  • Join us to learn The Hustle with T.O Hustle Sessions and dance your way through NYE! The Hustle is a partner dance to disco music that was created by Puerto Rican teenagers in South Bronx in the early 1970s. This dance has common features of mambo, salsa and swing dance. The dance is designed to be dynamic and flashy, traditionally with a lead and a follow.
    Bio For NYE Hustle Class:
T.O. Hustle Sessions, founded in late 2014, is an organization dedicated to the practice and education of the partner-dance style 'Hustle' in Toronto. Many of the founding members have been involved in the street dance community for many years before the birth of the collective. Since the beginning, T.O. Hustle Sessions have taught weekly classes, held workshops with guest teachers, hosted parties around the city, and performed at various events.
Hustle was born in New York during the early 70's during the Disco and Funk era, taking inspiration from many other partner dances. Since then, Hustle had made its way into mainstream media with the likes of the song 'Do The Hustle' by Van McCoy, and being featured on Saturday Night Fever starring John Travolta. In more recent times, Hustle has become extremely popular amongst the street dance community being featured in local as well as international battles around North America, Europe, and Asia. With a desire to bring the essence of partner dancing to their community, T.O. Hustle Sessions was created.
The mission is simple: get everyone dancing with each other! T.O. Hustle Sessions has taken a modern approach to the style by fusing it with other street dances and concepts, and experimenting with different genres of music. Some of their accomplishments include creating events such as Crystallized, DISCOver The Funk, and House of Hustle, and performing and teaching at TD Toronto Jazz Festival, UNITY Charity, Bentway Block Party, Brighter Days, Dance Alchemy, and Footprints, and 2U4U At The Boat.

I lived in NY in the 1970s but never learned to do the Hustle because you needed a partner. 😞
After sitting through another "tutorial" elsewhere where a gal was teaching a line dance as "the Hustle," it was refreshing to see someone else doing the correct (coupled) dance, even if I never got to do it back then!

Need that here in SoCal. I grew up in NY in the 80s and saw many Filipinos really good at this. Sadly nobody ever taught me.

I'm not familiar with this being the hustle. I thought this was what my parents called hand dancing and the hustle was more of a original line dance
