Fun fact: its common practice to use thermite to burn a tank if you have to abandon it during a battle so that when the enemy claim the tank, all they actually get is some partially melted scrap metal
Yep, and the difference between a thermite grenade and a thermate grenade is thermite is designed primarily for antimateriel purposes as you said, while thermate is better used for incendiary munitions due to its explosive properties. Matter of fact, that's what their grenades were made of...thermate. Not thermite. Thermate contains an oxidizer. Edit: The bucket is even labeled "Thermate."

Loved that propane tank going up! People don't appreciate just how much is actually in those things. Something like this is a pretty impressive demonstration of just how much energy is there. Honestly, this reminded me of images from 1991 when Saddam Hussein lit the southern Iraqi oilfields on fire to prevent their capture during the Gulf War. Those runaway oil wells shot flames into the sky just like this. Those ones had to be carefully extinguished and capped with huge amounts of concrete. This one, fortunately, will just burn itself out.
This video was AMAZING. The metal playing during slow-mo was *chef's kiss*. The videography, reactions, the sound of the cylinder exploding was intense!
For someone who works with explosives, I always find strange when he lights a fuse with a match when we have perfectly good jet flame lighters in this modern age
When I was a little brat, me and my friends did similar with mailboxes. But we did not have termite, so we used potasium nitrate, sugar and instant coffee. The coffee is for an added smoke (it smokes a LOT). We got som real "effcient" smell effect as a bonus.
I came here to say this; also, if the Bad Guys don't know you did that, when they try to use it again, first shot they try to fire hits that lump welded to the inside - if the design is intelligent, there would be a plug outside the turret to blow off first & relieve the pressure if the barrel is obstructed. Otherwise, all those propellant gasses will blow back into the turret. Sounds like a Very Bad Day.
If you put those thermite grenades insulated with a larger tube filled silica sand. Could really direct the heat to where you want it to go. Out the base of the grenade.
With every video you guys post on the channel, the more I come to realize that Finland is the "South Carolina" of Europe. (As a native SC boy, that's a compliment.)

It would be very interesting if you did the propane tank again, version (2.0), but next time put a scale underneath it to see how much thrust it produces.
Hopefully, UA-cam doesn't give you a community strike about this like they did with us. They removed our video on thermite grenades this past week because they define thermite as an explosive.
The molten steel left in the end of the tank barrel probably wouldn't cause the barrel to rupture. However, that intense heat inside the barrel kills the metal's heat treatment and weakens it to the point it MAY fail. When it comes to disabling artillery and big guns, troops usually go for the transverse mechanism or the breach. Thermite grenades do wonders on those. Getting one on a tank's engine deck can kill a tank, too.
I still hope to see him test out different pressure cookers with the steam vent closed off. He could compare brands as to which is the safest. This video was good too. I enjoyed it.
I didn't realize thermite was such a simple combination. Sulfur thermite also leaves behind a byproduct which can react with water to form Hydrogen-Sulfide gas, so it's doubly dangerous.
in higher concentrations it burns out your sense of smell... you smell thick shit stop breathing , itll literally take your breath away in low comcentrations... all you have time to do is wtf? unless you know the smell... use whatever breath you have to leave the area... use a balled up shirt or carbon filter if you muat take a breath. but dont stay there

The mailbox was history. The Computer case (and motherboard), it had a trick up it's sleeve: A capacitor grenade. BOOM! Had enough force (thrust) to knock it over! The propane tank was THE most spectacular! What a huge amount of thrust, it would've easily flown a kilometer or two into the air! The steel pipe? Should've sealed the end with a longer fuse! BANG!
Amazing, your thermite grenades work equally as well on mail as Australia Post ! With the Tank barrel, you need to turn the thermite into Thermate by using Barium. You can also throw in some magnesium too. You have options :-) Either way.. you can now open an Australia Post office branch.
If you have access to someone who knows chemistry, you can replace part of the thermite mix with plaster of paris(calcium sulfate) and make a castable thermite. The ratios have to be right to make the chemistry right, but you can also change the amount of plaster to control the burn speed. We made a high plaster shell and filled it with a faster burning(low plaster) version that gave us a sort of 'shaped charge' that would considerate the heat in one spot and consume it'self completely over time. Maybe you can have fun with this idea.
