I just purchased the dx5c and a 1250kv motor and esc but I don't have a computer to up date them do I really need to if so why do they not come with the cable to do so for the price specially on the 1250kv system that cost alot of money.

They sure do! You will even get most of the telemetry, just not the battery specific stuff like cell data, cycle count etc. But you will get input voltage :)

Hi Omar, Sounds like you need to recalibrate AVC. We have a few videos on how that is done, it is also covered in the manual for the receivers. Hope that helps!
I dont understand what the benefit is to running a stock v5 Arrma with spektrum batteries is vs "dumb battery" The new Arrma V5 have all the spektrum electronics. What will I notice when running a spektrum battery pack vs any other battery out of the box?
If you are running the stock radio, you will not see any difference. BUT if you have a Smart compatible tx, such as a DX5C, you will get loads of valuable data right on your screen, with and without smart battery.

Hi, I just bought a full Spektrum Smart system. DX5Rugged with SR515, Firma 85A 4000kv brushless combo and two 2S Smart Lipo 5000mAh Shorty and the 2100 charger. I have the new firmware in everything. No to my problem. I cant get the Smart logo in my transmitter and I cant get the Smart Esc in the Telemetry meny. When I choose Esc in the meny I get data like rpm, voltage in esc and temp on circuit. But when I choose someting with battery/Lipo I cant read any data on my transmitter. It seems that I dont have all function i the Smart system. Everything in charger is ok with the Smart Lipos. /Mikael from Sweden

But after your answer, I tried again. This time I force it to new firmware. And yes now it works. Now I have all Smart telemetry in the DX5R. I am about to place an order (about $800) to set up my boat with all spektrum components. The only thing holding me back is knowing the size of the casing on the marine esc. I assume the measurements online are from cooling inlet to cooling outlet, but I need to know the length and width of the casing at the bottom of the unit. are these ESC's completely waterproof? What about the brushless motors? I have a 3300kv 540 motor. Lol Need to know cuz I just ran it in rain. Also about the receivers?? I have this SRX200 Is it waterproof?
The esc and motor are waterproof. That receiver is not, but if you run it in the rain it should be fine as long as you give it adequate time to dry out. Also using compressed air to blow out the water that may have collected inside is a great way to help prevent corrosion. Hope that helps!
I have an FID onboard brushless starter bolted onto my zenoah G320 and would like to know if the 130Amp version of the ESC will work to run the starter motor which will be connected to the ROSS on my SR6100AT receiver.

I used an Avian esc on a traxxas slash 4x4 it works amazing I think it would be a very good competitor to the xlx2 i pushed 132 so far I had to use a very big Cappack other wise spektrum needs to make a XLX2 Competitor God knows if anything can out Match an XLX2
Please help me out. I’m new to aftermarket Non TRAXXAS chargers. In my new 8s Xmaxx build, I’m wanting to run the newest Castle 2028 Sensored 800 kv motor and their newest 1/6th cryo-drive esc combo. I’m thinking of going with Spectrums powerstage 8s charger bundle with 2 4s Smart Lipo 5000 mah 50C hard case 14.8v and the 200w dual charger. Will I need a spectrum reciever and or a spectrum Smart esc or even an aftermarket Spectrum transmitter to run spectrum Smart batteries? Also, I’m told to run Big 8mm Anti spark offshore electric high current battery connectors and I think these connectors on the esc to, Will these aftermarket connectors work in this charger or do I use additional charging cables that plug into the 8mm connectors and then into the charger? I really wanna try out these Smart batteries, just need to know everything I need and how it all goes together so I can order this and have different connectors soldered on if needed. Thanks to anyone who can help me.
Motor Poles are normally listed as a spec of the motor. Beyond that, on a in runner brushless motor, it is the number of magnets on the center stator. On a out runner it is normally the number of stators in the center BUT that can be different depending on the design of the motor SO your best bet is looking up the Spec or asking the manufacture of the motor you are using. I wish the DX5R was just compatible with external telemetry sensors... After making an emergency landing of my quadcopter in the bay I learned the hard way how invaluable telemetry data can be. When it comes to my surface vehicles I like to also have telemetry data like motor temp and if possible battery consumption. The Spektrum Smart technology™ ESC's don't work for me because I need a sensored and waterproof ESC. Even if the SPMXSE1160 was a sensored ESC it wouldn't cut it for me because I'm running a 550 sized motor with drag brake. I'd love to be able to use telemetry on the DX5R but unfortunately it is not possible for my configuration. Please release a telemetry receiver that allows me to use external telemetry sensors with my current electronics. Thanks for your time, -Adam
Seems like a lot of stuff a lot of people won't ever use. I'm going to be getting a Losi with the Smart technology and it comes with a DX2E active transmitter. Im not interested in binding it to my DX5C. I haven't used or bound any other transmitter to any of my RCs. They come with their own transmitter out of the package and is already bound, so why would I waste my time rebinding to another. That's just the way I think for my RCs and I'm sure people who have bought other transmitters won't want to bother buying a Spektrum radio just to use the smart tech. It's good for a beginner, but people who have been in the hobby for quite some time take enough diligence in their batteries and RCs already will have the voltage checkers, batteries for the RCs, chargers, etc and won't want to toss it. When I get my Losi Tenacity db pro this week, I won't be looking for batteries with the smart tech. I trust what I already have rather than new tech that may go wrong and compromise my RC or batteries.
I guess the question is why did you buy a DX5C and not bind it to everything? No need to buy a remote that can store 20 models in that case. Unfortunately with the RC world and the electronics you have to make a choice. If you are a spektrum user then this makes sense for you but if you dont use spektrum (ie. Traxxas, Futaba, etc.) it doesn't. Personally, I like the smart batteries because a) they're good quality packs, b) i can program them with the 39 dollar smart checker and dont need a smart charger and c) aren't anymore expensive then non-smart packs from other brands. I am personally going to be putting a smart esc in my B44.3. I just bought a spektrum DX5C and got the new upgraded receiver on special for 154. I am planning on taking out the discontinued Mamba Monster Max Pro ESC but keep the Castle 3800kv (1410). Should be a good 3s setup for speed non dirt racing. I will dial it down to 2s for dirt racing. I am a spektrum guy and have been since getting into RC about 10-15yrs ago.

