It took me so many years to notice that Reese realized that Batman saved his life in this moment. And the subtle head nod from Bruce saying "i gotchu...now you better not reveal who i am"
@Jay Ju It's one of many plot holes that the Dark Knight Rises had which makes it arguably the worst of Nolan's Batman trilogy.
@@LordMalice6d9 True the dark knight rises is the worst of the 3. But it's still a great movie
@@jatinvikram5333 I don't think The Dark Knight Rises is very good at all. It shows many of Nolan's weaknesses as a filmmaker. Like his mendacity and over reliance on exposition and pretentious dialogue scenes.
bruce is a jokester too.
"should I go to a hospital?"
I know, that might be my favorite part of this scene and his character as a whole
you know, I've never realized... Joker always chides Batman over not having a sense of humor.
But Bruce actually DOES in most canons.
i like to think Gordon looked back on this differently after finding out Bruce is Batman
Yeah, I'm sure just after he thought he got nuked he would have been like.....'Do you know what everyone?..I've just thought of something!!!!'
Actually after the first movie he keeps dropping hints that he suspected Bruce but never really pushed him on the issue. Even when it was confirmed he wasnt really shocked.
@@snikerz5886 You sure, man? He seemed pretty shocked when he found out.
I love how when Reese is getting in the car and tells Gordon “they’re trying to kill me” and Gordon responds “maybe Batman can save you” and Batman does end up saving him lmaooo
for a sequel, TDK is such a complete movie. More complete than what it seemed to be.
Not only that, the subtle look Bruce gave Mr Reese was basically saying "Don't tell anyone". Every time I come back to this movie, I find a new detail damn
Reese got burned by Gordon's reply just in time to be saved by batman.
Love how Gordon immediately complimented Bruce, only to get disappointed by his irresponsible and indifferent act. Disappointed specially since he felt lots of sympathy for him as a kid. I can imagine Gordon relieving this moment with Bruce differently after DKR
Yeah he probably felt sad that Bruce grew up to be an irresponsible selfish jerk only until he realized he was batman before he flew the bomb away
*Gordon in TDKR after Bruce gives the "A hero could be anyone" speech:* Bruce Wayne? Then that 'Catching the light' thing... Oh, that clever SOB..."
every single actor, from mains to extras, gordon to mr reese, sold their roles so well
Agreed. Nolan set out to tell the story of a city, and everyone on this production did a great job.
Honestly really wished they used more scarecrow lowkey, obviously I love the joker and think that while bane isn’t as powerful is still pretty cool, scarecrow was super underutilized in my opinion
@@skelebonez1349 scarecrow sucks in this trilogy. Sorry. I agree, wish they used him more and BETTER.
mr. reese was this trilogy's riddler. He was really great and perfectly utilized even if he wasn't a main villain.
Idk why just the way Bruce says “why who’s in it” makes me laugh
Mucierlargo is spanish for bat. So he's literally driving a daytime batmobile
Fun fact: Most Lamborghini's are named after famous Spanish, matador bulls. Hence all the Spanish names.
Still, kinda weird to name your bull "bat/vampire". I guess Vampire isnt such a TERRIBLE name for a bull.
@@eddiediaz5518 Thats gotta be a record... though then again I think the third film broke it if you count the beige ones used by the bad guys and the bat ship
Gary Oldman’s “you okay, son?” Is the most comforting line I’ve heard in my life
And to think he also played the corrupt policeman stansfield from the professional.
Christian's delivery at 4:06 of "why, who's in it?" Was absolutely perfect. If nothing else in any of his movies convinced me of his merit. It would be that.
That was a very brave thing for Bruce to do. He’s not wearing his armoured suit, he easily could have been quite badly injured and then been unable to stop the Joker. And he did it all for a man that was going to sell him out.
Let's just assume that he customized all his cars to have the best airbags and security measures in case of an accident, kinda like the president's car which looks normal on the outside but it's actually a 4 wheel tank, he's Batman after all, always prepared with his fortune and with contingency plans for almost every scenario.
