A grandma who was feeling down having recently had to put her husband into hospice care was given a tear-filled surprise when she was served pumpkin pie at her local grocery store by her military-serving grandson. Kelsey Sweet, a staff sergeant with the United States Army, had secretly flown in to surprise his grandmother, Margie Grant, 83, hoping to boost her spirits over the holiday season. As Margie walked through her local grocery story in Camp Verde, Arizona, she headed over to her regular counter to pick up the pie - but she didn't initially notice the face staring back at her. Then, when everything clicked, the 83-year-old immediately started crying happy tears, having not seen Kelsey around a year and a half.

Bless him. She seemed confused, then it dawned on her.
So cute! Way to go! Keeping GM young!
God🙏🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🥰🥰😄
Lol, 🤗🥰💐 yes that was sweet.
She is a amazing woman or Grandma
She didn't seem confused, she was confused. Dementia is a hell of a thing.
In her mind she was thinking "This young man looks like my grandson but he's not here" bless her heart
Exactly!! She was probably saying it in the back of her mind😆This young man looks like my grandson 🤗😊
Exactly what I was thinking
Yep
May be a visual issue like MD
Nothing wrong with granny, she just has a lot going on
“I’m sorry, mum made me do it” - spoken like a true grandchild ❤
why would u copy another comment i really wanna understand this type of behavior
This is word for word copied from a comment just before yours...😅 original!
😂😂😂😂 ❤❤❤
Just traveled to Florida to see my last remaining grandparent a few months ago. I was so excited to see her and hug her... but she didn't remember who I was. Nothing has broken my heart like that before.
That happened to me, my grandnephew who lived in another state with his parents came to see me at my church. After dismissal my family gathered in front of the church. I saw a little boy right in front of me and was staring at me whom I dismissed because my parish is diverse. That's when he was persistent and looking back at him that I realized he was ours.
It's very sad. When I was last able to see my grandma before she passed, she thought I was my mom. My mom had passed 2 years prior.
Losing your memories is the cruelest thing that can happen when you age.
@@meredithf4604 at least she recognized she was related to you. My mom had dementia she knew me sometimes and sometimes she didnt.
I know the feeling... it took everything in me not to burst out crying in front of her and other family members when after l hugged her and asked how she was doing she looked at me smiled and said who are you, l don't think l know you... 💔🥹😪
“I’m sorry. Mom made me do it”. Spoken like a true grand child ♥️
Yep.
Yup
I can attest.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥺
*Just throw mama all up under that bus!*
I think she felt horrible for not recognizing her grandson but she was probably thinking he isnt back yet he must just look like him, bless her heart
Happened once to my friends dad. Hes old like in his 80s. He didnt even recognize his own sister from Laos when she finally got her visa. It took awhile before it dawned on him
the lights, sometimes, it blinds and messed up my sight, too.
Absolutely!!!
My mom used to introduce herself 3x every day to her mom
I wont blame her or any grandad n grandma for not recognise their grandchild.. At their age i will totally understood..
I'm not crying you are!! ❤😢 this is so sweet she is so adorable once she figured it out she was so happy 😊
I'm dying crying toooo😂😂😂😂
I'm not crying somebody released a bunch of onion cutting ninjas in my room
Our grand babies mean SO MUCH TO US‼️
NO MATTER HOW OLD THEY ARE‼️
YES‼️ I said GRANDBABIES‼️
And that is EXACTLY what I mean♥️❣️
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
She is trying to compute “it can not be him” why would I find my grandson behind this bakery counter?”
So precious they are. Like little babies.
So true, my younger brother passed away 8 years ago, and I still see him everywhere. He was tall had a beard and so many guys look like him, even I sometimes can't compute and I'm 50.
Granma was just precious made me tear up.
exactly 🥹🥹omg exactly like little babies too omg i’m gonna cry
They have an awful lot more dignity than babies… this comparison always rubs me the wrong way. Decaying mental faculties is not child-like innocence.
Circle of life my friend.
She thought he was insulting her, calling her old. "Anything else Grandma"?
She probably just thought he was being respectful saying grandma. Thats why it took her a few times. So sweet.
In Poland this is disrespectful to say grandma or grandpa to the strangers
@@sabinckaeverywhere is actually disrespectful if you don’t know them, is like if you’re calling them old
@@Yoskio I think it depends with what kind of old, where I live calling a person who is that old grandma is sign of respect, like if they are old enough to be your grandma
She probably didn't hear him.
Where did you grow up where calling random people “grandma” is respect…?
That guy looked familiar, her uncle, brother and she didn’t want to stare or impose. She knew something but couldn’t put her finger in it. Lovely and beautiful
As a veteran, everyone of your videos makes me cry. Thabk you so much for capturing these magic moments. ❤
Dont cry for him he is a evil person who killing in other counties he isn't worth tears but just a bodybag!
Thank you for your service 🤍
I don't think people realize how much a soldier can change in 18 months.
How do they learn to carry those gigantic balls?
Has to be rough on the back for sure
Nor the country they invade
Thank for saying that. I kept thinking why she doesn't recognize her own grandchild? Is she unwell... She looks fine! But yeah the reason is a soldier looks different after training. 😅
Or the grandma
Granny didn't recognize him at first because she never expected to see him there. God bless her heart.
Probably thrown off by his shaved head too?
Too focused on the pie.🤗
Older people sometimes take a little longer to process things. But when she does...😆 🤣
SO SWEET MADE ME 😢🤗
@@KH-nt7ejBro imma be honest this would fk me up too lmaoo. Maybe not if it was my grandson but after almost 2yrs of not seeing someone and then they're working behind the counter 😂