I don’t race rc’s, but it would be cool to have different options and functions as I would like to run my lighting via a switch on the radio if possible.

Smart, right. You didn't answer the esc question, of course it's a hobbywing, however you should have made it at least a 200 amp esc and make very sure it dosen't shut down during speed runs like the other hobbywing esc's. So let's be honest first and foremost. Is it a hobbywing esc and why hide the top secret motor if it actually is a spectrum motor, also do a range test on the radio, also I have the dx6r, I haven't seen a range test on and only use it on tracks that are close in respect to the transmitter, just don't trust spectrum on long range speed runs. How long must we wait for an update for the dx6r update. Please let me know all of thee above. Thanks
Darryl Thompson We hope to have 6R update out in a month. Thank you for the suggestions, We are always looking to expand our line up. If a esc is shutting down mid run then likely it is thermalling. Everything is good, but that 160a ESC will not hold up for long on 8s...... much better if Spektrum go to a 200a or 250a ESC, otherwise serious speedsters will buy from somewere else. just like there doing now.
It really depends on how hard you push it. If you draw 160A continuous from a pair of 5000 mAh 14,8V lipo's (in series), the batteries are empty in just under 4 minutes. Barely anyone draws that much current continously. But fair enough, more headroom is always better.
I think if you are drawing 160A on 8S and want more power, then it makes more sense to push to higher voltage, not higher current. So IMHO a bigger problem is lack of support for >8S. I personally don't have anything operating in the region of >160A on 8S. I have a lot in the region of 120-160A on 10-14S.

Hi Adam, not sure what you mean? The DX5R/Pro is compatible with external spektrum sensors as well as what you get from a Smart setup.

Traxxas did that alredy and it tend to kinda interfere with anything outside of their system.

But i wont say anything else than that before i get my hands on one of these systems to test it ;] Tho i have one question are the esc's made actually by hobbywing since these have something that looks like their patented switch and lets be onest very symilar case design?

Smart, right. You didn't answer the esc question, of course it's a hobbywing, however you should have made it at least a 200 amp esc and make very sure it dosen't shut down during speed runs like the other hobbywing esc's. So let's be honest first and foremost. Is it a hobbywing esc and why hide the top secret motor if it actually is a spectrum motor, also do a range test on the radio, also I have the dx6r, I haven't seen a range test on and only use it on tracks that are close in respect to the transmitter, just don't trust spectrum on long range speed runs. How long must we wait for an update for the dx6r update. Please let me know all of thee above. Thanks
Darryl Thompson We hope to have 6R update out in a month. Thank you for the suggestions, We are always looking to expand our line up. If a esc is shutting down mid run then likely it is thermalling. Not really hiding the motor, just nothing on website about it so no need to talk about it much. Hope that helps answer your questions! Thanks!

Nice, but at least for me, planes expensive enough to really care about such telemetry are all >8S.
A smart esc, with smart battery and ar637T reciever still dont give you mah used, only voltage of your smart battery, i call that a let down.

after the piece of crap spectrum radio that came with my arrma i am hesitant to buy anything spectrum.
Everything is good, but that 160a ESC will not hold up for long on 8s......
much better if Spektrum go to a 200a or 250a ESC, otherwise serious speedsters will buy from somewere else. just like there doing now.
It really depends on how hard you push it. If you draw 160A continuous from a pair of 5000 mAh 14,8V lipo's (in series), the batteries are empty in just under 4 minutes. Barely anyone draws that much current continously. But fair enough, more headroom is always better.
I think if you are drawing 160A on 8S and want more power, then it makes more sense to push to higher voltage, not higher current. So IMHO a bigger problem is lack of support for >8S. I personally don't have anything operating in the region of >160A on 8S. I have a lot in the region of 120-160A on 10-14S.
So does this work with the D2XE with the bluetooth telemetry module?
