I agree with the others who commented. You are a true artist in so many unique ways. It's not all about pleasing others and giving them what they want, it's more about showing and sharing the world, your world, through your artistic eyes, which makes your videos so uniquely special, and quite interestingly different than any other gardening channel. You have a lot to offer, and it's best to just be yourself. You may not always know what a difference you make, although I have no doubt that you and your ways will affect people and cause them to think, grow and change, slowly and surely.

Truthfully; It's not really your specific content so much as it is the way you present it. It is your obvious passion, coupled with your genuine desire to give that passion to others that has kept me patiently watching and waiting for another offering from you to arrive.
I suppose it might sound corny but you are the reason I watch your videos with such delight. It is not everyone who can lay their soul out in front of an audience the way you do with such obvious pleasure. Your openness deserves recognition.
Thanks for doing what you do.
    Incidentally; the garden looks incredible!

I’m new to your channel and I realize this request for feedback is a few months old. I did have an idea: I’m very interested in the way you talk about the design elements of a beautiful, interesting, intriguing garden. I would love to see you walk through other gardens and point out the design elements that work well and why they work -layout, materials, plant choices, sound, etc. The way you tie in art and history and a sense of place into gardens makes a lot of sense to me. My goal would be to try to take that learning to my own backyard garden design. I really enjoy seeing your own gardens and I especially appreciate the perspective of how they mature over time. In addition to that I’d also love to hear your thoughts on other either public or private parks and gardens. Maybe, “here is a spot that I love and let me tell you why it works and what I see happening here.”

I find the documentaries fascinating personally. I like that you go between history and your own plants instead of just one or the other. They're beautifully researched and shot. As much as I love gardening and your personal gardening experience, I do feel like having specific subject videos show exactly what parts you feel are most interesting or important. It gives a lot of insight into your personal interests and philosophies which is always interesting for me. I enjoy seeing what people feel are the most impactful things in their view. I find your videos restful and beautifully shot. No matter what you go with I think it will be a success.

Thanks for the thoughtful response, Holly. You are probably my core target audience that understands the unconventional approach I'm going for. I concur that the mix of personal and public, macro and micro is what gives these videos a differential. Showing my personality through them, which is naturally pensive may be what brings people like you to cherish the content. I don't know how compatible it is to bigger audiences, but I'm trying. Thank you so much for watching and for sharing your reaction.

I enjoy your videos for the beauty in the animations and in general. There is a calmness that isn't in a hurry to stuff as much stuff as possible but rather invites tangents to the story.
UA-cam is full of videos with tips. I prefere your magical storytelling much more. The amount of love and care you put into your videos oozes out through the screen and is probably the best thing about them.

Thank you. This is what I suspect the core viewers of the channel prefer as well. I wish I could make those complex videos a bit more often (at least once a month) but I may have to do them a bit shorter, and still hold on to the relaxing pace. I'm always worried about the tangent, that are not 100% essential to the story, but they provide color. I'll see if I can find a happy middle that works, even if I have to cut back a bit on the animations :-(

Yes, longer documentaries! But also the shorts. I like seeinf how you have changed from using plastics, but at the same time not wasting them but using til they naturally expire. And I like seeing the practical steps of soaking, planting, up-potting, and hardening off, while you tell some history or legend from another time, place and/or culture. Then the planting out takes on more meaning than just my efforts. And I feel a part of the stream of human history.

I've watched countless gardening/agri/horti videos, and honestly....not everyone who has access to a cam and internet should be posting. YOUR content has value all in education, videography and and narration.
That being said, the cottage garden is what I am striving to accomplish in my front area since words cannot begin to describe my disgust with wasted time, energy and petrol for mowing.

I'm glad you are what you are and always excited to see that you've put forth another wonderful work of art for me to wonder at.

I'm happy to hear you understand my odd way of building a "gardening video." I whole heartedly agree with you that there are several great UA-cam friends who do a phenomenal job with practical and to the point videos. I feel that if I did it that way it would fall flat. Hello Siloe! I'm so glad to see you posted again. It was nice to see your first garden, it's beautiful.
To answer your questions - I absolutely loved your in depth documentary style productions. You Tube is full of gardening videos but your new approach is quite unique and different, I haven't seen anyone else talk about vegetables in that way. I honestly believe you deserve millions of views.

