Out of the box the game played terrible what I could remember. Haven't played it in ages, but I do remember that the Megadrive version had an 'Original Mode' that allowed the player to build up a better handling bike by means of buying parts, Cut a long story short, I had a password from a tips book that allowed the best bike possible and took the player to the end of the original mode, that in turn allowed the player to crossover and play the arcade mode with the much better handling bike. It was the only way I could play through all 4 tracks as playing it from scratch without a password was as sluggish as it came.

Oh my god, this game! Childhood memories have been succesfully revived! One of my first ever video games. I personally love all 4 songs, but Winning Run is really unbeatable.
Ristar, Ecco the dolphin, Vectorman, Phantasy star trilogy, Sub Terrania, Top gear 2 (better than Snes), Power rangers the movie, Contra hard corps, Alien soldier, Gunstar heroes and Pulseman. And if you want to go in another SEGA consoles or games, Nights into dreams, Virtua fighter, Daytona USA, SEGA Rally, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Yakuza, Shenmue, Space channel 5, Sonic Héroes, Sonic 06 (in fact Sonic had the best sonudtrack of all times), Panzer dragoon. You name it, SEGA deliver. The only other companies who come close to me are SNK and Namco.
I remember that my Mega Drive 2 included 2 controllers Sonic 2 and Mega Games 1 (Super Hang-On, World Cup Italia '90 and Columns). Today a new console usually comes with one controller and that's it. :/
Those soundtracks instantly transport me back to 1990. I still love this game. One of my 3 original Genesis games along with Altered Beast and Ghouls N Ghosts
This was the first arcade racer I ever played on my still fairly new-ish Megadrive back in the day, and it absolutely blew me away. After a solid diet of fairly underwhelming 8-bit arcade racing ports up until that point, this suddenly felt like the closest I'd ever got to something approaching the quality of an arcade machine at home. The awesome soundtrack still gives me a little shiver down my spine even to this day.
@@pliniomsann The Master System port of Hang-On was pretty amazing really, it was the built in game on my SMS. It went at a really good lick of speed. I don't think the MD version of SHO is _much_ slower than the arcade, especially once you've engaged the turbo.

Ending of each stages... Africa stage: The rider gave a peace sign Asia stage: A racing queen came to give him flowers and kiss the rider on the helmet America stage: An old man who was actually the rider for the first Hang-On game appeared while the racing queen kissed the rider on the helmet. Europe stage: the old man appeared to celebrate followed by the racing queen to give the rider a kiss. But the rider took off the helmet to reveal it was a girl all along! Funny how the background scenery and so as the sky always or only change after an high "road climb". By the end of europe stage the other bikers seem to drive in the opposite direction of ours. They seem to come to knock us down instead of going the same direction. Hang on and on. Thanks for sharing.
