumed the starring role at the episode. But the series was never the same. The series was starting get in ratings trouble and that was the episode where "Granny" of the Beverly Hillbillies was brought in as a cross-promotion.
Dr Barry Cohn PETTICOAT JUNCTIONS relatives were kind to the BEVERLY HILLBILLIES. GREEN ACRES! is the next area down the tracks from Petticoat Junction!
I'm sure it was hard on the writers to explain Kate's disappearance. It would have been very special to see Kate and the baby interact. It's too bad that they couldn't have gotten Rosemary Decamp to continue with the series. She was a good substitute for Kate the season before.
Uncle Joe (of Granny): "She's a relative of a Jed Clampett, whose Cousin Pearl is a distant kin of your mother's from way back..." I need to save this info.
Well, in those days, a main character dying was almost unheard of, so they probably handled it the way they felt was best. Of course, they would've been more direct about it if it happened now. Sadly, she was the heart of the show and it just wasn't quite the same without her.
Sad to see the updated opening without Bea in it and with updated vocals. They should have been honest and covered the death of Kate right away instead of hinting at it much later.
In Green Acres, I seem to remember that Hooterville is not too far out of New York. Yet in Petticoat Junction and Beverly Hillbillies, it appears to be down south.
THEY REMOVED KATE BRADLEY'S CH ARACTER WHEN BEA B ENEDERET DIED.NEVER EVEN MENTI ONED HER CHARACTER FOR THE REST OF THE SERIES.IT'S SPOOKY.NO KATE NO EXPLANATION.
@13:07...Why would a dedicated mother like Kate Bradley leave town right after her first grandchild was born? I know they didn't talk about death on TV in those days, but couldn't they have come up with a better premise?
Yes I know. In fact I have long known the details. It's just the premise they used to "explain away her departure" that made me think they could have done a better job.
EXACTLY Clarence! It was ok for everyone to know that Charlie died, but not Kate? And Charlie died in an EARLIER season. It should have been the other away around.
Well, to be fair, there hadn't been many instances where the star of the show died in the middle of the season, though they definitely could've handled it better. However, since it was a comedy, maybe they didn't want to make it too depressing.
@@shadowstarz3651 Everyone knew the day was coming. Even the executive producers should have seen the handwriting on the wall. You can't take cancer for granted.
This is from and original 16 mm film print, right before digital technology and satellite delivery came for syndication use. And Irene Ryan as Granny from The Beverly Hillbillies not Beverly Hills,90210 appears. And now CBS Television Distribution surely has rights, to distribute Petticoat Junction The Beverly Hillbillies and Beverly Hills, 90210, as it is only in syndicated reruns.
I use to laugh at how over dressed everyone was....the girls always dressed in hills and starched blouses and looked more like they were ready to go down town to the big city...........
Thank you so much for putting this episode back on. It needs to live on for the next generation. It’s good wholesome TV
❤️ this song& tv show
Bobbi Jo (Lori Saunders) was a true beauty. The show downplayed her beauty. In rare exception, this episode showcases her legs and lovely figure.
Benji in the bassinet? How Adorable
This was a transitional episode . Bea may have passed by then, and June was not in the cast yet. Irene Ryan filled the void well as Granny.
I wish they'd put this entire show on streaming.
I have watched this TV show always have love it thank you for putting this show back on again thank you for putting it back on
Since Bea wasn't in the.oprning she'd passed by then and they brought in Grranny
It's. A. Sweet. Baby. For. Sure!!

Paul Henning was genius.
This is the second episode out of three and the only one that was on Petticoat Junction

Where is the documentary available to watch?
You will need to Google it to find it.@@weilruss1
I remember watchin this show in the 1960s wen i was a wee lad
@19:24...Sadly, l guess most people knew by that time that "Kate" would not return.
And Arnold the Pig too
The beginning of the sexy nurse Halloween costume
Ya i wish Lori Saunders was my nurse,I'd perk up right up pretty quick- what a babe 😍😋❤💋

This was a gap between when Bea Benaderet died and June Lockhart joined the series.
@@kevinvanmeter2264 l think Bea was diagnosed in '67. She had premonitions earlier on when x-rays denoted a spot on her lungs.
This was the interim between Bea Bendaret's death and June Lockhart joining the series. Think it was only in like 3 or 4 episodes.
Back when the term in the family way...
TY TY for putting cousin pearl in being related to Kate....always wondered what the clampetts would hv said meeting Kate :):)
Love the crossover of shows.

Looks like covid before we had it
Betty Jo calls the baby Katie near the end ..not Kathy Jo
YES!
That's because she couldn't make up her mind which one to name her
10:07 Uncle Joe meets Granny!

Benji was a smart dog.

One of the best episodes of the series!

I agree everyone knew Bea had died but they didn't do things that way then

Bea died of lung cancer in 1968. The show ran from 1963-1972. She felt too ill to perform on this episode.
Yes I know. In fact I have long known the details. It's just the premise they used to "explain away her departure" that made me think they could have done a better job.

Unless cover existed then, it was stupid for them to wear masks and act like germ freaks. Granny can't tell the difference between a dog and a baby?

Oh shoot, I was really hoping it would be Irene Ryan as Granny from Beverly Hills 90210!!!
Did they have Covid back then?

What...we get to see the Filmways logo...Amazing!
Black and white is much more preferable. Not liking this cast! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! End of best show on television 🥲🥲
They ruined ALL the great 50's and 60's shows by putting them in color!
