Actually 5 UNC Coaches has made the Final Four. Frank McGuire was the 1st and led UNC to the title in 1957 against ironically Kansas and Wilt Chamberlain in triple OT, going undefeated
I think what hasn't been said, but needs to, is the very real fact that Davis face significant headwinds in his first season. Fans turned on him, his team struggled in a huge way (even losing by 20 at home to a team at the bottom of the ACC), he lost a starter, had no capable backups, almost missed the tournament and there was a lot of talk about he was the wrong choice. But he proved them all wrong, by doing what no one could have ever accepted as anything other than "that's ridiculous" if you mentioned it before the duke home game. Now he will likely be the national coach of the year.
I don’t like how coach K did Tommy a maker who was suppose to be the duke leadership pick to take over the program but he wanted another guy with no experience
He's given a few reasons but I think he really hurt Tommy A. by asking him to not consider the offer from the University. He wanted Scheyer to be the coach and at the end he got what he wanted.
I was scratching my head as to why UNC was such an underdog in this game. I mean, they just beat Duke, at Duke, with massive pressure on them. Still scratching!
Duke made some impressive steals in the second half. Impressive! And as another poster said, while it's good to have Coach K gone it was he who made the rivalry intense and fun. A hero is only as exciting as the villain he faces. I hope Jon Scheyer is a good coach because keeping the rivalry tense is what keeps it fun.
spoken like someone who knows absolutely nothing about Carolina basketball. Duke does not "run" the state of NC. That is the all time stupidest thing I've ever heard. I cannot believe Key said that
Outcoached? It was a crazy, back and forth game. Both teams played amazing. Williams missed 2 huge free throws for Duke and UNC hit big shots. It's that simple...has nothing to do with coaching.
Let me end this coaching argument. If Duke does better from the line or if Williams hits his free throws at the end of the game then we have a different outcome. What can coach K do when hit team misses the big shots and UNC hits them?
Funny how Jay brings up Trajan Langdon, because that is what this Duke team was truly missing this year. They needed a Langdon, a Redick, a Kennard, a Scheyer, just a player to hit that 3 consistently. Duke just didn’t have that shooter on the outside like all their great teams have had, this year. No Griffin doesn’t count either.
I hate how the media is always hyping up Duke win or lose…like North Carolina is just some underdog Cinderella team? Lol we’re literally leading in all time wins against each other. 3 final four appearances and one trophy since 2015 while Duke has none..every body focusing on dukes recruiting class but they never have anything to show for it. Here we are winning with our lil rag tag team of 4 stars and transfers. Respect the Tarheels
Being a UNC fan I'm happy with how it went, but I wouldn't say Coach K got out coached. Duke had a solid plan from a coaching perspective. Truth is Duke probably was winning most of the time. Knowing Heels haven't been great on defense Duke focused more on inside. Making a weak defense play defense all the way to to basket is sound. Duke missed a lot of free throws. Love hit one of his hot streaks when it really counted the most, and that was all it took.
K outcoached himself. He drank his own kool aid about giving players the confidence to make their own decisions when things get tough, but this team was too young and inexperienced to handle that challenge. Banchero was too unselfish; he is unstoppable on the drive but hasn't learned that sometimes it's ok to be a ballhog-kept getting iso after iso, not like the double-teams that took him out of halves earlier in the year. Moore never was the floor general the team needed; he may be a junior but never had the chance in 2020 or 2021 to see real single-elim tourney play. And to top it all off, this team had to be constantly reminded to communicate on defense. All that said, what this team achieved was remarkable and they gave it a solid shot. It's not the way I wanted an era to end but it's a new chapter moving forward. Duke for life.
@Asah Spades what does color have to do with it, it's a game, why is it surprising a black coach out coached him , that's the problem, comments like that indirectly saying a Blackman can't out think a whiteman.

