"I wonder if its young" the gos is in adult plumage however if you got a good shot of the eye an older falconer could tell you approximately how old it is. And with the skill he got up and down the tree he's been at this a few years.
At first I thought the squirrel was just playing with the goshawk, then it got nailed. That's a beautiful North American goshawk too, real blue on the back. Good photography too. OSH :-)
@@Balta454 Squirrels mock predators all the time. We have them in our yard teasing our dogs, barking at the cats. Falconers send their Red Tailed Hawks after them, the squirrels just run around the trunk of the trees, barking that sounds like they're laughing. But sometimes they get caught and killed.
Wow I have never seen a Goshawk in person; I am in South Central Texas (San Antonio) and they are not into this hot climate. It was a treat to see one in action. What state is this in?

Squirrels are sometimes self-confident, like to play under the enemy's nose.
Believe me when I say that squirrels never play with raptors that can kill them.

Colorado. This was my only time seeing one so they are far from common, but they are also not considered rare when reporting on ebird.

We have a native Hawk in Hawaii , just as rare and similar in looks just a bit smaller 🌴