*In the DC Universe Bruce Wayne is the 3rd smartest human being - behind only Adrian Veidt (Ozymandias) and Lex Luthor.* Dr Manhattan isn't human anymore - so I'm not including him in the list. Being the 3rd smartest human being alive, it's not difficult for someone of his level of intellect to calculate the acceleration, speed and angle he needed his vehicle to be in, to minimise his injuries post-collision. Not to mention, sports cars are literally designed with the best safety-features for collisions because people only buy those kind of cars to show off the speed.
Problem is they made Batman to realistic, he’d be able to tank it in the comics. He’s pretty durable in the comics and quite strong too, strong enough to kick through a tree!!
@@JS_246 Also, the Lambo took the hit from the passenger side. Even being pushed into the SUV on the driver's side, that force is spread much more evenly. If there was a passenger in the Lambo, they may have been seriously injured. But you're right, these cars are designed to destroy themselves to protect the occupants of the vehicle.
You can see the moment Reese' panic starts to go in full swing
"They're trying to kill me" - you heard the joker, why are you surprised?
@@agenttheater5 Because it was only after one civilian tried to shoot him in broad daylight in front of who knows how many other civilians and police officers that he fully realized there are some people desperate enough to do what the Joker says and his life was indeed in danger.
Reporter: “sir, commissioner you really think an ordinary citizen would try to kill this man?”
Gordon: …..
Reporter Sir? Commissioner?
💥💥🔫
Gordon: *no more questions*
@mikle2129 just imagine Gordon thinking after those shots "does that answer your question?"
(Truck driver on the phone with his insurance company) Insurance company: "you hit a what?"
Insurance: name of the affected party?
Driver: Bruce Wayne
Insurance: So you're telling me we have to make pay outs to our boss with his own money?
I like how Bruce tried avoiding talking with Gordon too much. He knows Gordon’s smart. He would recognize him easily
Honestly if you think about it, this scene called back to the "It's not who i am underneath but what i do that defines me". Bruce could have let Mr. Reese be killed and it would have kept his identity a secret but he put his life on the line (in this case, his Lambo) just to protect him. Like the Joker said, Batman truly was incorruptible
Throughout this scene Bruce is knowingly giving away a lot. If you looked at the security footage throughout the city you could see the Lambo following the van and slowing down and Bruce noticing the man in the pickup getting ready to crash, and Bruce's nod to Reese after
2:20 I love how Gordon saying “Well maybe Batman will save you” with a direspectful tone to Reese. You can tell he doesn’t appreciate him trying to expose the Batman and obviously Reese doesn’t comprehend his Gotham needs Batman until he saves him
The way Harvey had Ramirez all figured out throughout this whole movie is brilliant. So much foreshadowing
Always loved how Bruce knew all the names but one of the cops by face.
there was that whole thing about a lot of the cops being corrupt in the first one so maybe that's why. that's my guess. and this guy's not a side criminal just doing it for his wife
@@justvisiting9154 in the second one too. It’s a huge plot point that apparently a lot of the cops were in bed with Maroni or something it’s been a while since I’ve seen the movie
For sure. He knows by detail. If you watch the animated film assault on Arkham, he identified cops by names and shifts
'The Lamborghini then. Much more subtle.' Yes, for Batman it is. Now that's a very subtle line right there.
If Bruce knew that Reese knew that he was Batman because Lucius told him he found out, this is really something, and if Reese is an embryonic Riddler it's _really_ something.
I'm very sorry for him if this hasn't gotten him to rethink his life, knowing that the man you were trying to blackmail and then expose still saved your life when a lot of people in the city wanted you dead aught to put things into perspective.
I don't think so yeah Riddler was a forensics expert but in a web show called Gotham his alternate name was Edward Nygma
@@agenttheater5 Maybe that's why the riddler isn't in this universe - Batman prevented him from happening in the first place.
@@CorruptPianist yeah also bruce hasnt been batman for that long he doesnt have a lot of villains in this universe he fights small crime
@@zainulkhan8381 I mean even if its not him, its clearly a nod to the riddler. Mister Reese > Mysteries > riddles
2:11 and this is the moment Christopher Nolan got the idea for Tenet
Bruce Wayne was like a detective/secret agent in the dark knight which was so awesome would you all agree?
