- This video sees Lisa and I attend the Glastonbury Festival. I have documented some of the highlights from the 5 days that we were there and included many of the acts and shows we saw. Even 5 days isn't enough to catch everything Glastonbury has to offer but I hope this videos gives you a good taste of how great and grand the festival is. During the course of the festival we caught acts like, Lionel Richie, Florence & The Machine, Mark Ronson, The Who, Ben Howard, James Bay, Paul Weller, The Proclaimers, Motörhead and even the rather disappointing Kanye West who officially has the worlds biggest ego. My partner Lisa was even interviewed twice by the BBC :-) Where else in the world can you sing happy birthday to the Dalai Lama, Appear on TV, See a robotic spider spitting flames, Dance to Acid House with Bez from the Happy Monday's, See Kryten from Red Dwarf and witness some of the best acts on the planets in just 24 hours :-) Roll on next year

Fantastic Dean! Never been here, totally not what I expected it to be having only ever watched clips on TV with folk up to their necks in mud. Never realised so much went on there, really enjoyed the footage. That guy Jolly Jock was married to a school friend, sadly he passed away last year. Lisa was really good in the interviews. mate you missed the best part about glastonbury, staying up in some remote dance tent until 6am, then going back so fucked up on a cocktail of drugs you cant sleep until 9
I've saved that footage for the directors cut :-) haha
I swear between the hours of 4-7am is the best part of Glastonbury

Nice one Dean. Between about 1990 and 2005 I went something like 10 times. We always camped in the same place. Each year we met up with the same 30+ people from all over the country & world, it was our yearly catch-up. Some of the best bits/memories were the late night/early morning camp fires. As it got bigger and bigger over the years it ended up we couldn't do any of that anymore ... someone actually pitched a tent over our recently put out fire one year ... with the expected result.
We couldn't even camp all together by our last visit and that somewhat killed us wanting to go again.

Thanks for watching Mark, one of the guys I work with echoed your thoughts. He preferred it before it went huge, he said it became manic once people starting jumping the fences and it was just too busy in the early 2000s. They restricted the numbers further I do believe this year so it didn't feel too bad this time. We pitched the tent in a way that left us reasonable space but not enough for others to pitch between us :-)
Yeah it sounded like they had dropped the numbers from when I went last. I'm sure it was 175,000+ the last time. It was just crazy. It was even crowded on the Weds & Thurs which always use to be the two days you chilled out, caught up with old friends & prepared for the madness to follow.
I think you did a great job of capturing the spirit of 5 days in less than 30 mins.
Has your better half got an agent yet after all her TV interviews ;)

Lisa will no doubt be taking over my channel soon :-) really was a great honour to see the Dalai Lama, we didn't get notified where he was going to talk until an hour or so before via the Glastonbury Twitter account, I would have been gutted if we had missed him

Every five seconds or so , I'm reminded of something I loved about last year's festival; random people you meet, random performers you find, unforgettable headliners (the truly awesome AND the truly awful), the green fields, the stone circle, shangri-la being packed, the heat that comes from Arcadia as it shoots flames into the air, the drugs, the food, the drinking, the dancing, the friends, the family, finding mates out of nowhere at 2 in the morning, waking up next to the big sign at the top of the hill with no idea how you got there, making friends with the staff, getting into trouble with the staff, laughing in the afternoon, smiling at night...fuck...now June can't come any faster. Hope the resale was as good to you as it was for us.
+Baj it's such an amazing place and the vibe and friendly nature of everyone there makes it for me. I could happily just spend the whole 5 days wandering round and it wouldn't bother me who was on the main stages... So gutted we didn't get tickets for 2016. Thanks for watching Baj

great video and i really got a sense of the place especially in the shots from the first couple of days before it all really kicks off.
alas I already decided about 15 odd years ago I wouldnt be doing Glastonbury anymore after my thoughts on what it has become. My memories are of Glastonbury are of yonder years with hawkwind,hippies, the convoy, and of course sneaking in for free in the early hours. In fact your vid bought some of that excitement and feeling of freedom flooding back. much more than we see on BBC even though I am grateful for their great coverage of the bands. so yeah, thanks.
What a smashing video Dean,,, seen bits on TV before but this gave a much more insight into what Glastonbury is all about, most of the performers names I have never heard of, but for instance the chap from scrap heap challenge sounded very interesting ,,,and it looked as if there were many such interesting stalls and stands and some amazing works of art,,,, and it really gave a much more rounded view and captured the shear scale of the festival ,,,,and to have captured the Dalai Lama then thats got to be a moment to cherish ,,,, an all round real eye opener and so informative,, Nice to see your finally coming to realize that Lisa is the one the camera can not turn away from,,,( I look forward to the Lisa Read Channel ) Great video ,,,,, many thanks ,,,,,, Alan