His team played their best games of the year an this 8th seed team took ate their lunch. He said it was one of the best team in the country. Roll the tape! The kicker was he said they would be the last man standing in April. Josh was spot on with his call. Again he was ask Friday he didn't flip flop. He said they were the best in the country in January an even better now. The Heels cut down the nets. This 8 seed team been playing with house money an it doesn't change tonight. This 8th seed team has had a tougher road than Kansas to get here. My memory doesn't serve me like it use to but isn't Baylor in the big 12. They handle them pretty well. First off all the respect in the world to Duke. I know us fans get heated and say some nasty things to each other but at the end it's just a game and we should all have fun, but Jay Williams mentioned that Duke has to recruit at a high level to compete with UNC...they've been getting the best players for a decade, they've been beating UNC in recruits, yet UNC is always there somehow some way. I just don't understand how UNC has lost so many recruits when they're the definition of consistency. What is it a final 4 appearance in each of the past 9 decades🤯
If you look at the recruiting classes for UNC after UNC won the championship in 2017 they are full of one and dones and transfers or players that won't that good but Hubert has them playing great at the right time.
Coach K was DEFINITELY the greatest coach of all time that talks through his nose, and his players always seem to know exactly which kind of tears to shed after a game, whether they be tears of joy or tears of agony. The one thing you could always be sure of though was that after a game Duke’s players were going to be crying.
@@johnharris8191 I was being sarcastic. I KNOW John Wooden was the greatest of all time, but amazingly you are the only one who has agreed with me on that. Most of the Shasheffsky supporters are too young to remember Wooden, but there is literally no comparison between the two.
Was not expecting J-Will to make this comment. I guess that’s why I’ve always respected J-Will more than a lot of guys who talk about basketball nowadays, cuz he knows ball.
Hubert Davis will now be known for something other than being the guy that benefitted from Hue Hollins’ ticky tack foul call on Scottie Pippen in the 1994 playoffs
All the build up and history of the rivalry was important to this game. This was the biggest game in the history of the rivalry. North Carolina beats coach k in the final four. They just claimed their dominance over duke
Exactly ... these asinine comments are meant for television and nothing else. Anybody that watched the game and know basketball wouldn't have said it. Two teams making great shots after shots until one team had the ball with seconds remaining and made the shot that proved to be the difference. That's basketball in a nutshell. For any coach to be outcoached, there had to be glaring mistake or strategy he could have employed but didn't. But there was none, this game was macho -vs- macho.
@@jtucker473 What you said had nothing to do with Love making the 3 for UNC to put them up 4 or with Williams missing both free throws for Duke that would've given them the lead...Duke also shot a horrible % from 3...Paulo had many opportunities one on one...he played well but he didn't dominate....

I do not think the Duke defender was late getting around the screen and up on Caleb Love. The shot was taken from about 23 feet out with the defenders hand in his face. Could a smaller, quicker defender played Love tighter. Yes, but Love may then have taken the shot closer to the basket. Love is just that good.
Coach K got out coached and lost by 4 points? Nothing about the Duke player Williams who missed was a 74% free throw footer and missed two key free throws near the end of the game or North Carolina’s Love who was allow to score 28 points by Duke’s defense, or Duke shooting 22.7% from the three point line and 60% from the free throw line? 🤔 Duke underperformed by 13.9% from the three and 13.8% from the free throw line that game over their season averages. But yes, Coach K, an all time great coach got out coached? 😁 North Carolina just played better all around. Simple as that.

I’m a Duke fan but I’ll take a well coached unc over a top recruiting class well talented Duke team..
I appreciate your honesty. One and undone.
As a duke fan I totally agree
Maybe 1 and done culture will go away....we know it's not going anywhere
Jwill. We waiting for you to wear a bib and on live to say North Carolina is my daddy. The bet that you bet on everyone. 😂
Have a wonderful week beautiful people 🙏🏿
I don’t like how coach K did Tommy a maker who was suppose to be the duke leadership pick to take over the program but he wanted another guy with no experience
I wonder what that was about
Karma came back and sat next to him......
He's given a few reasons but I think he really hurt Tommy A. by asking him to not consider the offer from the University. He wanted Scheyer to be the coach and at the end he got what he wanted.