Yep. This scene. The crime sight scene where Batman reconstructs the fingerprint on the bullet and subsequently tracked down the apartment of the shooter (even though it was a trap). And lastly, the scene where Batman images the entire city in Sonar, by taking Fox's sonar concept and hooking it into everyone's mobile devices. Just a few more reasons to love The Dark Knight.
Nolan is a big Bond fan so I won't be surprised. In fact if you look at the whole TDK trilogy, Bruce is like James Bond, Mr. Fox is like Q giving him all the gears, while Rachel, Selina and Talia can also represent the Bond girl archetypes.
The way he plans out and kidnaps Lau is my fav part of the entire movie, it’s very super spy of him
Bruce intentionally driving into that truck and then playing dumb right after will always be funny to me 🤣🤣 Christian bale is truly a legend.
The Joker was right about one thing - Batman really was completely incorruptible.
Watching this, I forgot how brilliant this movie was even in less climactic scenes.
I love how Gordon tells that man the truth on why he needed the gun. He didn't bs the guy
Well, what should he have said "Oh no, I just wanna check out one of our guns for a bit, don't worry about it"
Some people in authority refuse to give straight answers. Some give non answers like I'm not at liberty to discuss, I can't confirm that or he could have said I said give me the gun!
The officer at 0:18 is the same officer that Joker held a piece of glass on his neck at the Police station. And now there is a bandage on that spot. Crazy good detail and I don't notice until 13 years later.
@@ericb5328 Nah, Harvey Bullock was in Batman Begins. Gordon's corrupt partner that was working with Falcone
@@GhostPenguin707 Wrong, the corrupted one is Arnold Flass. However, the officer we are talking about is credited as detective Stephens
It´s pretty cool how Bruce knew all those names of the cops. He did his research.
That cop was one second away from turning him into Reese's Pieces.
Even if he killed Reese how would Joker know the deed is done? It’s not like he has a direct number, plus he would be arrested before escaping and contacting joker, so he clearly didn’t think ahead. Especially since joker would have blown up a hospital
@@redshot5403something tells me Joker wouldn't really care. Remember, Joker is chaos incarnate. Like Alfred said, some men just want to watch the world burn.
@@bronwynschoer8039 exactly, just as Joker was going to blow up both boats anyway, he would have blown up the hospital
@@redshot5403 Like @browyn said, Joker wouldn't care.
Also, it would be all over the news.
The best Batman imo but more importantly the best Bruce Wayne
I love The Batman but the dark knight will forever be my all time favorite film. This movie is a masterpiece
Watching this movie again after 10 years, I am starting to find a lot of subtleties that I can relate to based on my own life experiences. Like how proactive Gordon is when he decides to wheel out all patients. He knows right away the Joker succeeded in planting the bombs.
You think I should go to a hospital?? LMAO had me dying
this is what will always make this Joker an infinitely better villain than DKR's Bane - he had Gotham scared absolutely shitless
In an ideal world we would’ve seen bane and joker meet. Bane would’ve freed joker and continued with his plan, but joker would’ve taken over the bomb with some brilliantly executed twist at the end and it would’ve been a final confrontation between him and Batman
@@kkonacreed8638Nah. Bane would know better than to trust a psychopath. He would have rung the Joker's neck bare handed and dumped his body on the sidewalk.
You forget Bane is Batman's intellectual equal.
I always thought that Gary Oldman made an amazing Commissioner Gordon.
Yeah he’s a good cop in a terrible town but he trusts Batman to get the job done
Not enough people point out the fact that Bruce memorized likely the faces and names of all the officers in Gordon's precinct.
Murcielago is Spanish for Bat. God everything about this scene just WORKS.
This small scene of Commissioner Gordon and Bruce interacting with each other is one of my favorite scenes of the movie
This is the last time we see Bruce Wayne. For the rest of the movie he’s Batman.
Underated line from this scene:
Berg: Why, because my wife's in the hospital?
