I love the way you describe knapping a rock as being a journey …it conjures up images of Stone Age men that were probably thinking exactly the same thing
I absolutely love watching you go back in history and explain, how things were done and what the tools were used for it's amazing to me what time and effort you put into learning and also to teaching people.!! You my friend aren't just an inspiration of History but its teachings as well.!! Thank you for your time and effort you put in the each and every one your videos I learned more and more as I watch.!! I make tools out of Steel knives, tomahawks, Native American knives and I passed that down to my nine-year-old son.!! And he watches your videos along with me and is mesmerised at how you put together tools used for a plethora of things.! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Cheers my friend. You're friend Lawrence "aka Hannibal King" the king of Carthage is where I get that name from was given to me by my unit as always my friend stay blessed and my blessings go to you and your family.! Please don't ever stop what you're doing because it's an inspiration to everyone understand how we got to where we are and without that knowledge people would be questioning many things.! Also happy Easter to you and you're family as well. God bless
@@WillLordPrehistoricSurvival love your work. Has you a book on knapping flint tools if not you should has one I buy it. For sure but volume was not good hard to hear ya and your site can't be reached weird. I'm a novice at knapping too ❤🐾🐺👍
Happy Easter Will. Thank you for sharing this. Amazing work as always. It happens that I was born and grew up in Wyoming, and though I do not live there now it stays in my heart ,no place like it on earth. Thanks again and I hope you are well.
Thanks for sharing one of your exotic rocks with us. I'm lucky as a beginning knapper to live close to a quarry that deals in knapping stone. The owner allows customers to go through the debitage and there is a great variety of cherts and obsidian this is a great community. If you get a chance at some keokuk chert from Craig at neolithics don't pass it up.
😃😃😃😃😃 Rated at five smiles! Yes it is a great day! The day of his resirection and the beginning of the age of the son of man. And to end my day...Will posts a vid of a new journey with a "new stone". 😃 Happy Easter Sunday Best Wishes Will!
something remarkable about knapping... listening earnestly to what the stone wants, but also having the determination to deliver it, sounds like a spiritual journey of its own that I''m suddenly craving.
Have you ever worked with Cobden Chert It's a little more rare these days but still available with some shopping around online a lot of it has a bullseye pattern with concentric multicolored rings The outer part of the stone under the cortex is usually an orangish yellow color.
I found a large vain of alibates along the caprock of the Canadian River in the panhandle of Texas, if I can remove a large enough piece I'll send it your way. Thanks for the video.

I truly enjoy watching your video's of flint knapping. I like to whack a stone when I get the time my self but would love to have some of the fine quality flint you have over there. Keep on whacking.
Going to do some smacking later myself Will. You’ll love that dacite. Knaps like butter. Matter of fact, there is a variety known as black butter dacite. Very easy to flake.
Smell that Wyoming oil chert right after you hit it. Smell like oil. Its some cool stuff. Im breaking a piece of Wyoming oolitic right now. I should have saved it for ya! Its almost impossible to get now.
interesting you pointing out the name handaxe isnt a correct description for its use. In Sweden they are called "hand-wedges" maybe more correctly so, tho no handaxe has ever been found in Sweden so we didn't had the chance to name them :D
Wyoming oil chert. I live next door to this source and you've knapped more of it than me. Guess I should do something about that. I'm told never to heat treat your oil chert. I think you should toss your flakes in a small fire and see what happens. ;)
Hi Will, I find what you do fascinating, I live in a flint area in Southern Uk and have had a go a knapping with no success. What is the purpose of rubbing the stone on the edges of the flint every so often? Brilliant videos, thank you

@@WillLordPrehistoricSurvival I would be happy to. I collected some at the end of last fall but it was just on the beach, so it was pretty freeze cracked and nasty. I will be going out soon hopefully to pick up some good stuff, once I do I'll send some out your way
Do you have any videos on searching for raw materials? I just moved to the Flint Hills of Kansas, and on my casual walks and hikes I try to keep my eyes open for a piece of flint large enough to try knapping. I am not quite sure what to look for. Any hints?
Wyoming tiger/Greenville chert. its a really good stone to knap, but I have found that it is more favorable with a hammerstone than a soft hammer/billet. its very beautiful if u get the right piece, almost looks like pristine prune juice English flint in the light. but the platform preparation is similar to raw novaculite, rhyolite, and argillite. where it is almost completely rounded and extremely dulled to get the same results as any chert or flint. hope I helped.