J Will… UNC is your DADDY!!!!! Where is your bib
I was scratching my head as to why UNC was such an underdog in this game. I mean, they just beat Duke, at Duke, with massive pressure on them. Still scratching!
It’s dandruff
Give Coach Davis his just due. He out coached K and his players outplayed Duke. Congrats Coach Davis. Respect Meallah Albany NY
Still need a formal apology from Key about Dook running the state of NC over UNC of all teams
spoken like someone who knows absolutely nothing about Carolina basketball. Duke does not "run" the state of NC. That is the all time stupidest thing I've ever heard. I cannot believe Key said that
He don’t know what he’s talking about.
Outcoached? It was a crazy, back and forth game. Both teams played amazing. Williams missed 2 huge free throws for Duke and UNC hit big shots. It's that simple...has nothing to do with coaching.
No, it does. Play calling, match ups on the floor and timeout management made the difference.
Yeah bro no offense but you just can't see the second layer of the game below the surface
Why was Williams (c) in the game to miss the freethrows?
Let me end this coaching argument. If Duke does better from the line or if Williams hits his free throws at the end of the game then we have a different outcome. What can coach K do when hit team misses the big shots and UNC hits them?
2 missed freethows aren't what lost them the game, unc won by 4 🤣
Naw... Jay must be CRAZY... I NEVER root for a rival... EVER... Thanks Key👊
Poor Jay. Love me some Duke Tears!
As a 50 + year Tar heel I could never have pulled for Duke if they had won. It's just not conceivable. Any one else.
I assure you if Duke had won I would not be cheering for DUKE tonight!
Where that UNC bib and pacifier 🤣🤣🤣
Who is Daddy now! 💙
J Will where’s your bib 😂😂 Who’s your DADDY !!!!!!!
Sent coach K packing 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Bye bye 👋🏾 let’s go UNC
NC players outplayed Duke players - tossing it all on K - absurd and indication these folks do not understand the game as well as they claim.
What Divison 1 School did tou play for again? Do you even have a High School Championship Ring??? Lol
@Asah Spades what does color have to do with it, it's a game, why is it surprising a black coach out coached him , that's the problem, comments like that indirectly saying a Blackman can't out think a whiteman.
Boys and girls Josh Pastner called it way back in January about this 8 seed team. He said I don't know why this team is not ranked. They beat UCLA 2nd in the PAC 12. How about Duke another 1st place conference team with a team of pros I heard. Kansas run into a buzzsaw tonight. The Heels win their 7th championship all with house money tonight. Go Heels!
Poetic Justice 🍾😂
I don’t think coach K got out coached! UNC was a better three point shooting team in the last minutes
Matchup Stanley, you have to look at the matchup.
J.Will just said the same thing I said as far as Coach K getting out coached by HD.. No disrespect to coach K but HD made great in game adjustments...
Fun isn't something one considers when balancing the universe. But this does put a smile on my face. Carolina won to go 50-50 vs Coach K.
Hubert Davis definitely outclassed this 75yr old coach, and UNC had the better backcourt folks, jjust simply glad Caleb Love gave the Duke coach lots of " Love"!!!
I’m just here for Jay’s tears
Same here
Now JWill can skip the Maury show 👍. "Who's your daddy 🐏"
UNC dude here. Props to JWill. Took guts to say what he said. Respected him (hated him) when he was 2 time ncaa player of the year for duke. I really think JWill is one of the biggest what ifs in sports just like Len Bias
That was game 100 in their bitter rivalry… yet the 2 games that probably mattered the most ( coach k’s final game and the final 4) - NORTH CAROLINA has won both of them!!
Coach K stubbornness not playing more zone defense is why he's not won more championships. Stubbornness FACTS
Is that why you are not coaching at Duke? Let me read the "FACTS" about that. LOLOLOLOLOLOL
that WHAT* sent me 😂
John Shier doesn’t have to do anything his first year but coach. Expectations are low. Tarheels will be back
I appreciate J Will on keeping it real.
