Actually Japan had a pretty big indie fighting game scene back in the day that used visual novel and ecchi game characters, it resulted in *Melty Blood* and a few other series and plenty of one-offs. It's not *exactly* the same as them being light novel fighters, but it's somewhat adjacent in that they're lower production level fighting games of _(mostly)_ smaller properties.
I just realized that Ako and her husband are basically playing the game Ragnarok...one of her win animations is a angel appearing with a trumpet tune, thats literally from ragnarok online
This is still my favorite anime fighter. Too bad Ignition never got a Western release. This game was fun. Misaka with Dokuro-chan assist was always my go-to or Asuna.
My guess is the characters that were from licensed anime would be a nightmare to find the companies who own the dubbing rights in America and get their okay.
I really really want a 2D anime-style fighting game like this to show up on the PS5. Gimme something like a CLAMP crossover (or some Doujin dev could fulfill that wish for me). It’s also why I want Arcana Heart Six Stars on the PS5 so bad because Under Night II and such coming out. Come on Team Arcana…

LMFAO Literally just thought the same, and I'm an RO oldhead. Reading the manga adaptation, I never got the impression the game they were playing was explicitly based on RO but now I have to go back and check lmfao

Aquapazza is a different game. It featured characters from a series of visual novels from a publisher called Aquaplus. The game was localized and released on the PS3 in 2012. This game, despite the original being released on the PS3, is only available on PS3 and PS4 (and the Japanese PSN). Luckily it's region free. There IS a PC port of this game, too. It's an unofficial release of the arcade version and it's fully translated. But on the real, I'm not even sure if it's still floating around.

Sega was lame for porting this same game for PS3, PS4, and PS Vita but not a single one of them ever left Japan. Why gave Japan the same one game on all three similar consoles?