Gordon: Yeah, that'd be why.
Perfect delivery, just a touch of humour in a tense situation. Gary Oldman is always a win.
The movie is just that Awesome. The humorous lines flew over our head and if you read Joker's line, everything is cheesy, corny or even cringe worthy. But the movie puts us on the edge of our sit makes us focused because the music is great. The picture is great. The story is great. The movie is great.
The fact is, actually Bruce Wayne pick the batmobile. Cause murcielago mean's bat.
This details in Nolan's film is insane.
Ever notice???...Mr.Reese Blinked his both eyes...to Bruce🔥🔥🔥🔥.....
I love how Bruce acts like he didn't do a good thing
Imagine the guy having to pay insurance for hitting Bruce Wayne’s Lamborghini.
For all we know Bruce may have paid it out of pocket. He can, he's got the savings for it.
My favorite scene of the movie.
Thanks for posting this.
I like how Alfred calls it the Bat-pod. There’s not really a whole lot of other devices in this trilogy that has the “bat” prefix.
2:35. His voice 😍
When Bats and Mr Reese make eye contact he’s like “why you little piece of “
I took it more of a "yes, I know what you were going to do, and yes, I still saved your life."
There goes that gorgeous Lambo 😪
This is why Bale was the perfect fit. He's got the perfect cocky swagger for Bruce Wayne, he's got the right build for Batman, even if the voice...is a little silly by part 3, but this moment where he plays Batman outside the suit, a very gentle nod to Reece totally sells him as a man of two worlds
I love this scene which is why it is truly incredible that there are probably at least a dozen better scenes in this movie. Just epic all around.
I enjoy the idea that Gordon would've later reflected on this moment after he learned that Bruce was Batman at the end of Rises.
If I was Gordon I'd be pretty damn suspicious that Bruce Wayne is Batman given his very convenient appearance at that moment.
Liked Battinson but I really need Bale's suave Wayne back
I love Gordon's response when Bruce asks him if he thinks he should go to the hospital. It was to say, quit messing with me Bruce, go save them.
I don’t think Gordon knew he was Batman if anything he had his suspicions; but not enough to say that’s 100% Batman
that's why Bale is the best Bruce wayne lol
he also nodded when he saw reese, as a deal that he will keep it low. key about being batman
Bruce making eye contact with Coleman was more than just, "I saved your life." You gotta look at it from Coleman's point of view:
1. Bruce knows he knows. Alright, so Coleman told Fox and Fox told Bruce. Not a stretch by any means.
2. Bruce knew exactly which police van he was in. When a portion of the city is trying to kill you, the fact one man can just find you whenever he wants is horrifying. Coleman knows only people with relatives in hospitals are after him, and he doesn't know, nor will he ever know, if Bruce had a relative, and if he spared his life because he didn't want Joker to win, because he planned on defeating Joker as Batman, or if he was just letting him live for now, and killing him later. Coleman doesn't know Batman's full ideology.
3. Bruce is just talking to Gordon like normal. Coleman may not know if Gordon knows who Batman is, but whether he does or doesn't, it's still scary, because he tried blackmailing someone who may or may not be close partners with the police commissioner. Either option is scary. Revealing Batman's secret and having Bruce sent to Arkham would be like killing a cop; you will always have a target on your back for ruining the life of one of Gotham's greatest heroes.
4. Just how much control Bruce has over the situation. Coleman must have felt like a nobody at Wayne Enterprises, and for its top CEO/Batman to single you out and look you in the eyes as if to say, "You wanted my attention, you've got it, now what?" is fucking scary. Not to mention the strings being pulled around them. How many cops know Bruce is Batman? Coleman doesn't know. For all he does know, he's in the middle of a stage where he's the only one who doesn't know what's going on. He just stumbled onto it where all the key players like Batman, Joker, and Gordon are moving around in a delicate balance where Gotham's soul is at stake. What's EVEN scarier is the reality; no one knows Bruce is Batman. This little charade could definitely go south at any point. Bruce doesn't control the police or the citizens, he can't stop Coleman from being killed. And that lack of control is even scarier than the possibility that Bruce is in control of everything and he's just pushing Coleman around like a puppet.