He always gets out coached but no one ever says it! He’s overrated!
Can't be overated with the most NCAA wins
@@ALYoungFuture13 You can if you coach for 47 years. 42 at Duke and 5 at Army and if you always have the best players. Go look at his record the years he didn’t have the best players it was bad.
@@jwt2345 longevity don't mean wins ...he got the wins kuz of his coaching ability, alot of those duke championships had average Duke players, and the Duke Team's like Kyrie, Jayson Tatum, Zion didn't win anything , so overated es a complete reach when no coach currently even has 3 rings let alone 5, an alot of these coaches are 30 year plus already
He didn’t get outcoached. An officiating crew had never worked as a team before were calling three different games. They were not on the same page.
and the lights were not right, and the chairs weren't cushioned enough, and the floor wasn't colored the right way and ........
It's ok Jason, we would never root for Duke in anything. Keyshawn is right!!
No, the greatest of all time is John Wooden and not Gazinkski.
@@johnharris8191 I was being sarcastic. I KNOW John Wooden was the greatest of all time, but amazingly you are the only one who has agreed with me on that. Most of the Shasheffsky supporters are too young to remember Wooden, but there is literally no comparison between the two.
Jay is turning into a UNC fan boy and I love it
Coach K is in his sunset years and was significantly out coached by rookie Hubert Davis. The baby doomers' time has come to it's end.
All three are correct!✅✅✅
Those missed free throws lost Duke the game.
To be fair coach K hasn’t coached his team since the 14-15 season.
Time to honor the bet Jay!
All the build up and history of the rivalry was important to this game. This was the biggest game in the history of the rivalry. North Carolina beats coach k in the final four. They just claimed their dominance over duke
Duke players pulled a Bad Boys Pistons routine and abandoned the floor, leaving Coach K to shake hands by himself.
The players wanted to call their agents.
If you got your azz whooped in front of millions of people. Wouldn't you run away and hide?
Blah blah blah J.Will...just make sure you put that UNC bib & pacifier on & wear it with pride. Don't punk out of your bet with Vinsanity!!!
WHOS YOUR DADDY JWill
Yes you right who is his daddy he dam showed need to fine him one
this coach k love fest can now stop
Coach K didn't get out coached. Basketball is a make or miss game. Down the stretch UNC made shots and Duke missed shots...plain and simple
Two things can be true at the same time. Dook missed shots and K made some bad choices particularly around timeouts.
Exactly ... these asinine comments are meant for television and nothing else.
He got out coached!
He got out coached....you make Bacot guard Paolo. Once he fouls out, Paolo eats for free in the paint.
I'm sick im sick I'm sick.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’ve been waiting to hear Jay lol
I bet it absolutely killed ESPN to upload this lol. Go Heels!!
I do not agree with not rooting for ur rival in a national championship game! Im a die hard Tarheel fan but have and will root for Duke every time in a huge game out of RESPECT! Yes, I do not like Duke in any sport, but I respect the school and the hard work they put in to be one of the best year after year.
This was more satisfying than a good pasta dinner!
I am duke is gone but now we have to hear how they lost and why they should have won
To predict the game tonight sense I’ve gotten everyone right so far Unc wins by 6 tonight it’s gonna be a tough game …but I truely believe whoever won that Unc duke game was going to win it all!
Sorry KU wins this one
#1 recruiting class means nothing. It's all media hype. These 18 year old kids will come from high school and get beat by grown men on the big stage...happens almost every year...they are kids
UNC hit shots Duke didnt. Come on Jay
Free throws
Tar Heels!!!
Coach K was not out coached, UNC played better as a team where as Duke felt like an all-star team that played for the first time together
Williams surely has a lot of reasons as to why dook lost, except Carolina was BETTER!
I give Scheyer 3 years before he's fired.
Duke underperformed by 13.9% from the three and 13.8% from the free throw line that game over their season averages. But yes, Coach K, an all time great coach got out coached? 😁 North Carolina just played better all around. Simple as that.
They had a funeral march for coach k on Sunday down the streets of NO
