A video on a Tuesday?! Yeah! Here is the Poems collection of the romantic Lord Byron from Everyman’s Library (Pocket Poets). I planned this video for tomorrow but there is something else coming tomorrow instead! ;-) I hope you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching! :-)
I have 41 Everyman's Library editions in my library- including literature, history, and several of the Children's Classics series; and ALL of them are SEWEN bindings. I feel for the price and quality, these are the best thing next to Folio Society available.
I was laughing at how dramatic the music is when the camera zooms in on the glued spine. I am heartbroken too especially because Everyman's pocket poets series used to have sewn bindings.
I've seen other people online say that even some of the normal everyman's library editions have glued spines. Have you had any of these yourself? THanks for video
I have heard the same but I don't own any glued editions, thankfully. I know that EL had a run in 2013 were they did indeed make books with glued bindings but have stopped with that now.
How much would you recommend Everyman's Library? I've not got any books from them yet and I'm wondering if they're really worth it; I do like the size to be sure.
I would probably not recommend the pocket poets editions showed in this video at all. But otherwise for the standard EL editions, then I would highly recommend them. They are, in terms of quality relative to price, the best option you can get, imo.
I think the reason I haven't gotten any yet is because I have a bookstore by me that sells practically brand new Folio Society books for dirt cheap lmao. I'm fairly new to collecting books and even reading in earnest but I do want to play the field and see what's available. Thanks!

“There is something pagan in me that I cannot shake off."
― Lord Byron
They used glued binding to save money because it's only around ~250 pages, so there's no high risk of it cracking.

Absolutely.
I agree, and Library of America editions are also supremely made if you get a chance to look at one.
Dramatic music for bookbinding :)
Yes. I love it! Keep that going, Pontus!

It being glued perfect binding is a disappoitment.
Absolutely... especially coming from the Everyman's Library.

I think that Everyman Library should subscribe to your channel! That will keep them honest! :)

If you can find earlier printings with the sewn bindings, then they are definitely worth it,