Dean, sorry you didn't get tickets in the resale! I've not failed in the last 10 years partly because there's a huge gang of us all trying at the same time. It's like a military operation, superbly co-ordinated. Next year send me your reg details and I'll add you to our list. it's the least I can do for providing us with such a brilliant video

Couple of our party got tickets in the secret resale a fortnight before. He's an IT guru and set an alert for when the page changed! Lionel was certainly a highlight of the 7 years I've been. d:-)
Dan Greenley Lionel was great, he certainly got the crowd going :-) I particularly enjoyed "Shrinal Richie" and the attention to detail they put in.... That's what I love about Glastonbury, the attention to detail throughout the festival is amazing.... I don't think I can watch the TV coverage of 2016 as I'll be way too jealous I think, I'm going to hide under a rock I think or up a mountain :-)

Far better than any of the "news" coverage I saw coming out of the festival. I was relieved early on to see you weren't in totally uncivilized surroundings when you went by a Cornish pasty shop. Now that Lisa has done two BBC interviews, I think she can qualify as a "media pundit" or TV analyst for the panel shows -- "cultural critic" perhaps?
Lisa doesn't drink or do any mind altering substances so she could be the BBC's compos mentis festival correspondent :-) I drink too much coffee to think straight at the best of times haha. Thanks for watching mate

Great video - I missed the chance to goto Glasto in the 90's - I don't feel the need to go now - Belladrum Festival is a small Scottish version of it and does the job for me each year. That said, there is something different about Glastonbury and your video does a great job of capturing it. Hope you are enjoying OZ
There have been rumours the festival is moving to a new location. What can you say about that?
The deal on the year off is we're planning a show - another event - somewhere nearby. It's either going to be in 2018 or 2019. It's going to be the whole team behind the Glastonbury Festival but it's not going to be called Glastonbury.
The idea [is to plan] an event which is more of a visual feast, something really spectacular, using all of these incredible creative people that we work with all year. That's an idea that really excites us.
So will it be more of an immersive experience than a music festival?
It will be a music festival predominantly but it will have other elements which we already do at Glastonbury. There'll be more, larger-scale installations, as well as music.
You know, we work with these artists all year, but we're always confined by the same hedgerows. The idea of doing it somewhere else, where you've got a huge, vast space is hugely exciting.
its on my things to do before I die list going to Glastonbury, i've done a few festivals, Leeds, Isle Of Wight, V fest many times, Global Gathering but there's something about Glasto that I really want to experience, thanks for sharing Dean

It was a pleasure to watch your vid, you Just let allot speak for itself! I find less is more with these vids, so many people think they have to fill it with commentary, so nice one Dean.:) I haven't been since 2002 and first 1 in 1998 so thought I would watch a few vids to catch up on things, Im performing there this time so should be another interesting perspective of, what I remember being, a show of other worldlyness (I just remember reality just stopped for 4 days) be interesting to experience it now, shame pulp arnt going to be there but I can reminisce on Fat boy and cold play ;) Maybe see you there in future years or at the new festie they are going to put on, I would like to get involved in that one, have you heard about it?

I have watched a few other videos from Glastonbury over the years so I thought I would make mine more about the atmosphere. I can waffle on for hours but I didn't think it needed it so I cut a bit of it out :-)

Ah yes the stone circle great to get up high (ish) and just go wow im apart of that etc and chill a little. But they are not moving altogether just in a rest year, going to put on another show "without hedgerows" so not so limited, want to make it more arts based but still with music, still going to be local. looks like its going to happen in 2018/19. Could be interesting as in ; "anything could happen in the next moment" kind of thing;) I think people really like that about festies. Have you been to Port Elliot festie in st germans Cornwall (end of august) . Its only small but great location and really well put together? I recommend it if you want a bit of a glasto fix but on a river and some woods. Many lagit ways of getting in as well.

WyeExplorer when in Asia my friend Ray and I witnessed a spectacular sunrise through the door of a Buddhist temple. I'd been reading up on Buddhism in the months leading up to it and that moment as we stood there whilst the monks meditated behind us was a mini awakening for me. i managed to get tickets on the first sale and have been planning all of this (including the debt)
it's gonna be an interesting month of vacation in london, then finish with glastonbury
for now i would appreciate any advices for a glasto rookie like i am lol, the only band i MUST see is Radiohead (in the front row if possible), and then i'm planning on letting myself go

Great video, will be going next year for the 4th consecutive time. I'd recommend volunteering for oxfam next year seeing as you didn't get tickets. I did it in 2014 and you see the festival in a completely different way but it's just as good as attending normally. It would make for a great vlog too, as there aren't many videos showing "behind the scenes" of glasto. Then again, theres always the resale!
I'd be interested in seeing the other side of the festival too so it might be an option to explore. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great time next year, fingers crossed we'll get lucky in the resale