I don't mind that those videos are long, I happily absorb the information and appreciate all the research you put into it.

I like how your podcasts are ever-changing, and I appreciate the historical, in-depth ride you are taking us on right now. When the process is no longer fun for you, it will be time to move in a new direction. The stories you present, such as the man who took salads on the road, stay lodged in my memory. More so than the scientific information, and that surprises me. I like the familiar aspects that pop up in your videos such as the outdoor plant cages, germination station and food preparation details. It helps to keep the plot moving. I am not very technical, and much of your care and work with graphics and puppetry probably goes over my head, but catches my attention and is unique. I do miss your songs, and your previous garden. Alright this may be a long comment so bear with me lol you asked for my opinion and I'm happy to oblige! To give you a reference, UA-cam let me know you exsited back when you made the "Crazy New Tomato Growing in my Garden..." video which was three years ago and I've been watching ever since. What made me stay was how unique you were from the rest of the gardeners that I've subcribed to and watched on this platform, and if I could describe you to a stranger I would tell them it was like time traveling back in time and watching someone tend to their plot from another era. It's just the way you speak and carry yourself, your sense of fashion, the way you upkeep you're home and your choice of recipes from the food growing out of your garden that give me thoes vibes and I'm all here for it.. I've convinced myself that I've found a gem and I feel blessed! I watched you in the beginning (not only because of what I already mentioned above) because you gave me inspiration to keep going in my own garden. I was about to give up because I was facing too many mold problem and bug issues and the hard work that I've created to just all be destroyed made me sad.. But seeing you go through it too didn't make me feel alone, and the way you addressed the issues with such a calm manner gave me hope and I told myself well if he could do it then so can I! All the content you produce.. The mini documentaries, the history and tips on certain vegetables, the recipes, you're music and just updates on your garden are gold because you're in them. YOU and your brilliant mind is what makes this so patiable, informative and entertaining and I'm sure the rest of your subscribers are thinking it too. So keep the videos coming whatever it is, I'm willing to be patient and wait until the next time you upload because I know they will be worth it.

The documentary style gives your channel a unique twist that you don't find elsewhere. I honestly wouldn't change any of them, I like the animations, you growing it, your talking. I really enjoy learning the connection to history of what I'm growing. I also try to do a mix of cottage gardening, vegetable gardening, cooking and preserving. So I love the mix of videos. I think alot of us do these things to be connected to history as well as nature when homesteading. Great listening to and watching your videos!

I love both your older videos and the newer documentary style videos. Learning about veggies from your in-depth videos has been a joy and absolutely fascinating. But, I also love the shorter videos showing how you develop your garden. Your love of gardening is contagious and the joy gardening gives you is apparently in everything you make, whether it be because of the hard work you put into a long video or the love you put into making a recipe with your harvest. As for practicality ... well, there are a million gardening how-to channels all focused on quick and practical information. While I appreciate it when you give direction about how to best grow certain seeds, I also want to see the magic, joy and wildness. It's like a cottage garden - there's a foundation of practicality, but the results are a breath taking wilderness.
All that said, if I had to choose (i.e., you were only willing to do one or the other), the longer documentary style videos are stunning and captivating. Is it possible to mix things up a bit? Either do a mix of the documentary style videos and garden updates? Or, even do a mix in terms of how in-depth you are (i.e., shorter educational videos)?
Either way, I'll keep watching. I don't have a garden (apartment dweller without a balcony) and it brings me so much joy when I can live vicariously through you. You make gardening seem both magical and attainable, which gives me hope for when I'm finally able to have a balcony or outdoor space.

Thanks Anne. I'm glad that you can garden vicariously through the videos. Part of my goal has to provide a place of escape to those yearning for nature. Yes, I might do a mixed approach, perhaps shorter documentaries and a few videos on garden design wouldn't hurt, as I'm working to build my larger garden into something closer to this old garden. Thank you so much for sharing your thought and giving me great insight and practical tips!