Gordon likely knew Bruce was protecting the van since for a split second you can see the Lamborghini having brakelights that’s leaving skidmarks.
4:07 "Why who's in it?"
Christian used his Pat Bateman voice for this line.
The amount of subtle things in this scene show how good Nolan is at writing:
Joker calls in to predict someone's death, a nod to the Joker's modus operandi in his first appearance in Dc comics
Bruce immediately thinks of finding out which of Gordon's men would have a motivation to kill Reese, something only the world's greatest detective would think of, not to mention his ability to identify officers from far away while he's driving past them.
Reese figures out Bruce is batman and blackmails Fox (a nod to the riddler)
Mr Reese sounds like mysteries, similar to how E. Nygma sounds like enigma
Gordon says maybe batman can save Reese, foreshadowing what actually happens
Bruce gives Reese a subtle nod to let Reese know that batman did in fact save him and only he knows it
The playboy car Bruce drives is a Lamborghini Murcielago, Lamborghini's fastest car at the time so a natural choice for a billionaire playboy. Murcielago is Spanish for bat.
After being in a car crash Bruce thinks he should go to the hospital and Gordon says he doesn't watch the news much because the hospital is being evacuated.
Edit: I just rewatched the video and realised there were 2 officers who had relatives in the hospital texted to Gordon. Berg was obviously in the van with them, the other was Ramires, the corrupt police woman that kidnapped Rachel and Harvey later finds out this is because she had relatives in the hospital. I don't know how I noticed that detail, nevermind how Nolan thought to put that in
Wow all these clips. Welp time to rewatch this movie for the 100th time. First Batman movie I ever saw.
This scene alone is better than Scuicide squad.
Diesel truck owners insurance company-
YOU HIT A WHAT!!!??
Rest in peace Lamborghini.
I just got to say I love how this seem foreshadows the fact that Bruce/Batman is willing to sacrifice his public image to do what he believes the right thing. He wouldn’t hesitate to make himself look like a reckless, idiotic driver and potentially mess with his public image if it means saving a man’s life. A man who is actively trying to get him arrested mind you.
Lol. "In the middle of the day Alfred? Not very subtle" "the Lamborghini then. Much more subtle"
0:55-Reese looks absolutely horrified in this shot. Major props to his actor.
Why did everyone on the news just take Reese’s word for it that he knew who Batman was? For all they know he could just be some random guy who doesn’t know and just wants attention.
There would be those who believe it...since he is a staff there and has proofs
Lol they be so thirsty they take people at their word ...it used to happen all the time with Howard Stern fans....they def make sure to vet now
You're saying a news broadcaster would not grab onto the chance to get more people watching but instead carefully check the veracity of the information they're getting?

I wonder what the significance is with the number caller ID @2:54, that area code 735 is in Oklahoma. Nolan tends to use a lot of details that can easily go over the heads of the audience, so just curious why from there specifically.
I came back to this scene because of that Dodge Ram Gen 2 dually.
bruce sold the fact he wasnt really batman even if people had their suspisions like gordon he said should i see a hospital proving to them he doesnt know what happens in gotham great character
For those who don’t know, Mr. Reese is the Riddler. Mr. Reese = Mysteries
I always thought that Reese was going to turn into some kind of a new The Riddler character since he worked for or at Wayne enterprises and discovered the batman's identity. It would have been cool to see.
U ever notice how he was actually headed to a green light. The lie doesn't make sense.
my fav scene in the movie, i love how Gordon has no clue and Bruce acts like he has no idea, Reese gets the message etc.

Christian bale is such a damn good actor.
Bruce Wayne and James Gordon are the two most honorable men in Gotham City. I like to think this borrows some inspiration from Year One where the entire story Gordon was trying to prove Bruce was Batman and after his wife pointed a gun at him he still selflessly jumped under the bridge to save Gordon’s boy which is also similar to the climax of this film.
"Do you really think an ordinary citizen would try to kill this man?"
