*This does exactly what I was wanting **MyBest.Tools** Price was fantastic, lower than Harbor Freight-and it included hose and attachments, and IT IS MADE IN AMERICA, unlike Harbor Freight*

*Construction seemed sturdier than other units I considered **MyBest.Tools** Noise level was reasonable. Good pressure and cfm capacity for a small reasonably light compressor.*

I didn't believe air compressors could be quiet, so I looked it up on UA-cam. This video was excellent. I appreciate that you had a traditional compressor to compare it to, since judging just how loud something is can be difficult through a video. Thanks again for this.

Thank you for actually comparing it to another air compressor. It really helped to understand how much quieter it is. I think I’ll tell my wife about this air compressor 🤞🏽

that makita being not as loud and still noticing that big a difference speaks volumes.
i just bought a ridgid 6 gallon that’s going back to home depot because it sound ma like a lawn mower inside the house.
quiet compressors have been design for a reason just like quiet neighborhoods exist.
it allows the soul to relax.

Thank you! Been looking at different “quiet” air compressors all day. There is the Eastwood Elite QST scroll compressor, the Eaton Quiet Polar Bear compressor, now this! So many options! Thanks for making my choice a little bit easier!

@@Maraksot78 thanks for the useful video.
Does the air compressor only make noise when it needs to really suck in air after it is it has run out of air?
Also you can download any free iPhone app with a dB reader to measure the sound.

The Makita is a single piston unit which runs at a higher rpm than the CA Air Tool which has 2 pistons, enabling it to run at 1/2 the rpm, making it much more quiet.

The newer California Air Tools 8010 model (8 gal 1 hp) and 8010A (aluminium tank version) are even more quiet as they feature the updated motor version. I saw they now have a new 'continuous run' air compressor model with the 200CR motor which is actually made in the USA....its about time!

Can two of these be run simultaneously into a common hose? Do I just need check valves between them? They don't seem to like to start if there's any back pressure they have to work against.

It would have been helpful to list the quoted dB rating of the compressor, and to know if your new one can keep up with the tools using the air, compared to the old one.

Even though the California Airtool compressor is pretty quiet, their service sucks. I have a model 8010 and after 4 months I had an overheating issue. After a lengthy email troubleshooting (over a month), they finally told me to ship it to California for further troubleshooting. Since I didn't keep the box nor the styrofoam, they just told me to find a box somehow....I can almost see the email after they receive the compressor saying "due to improper packaging, the warranty is void". So I decided not to send it back and to live with it right now by pointing a fan to the compressor until I can find a replacement from a different vendor.

  • @JD_Mortal
    @JD_Mortal 2 роки тому

It can be made even more quiet, easily, by adding 1/2" to 3/4" foam around the compressor. Leaving only a gap for the air to exhaust and a matching hole at the other end, for fresh air to enter. It can be nearly dead-silent with a full 1" of a foam "cover". The best part is the wheels on the pump. Now all they need is quiet nail-guns and other air-drive tools!

  • @tothepoint4240

So i can't find the difference between the one you showed and the 8010 model I see online at Amazon. They look identical and when I Google the 5510se compressor the 8010 model shows up. Any idea what's up with that?

  • @DavidM2002

You can get any number of decibel meter apps for your phone. I don't know how accurate they are in absolute terms but, if you are using it for comparing two noise sources, then you can at least get a relative difference between the two. And remember, the decibel scale is a logarithmic scale. So, if one compressor is 70 db and the second is 80 db, then that 80 db compressor is 10 x's louder than the 70 db compressor.

The Makita is not loud to begin with (the little oil-less ones with gear drive motor are the noisiest), but the CAT is very quiet.

  • @concrete981
    @concrete981 3 роки тому +1

how long does it take to fill the tank when it's empty, before it shuts off. 2 cfm at 90 lbs. how long does it take to top off a car tire. good for air brushing and filling bicycle tires. quiet isn't everything.

How many Decibels emit? I can't see from the video because is too little.
I noticed many quiet compressor measure 70db filter side and 65 opposite side at the distance of 1mt. Some models measure 79Db at 1mt. The problem is, they are all labeled as Silent, SuperSilent, UltraQuiet, 59Db(A), 59Db measured, etc... Some compressor are labeled 48db ad after a test they are 68/72 at 1 mt distance.
There are also many labels with differents DB measure: 59db(A), 59db tested, LWA 79db, LPA 57db. This increase the confusion because people don't find a standard measure as reference. I noticed some oil compressore have report LWA 93db and silent compressor like vertical stanley 50lt 1.3hp report big 59db(A) label in the front and little yellow LWA 79db on the back. In some test is 76-81db at 1 meter. So, I keep LWA as a best reference, Ol are 95/93db and silent 65/79db. A wisper air compressor that use a fridge motor is 40/59db
They all have a really similar motor and I think 10 decibels of difference is caused by little differences:
    - biggers compressor are more noisier (big reservoir transmit more noise)
    - a little bit different air filter
    - softer engine bushing
    - Big reservoir need more time to fill, more time mean engine become more hot and hotter engine mean more noise (i'm not be sure, but I noticed in some tests, the compressor feel quiet from 0 bar to 5 bar and more noisier from 5 bar to 8 bar)
    - place of test (wood reduce noise, outside more quiet, cement and humidity transmit the noise)
From youtube videos is hard to understand how much noise because many phones and cameras have a noise suppression filter and when people talk the compressor noise is cropped and become a wisper. Depends how much this filter is strong.
Only really silent air compressors I heard are fridge motor air compressors or airbrush ajr compressor (some have fridge motor)

Just ordered one of these. My old compressor is hurting my brain it’s so loud. I have my compressor plugged into an outlet that’s wired on a twist timer. Vast majority of time I’m only using it for a few minutes for tires and such. This way it doesn’t cycle on and off. I can walk away knowing the timer will expire and the system will be off.
I’d love to hear other comments about tank size. I didn’t want to go with a big tank, Because it takes longer to get those up to a workable pressure. When only used occasionally. If I were in my shop all day every day I would want a much bigger tank.

That noise is the compressed air entering the tanks. All compressors make that noise but most are so loud you would never hear it.

    OMG...
    I'm buying one now.
I had no idea it was this quiet.
Right now I have the Worst tiny little compressor in history.
think it was free with a brad nailer (campbell hausfeld)
I Also grew up in Home renovations,
we''ve had 5 or so compressors in our family business. (15 years removed)
makita, bosch, porter cable, Bostitch, dewalt
So I thought this was just a little bit quieter than those....
your Makita is probably slightly quieter than all the ones I've used.
    just... which one.
    their website needs some work.

Yes they do. Here's a link to their website. www.californiaairtools.com/ I haven't used a stop watch or anything to compare how fast they fill but the model I have I feel fills just as quick as any other compressor I've ever used before. Hope this helps. :)