I was wondering if she maybe has problems with her eyesight too? Bless her! 💗

Didn't expect him to come home yet, let alone out of context at a grocery store, sweet Grandma and Grandson:)
Yeah, and as you get older, it's easier to get confused sometimes. Frustrating but it's the reality even when dementia not present. God bless this cute little grandma. 😍
I think she ess "Confused" she was wondering why everything is being handled differently 🤔🤦🏼♀️ once she figures it out she was soo embarrassed!! Im a grandma (of 7) Also so people we will always stick together!!!
Yeah, and he’s probably a lot thicker and his hair is probably cut shorter
@Its me or whatever haha Yeah I can see me doing that too. Maybe not truly disinterested, but just kind of in the zone in terms of focus so things out of context take longer to compute in a busy brain....makes sense to me.
It’s so easy to bump into someone outside the element where you normally see them and not recognize them. Especially if that person wears a uniform in the usual settings you see them in; nurses, doctors, LE Officers, Firefighters, Military, retail customer service clerks… it’s embarrassing! Especially if they recognize you first!!
She was so delighted to see you her grandson. Absolutely precious.
I'm so glad we got to experience all of those "returning home" events before my mom passed. They were all priceless. She worried sooo much for everyone.
You could tell her eyesight isn't the best but she recognized his voice 👍
She has a hearing aid in her right ear too... she is so cute
♥️♥️
Same with her hearing. She is like my husband's grandmother whom we have to yell everything to, and then eventually she asks why we're shouting 🤣☠❤
@@blueeyedbatman adorable and funny at the same time ❤❤❤😁
What a surprise!!She finally noticed him.Bear hug was great.
So cool. Wish I could hug one of my grandmas like that again
When you see someone in a different setting (and their hair is shaved) it can take a minute to recognize them. This was precious!
Exactly lol..
So true. Even people you know from work and school. It's a little disorienting.
Agreed! I hardly recognized my husband when he got back from overseas
... and you know they are overseas 😅
WOW, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SURPRISE..❤
Some of us boys still take good care of our angels while we can still see them

I’m crying like a baby or a proud American who is blessed to see her grandson home for grandma! 😢❤
The way she came to the counter and asked for her pie though 🥰 she’s sooo sweet ❤️
A lost era of kind people fading into time and obscurity. Damn shame...
That is despicable.
@@angelinasourenhuh?
Me as an old person
She didn't realize it was him because she wasn't expecting to see him lol that's so sweet.
They filmed a woman with Alzheimer's not recognizing her grandson that has been away.
And they were distracting her with the pie lol
Yes and no. Old age is a bitch. There are some age related eyesight afflictions ( like cataracts and macular degeneration) that give poor eyesight. And also hearing issues. And then there is cognitive decline. Any ONE of these common issues could have contributed.
The Western diet makes all of these conditions more likely and pronounced. But she sure is one sweet looking grandma. The last time he addressed her felt most natural - I would bet on that being the way he usually talks to her ❤
The young man probably looked a lot different, slap, if he's military. He has no hair etc.
Great gift to give your grandma…. YOURSELF
Man, this makes me wanna go give my grandma a big hug right now
I'm not crying, you're crying. ...I'm crying.
I'm crying and smiling too.😭🙂

