  • Choosing the cambering of the rolls on most plate rolls is an extremely important step that should never be overlooked. Most often the camber is set to 50% of the machine capacity so it can cover the widest rage possible. However you are not required to choose this ratio for your new plate roll If most of your work is above or below 50% of the machine capacity the camber can be calculated to more effectively cover your most commonly rolled part. This video just covers the basics about the effect of camber while rolling with a 4 roll and to a lesser extent 3 roll plate rolling machines.

In the case of a thin plate, how do we adjust the clearance at the ends of the plate, with more pressure on the central roller?

Yes.... Higher pinch pressure will deflect the rolls more creating a more even pinch. If you use too much pressure for what the plate can handle the results will be a wave or ripple across the plate. If this happens you either need to shim with some other material take up the space or change the camber on the roll. Changing camber on the roll only makes sense if it's a job you are doing often.