Being interactive is why most people are watching UA-cam instead of TV
We want to see what we want to see and we have so many options
As a creator you need to choose what your passionate about so it doesn't come off boring like reading from a book

One of the things I love about you is that you're different from everyone else. You have so much to offer. I love the documentary style AND the short videos. Thanks Sharon. I really wish I could disregard the algorithm, and to an extent I can, because this is not my main job, but more and more, if you don't do what the algorithm wants (especially frequency of upload and addictive uploads) it just stops showing the video even to people like you who loves the videos. My hope is that people truly enjoy the videos enough to return every so often to check new uploads. But that is like swimming against a current.

I loved your lessons on cottage garden design, the animation, the horticultural science, your growing tips, the myths and fables around plants, the history and social impact of plants, your style of clothing and your interiors and love of antiques, the care taken in filming the garden, your music, all aspects of your videos are marvelous. Most vloggers do not plan as much as you do and seem to be ad libbing and those types of videos get very tired, the sort of thing with hasty rapid fire up beat speech, garden tours and the gardener tasting the fruits on camera ..but then again it is obvious that you work a lot harder at making your videos and it has to pay so that you go on doing what you do so well. I hope one day you'll be the most successful garden vlogger in the world.

I enjoyed this very much. I was reminded of my life in Kansas City, MO. where I had issues in the past with my cottage gardening...not from pests, but from neighbors who didn't understand. I still had wide expanses of closely mowed grass. Most people said they simply did not understand , as all they had EVER known ...was turf. I was contacted by the city, -- yet all of their city regulations were being followed, such as 11 feet of roadside mowed clearance, (which actually IS their responsibility to keep mowed, lol ). Most of the neighbors were curiously enchanted with my bounteous garden. I gave tricorn squash as gifts for the "grouches"... These were enourmous, by the way bc I had used a bodkin to thread kite string through their stems which dangled into jars of water. This made these fruits huge. Folks told me they didn't know how to tackle the processing, so I traded cooked and frozen squash. We geared down for moving, and people enquired for details, and for seed, etc. Overall, I think we all gained from it. Blessings !..

So glad to see how the old homestead is doing! I enjoy the documentaries a lot, and watch them more than once and counting ... But I missed seeing how your new homestead is doing. I, for one, could never keep up with a daily/weekly youtube channel, but even a summary of the season later in the year can be both enjoyable and helpful. I tend to miss stuff during the summer, being so busy in my own garden ... but, during the winter, as I get into the nitty gritty planning for next season, it is helpful to be able to watch how others fared the previous season. YOU, in particular, have been the inspiration for many of my gardening practices today ... From planting flowers IN the garden with the vegetables to using twine to fill out trellises -- your challenges with wildlife (and solutions), and so much more! Your artistic point of view is always appreciated -- and I often wonder at all the hours you must put in. Thank you very much for all you do!

Siloé, this new approach you've taken with your videos is so brilliant! Your creativity is above and beyond. You are a true artist and I would describe you as a Renaissance man. I can't pick a favorite part of the videos. I'm someone who really values history and context. I wouldn't want you to omit any of it. I love the way you've combined the history with your personal, practical experience. The folklore is kind of creepy in some ways, but still very interesting! The cultural and global impacts are also hugely important. I discovered your channel last year and really enjoyed it, but must admit that I haven't been keeping up with you this season as I got sucked into an over-focus on current events. i was watching a couple of garden videos looking for inspiration as i haven't had a respectable garden in more years than i care to admit, having had some pretty successful ones over the years. my mother was an urban gardener but more with houseplants as she only had a few window sills and the space under them, so i developed a love of plants and nature thru her. anyhow i was working on some small collages and the videos were just running and here i am. i have to say i am blown away by the content and the style tho i have only watched 2 of them so far. i can only imagine that i will enjoy the rest of them as well, i intend to watch i've subscribed and will get notifications. i don't have any feedback on some of the questions you asked at the end of this video, the ones i've watched i wouldn't change anything. truly enjoyed listening, there is a lot of info tucked in with your narration . looking forward to the other videos. thanks for making them!

The documentaries are actually what brought me to your channel, so I don't have the perspective to compare to your older videos. The history is probably my favorite part of them, but one of things I love is how you weave the different subjects (history, science, culture, gardening/care, food/recipes). It helps with attention burn-out which i sometimes get when watching long information-packed videos when they stay on one complex facet for too long. Also, regardless of which aspect you focus on, your sense of humor shines through in both your scripts and your editing and its delightful!
