    I agree the tightened flank strap encourages the bucking behavior. BUT, its a very moderate 'aid' compared to what is demanded of various show horses. Double bits, over flexed necks , mouths tied shut, tails broke and reset high, or docked tails, or racing 2 year old babies. I'd say this bucking stock has leßs work, more freedom, and healthy food as well

      Yes I agree, over the years the degree of danger has escalated markedly for Horses in lots of events, Western or English . The degree of difficulty in Show jumping and cross country has become heightened, you touched rightly on the dressage area, I would also add to that the mental anguish many high end dressage horses experience a lack of appropriate mental let down from endless training and often very few relaxing rides to compensate or paddock grazing time in a herd as a Horse . I think many of these bucking horses have a better overall life than many horses competing in all sorts of events where these days that there legs blow out early , their muscular skeletal system is pushed to it s limits way to often without the right down time, and mentally they are often not getting the let down they need . At least the bucking stock get to live like horses and experience a true let down . Its not like that for all competing horses and ponies but it has become immensely competitive in most Equine events and the Horses and ponies are feeling it .

    I'm not sure if it's the same as the ranch in the video. But I saw one in a beautiful location that had CS on it. Just north west of Longview just east of Eden Valley. If it is the same one that's a ranch I'd love to see :) I love that entire area right up to highway 40.

      Except when Calgary Stampede ships their bronc culls to slaughter. The Bouvry empire loves it. Good money in dead horses. Live ones too, we ship them in crates overseas for Japanese sashimi. Oooops. Did I burst your pretty little rodeo fantasy bubble?

      Clearly you haven't paid attention to history. Four decades ago is when they stopped using horse meat in dog food. If they're not bucking in rodeos, they're out on the pasture for breeding purposes.

      True that - in order to work, a flank strap has to be just loose enough to slip a little and to the horse, it feels like he (or she) can kick it off. If the flank strap is pulled too tight, they won't kick.

      We also have large herds of wild horses in Alberta, largely in the area between the Sheep and Brazeau rivers, on the eastern slopes of the Rockies. Estimated to be about 1400 in number. Their breeds are a mix of draft horses, Spanish mustangs, and Indian ponies.

    Im interested to know how they retire them, quality breeding stock for sure, but is it then they are sent to the doggers. ( Horse slaughter in Australia ) because their probably not much more than a companion horse at that point. I think these days there is a massive stress many Equine events place on competing horses now days. These animals actually have a very easy life overall when studying many equine events. and the lives the horses must live to compete successfully at them .. Many Equine events, include massive mental strain of endless training in a ménage, or high rotation of jumping dangerously high jumps with an ever growing degree of complexity, dressage horses that are commonly schooled to the point of utter depression, these bucking animals on balance compared to many horses actually do have a less stressful life and are handled minimally in comparison the the relentless training many equine sports place on their Horses. These days the pressure on soft tissue, joints, and bones on competition horses is non stop, so these horses probably dont experience as tough a life overall. they do their thing and get home and chill Its the retirement issue that I wonder about. And other bucking breeding programs, these horses have it good.

    • @pitgroove.37_66
      @pitgroove.37_66 3 роки тому

      I have seen horses that are retired from bucking and are trained to become normal saddle horses. Other than that, they're put out to pasture to breed and live out the rest of their lives doing whatever they want.

    bucking is a reflex that horses are born with to escape a potential predator. it’s not a reflex for sport. forcing horses to buck more than once at a time, for a prolonged amount of time, is not good for their physical or mental health. sure they live in green pastures now, but when they return from a rodeo with ptsd or a broken neck, it won’t have been worth it.

    • @demonicsnowh.280
      @demonicsnowh.280 3 роки тому +1

      It’s very rare for bucking horses to get injured, many buck for upwards of 20 years, and that’s something you can only do with very healthy, fit horses, and not one of these horses looked overly spooking or skittish, and many, if not most of those mares bucked, and would, according to you, have ptsd

    • @pitgroove.37_66

      It seems like you have forgotten about the world famous phrase "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink", and it's the exact same thing with these horses. The horse can't be forced to buck in rodeos; it has to WANT to buck.

    They buck because they are forced to with a flank strap, electric prods, hitting and kicking, rope burning, stabbing with wires , twisting their tails and ears, in fact any kind of torment to make them buck.
    when was this video made? 1948?

You've probably never worked around these animals or the sport of rodeo you don't know shit about what goes on in the rodeo those animals are treated better than some treat there house pet. geoff pike it may be pointless to speak the truth, but c'mon!! Not all rodeos torture their livestock!! These cowboys are offering their animals more than enough open space for them to be what they are and do what they want, and they said Free medical care for these animals too!! Get a grip!!!!!😤😬