We all crying 😢
This made me cry cause my 86 year old mom doesn’t recognize me due to Alzheimer’s. Not words can explain what that feels like.
I'm sorry. My mom had alzheimers too. She thought I was her mom. Love her. ♥
So sorry! My cousin went thru this, too. Just love them no matter what. I loved my aunt so much! She helped me with some problems about me crying in church, etc(I was always embarrassed). She was so onery when I was growing up. I called her Aunt Maude(Bea Arthur). Her name was Marian. I miss her still and think of her everyday. The women who took care of her at the nursing home just loved her!
🥺❤️🤗
Be encouraged. Her heart still knows you. The mind may go, but the heart never forgets. Let your mind remember for both of you.
😪😪😪
guys who respect their elders go a long way...
Did you notice her mannerisms? So adorable, childlike.
he threw his own mama under the bus, this is the kinda stuff we all need to see pure sweet wholesome goodness
I was just about to say that when I saw your text lol
Right!
The brain is so interesting. She didn't expect to see her grandson behind the counter and she didn't. Such a sweetheart.
She didn't even notice him
its a phenomena called "non contextual recognition error" and happens because of various processes in the brain when we learn faces.
Precisely!❤️🤩🤩❤️
@@littleboots9800 Nice to know thank you for info! Gonna research that 😭🤍🙏 bless this grandmama’s heart
True.. My sister and I look alike although our features are all different. Anyway I'm out shopping and I see this girl walking toward me and I'm staring and I'm like that's amazing how much that girl looks like me. And I keep walking right by her until it dawned me it was her in I turned around she was 20 ft away and just staring at me.
Same with brother on a plane and I had no idea he was flying anywhere. I was already in my seat and I look at him thinking gee he really looks like my brother 😳
Oh dang, this one tore me up 😭❤️
Don't embarrass your grandma aww, bless...

No one knows how much a Grandma loves their grandchildren!
Tell your loved ones how much they mean to you, your next second isn’t guaranteed.
I LOVE UR COMMENT GOD BLESS U 🙏🤓
What made me cry about this was what must have been going through the lady's head - the realisation of the loss of herself - "I couldn't recognise my own grandchild!"
That is so sweet of him to do that for his grandma
We see so many videos about negative things. Like storms, crime, death, destruction. Its so nice to see something that warms hearts. Good for this family!
Bless grandma; thank you for your service.
Different setting, she wasn't looking at him. How sweet her reaction!

Now, I'.m crying. She went to get the pie to go. Grandma wasn't paying much attention, she wanted to get the pie and ready to move on. Grandma, never believed that her Grandson would be behind a counter at a grocery store. She assumed he was still in the service. After a while, she finally recognized that was her grandson. The ending was too sweet!!!
Absolutely the BEST! 🫡
He was so gentle and respectful with his grandma. To be honest if I see someone out of their usual location it takes me a while to process!
That is so darn sweet. I can see where she might have been distracted. When you’re a certain age, you’re not as fast as you used to be. I speak from experience.
Dementia is so scary for families, God bless them.
She couldn’t believe her eyes so her brain couldn’t process it. This is so touching. Thank you for your service and for your family’s sacrifice.
She's probably just got bad eyesight. It ain't that deep.
She had that look of “who you calling grandma?” Until she realized it was her grandson. I love it 🥰

Oh the love of a nannie to her grandson........there will never be another like it
This almost made me cry for real. Family not around, grands getting older and I miss them so very much. Perhaps they just don't realize how much it means to grandparents. Or maybe, sadly, they do. Keep us in prayer as God is able!
The word grandma didn't dawn on her because as far as she knows, her grandson has been at service for the last 18 months....it was priceless when she realised what was really happening.....❤❤❤
Based on how many times she said the word "what" and how she leaned in, I'm going to say it's more likely that she didn't even hear him the first few times.
@@blueeyedbatman it is a very distinct possibility.
She’s far gone, all it means
