I just found radiation therapy program info that my instructor shared. I researched it & am really interested. Is it hard to find a job as a radiation therapist? What other jobs can they apply to besides radiation therapist?
The video presents a misleading view of the role of radiation therapists by suggesting we don't use imaging equipment, which significantly undermines the complexity and breadth of our responsibilities as radiation therapists. While it’s true that we don’t conduct imaging for diagnostic purposes like our colleagues in Medical Imaging, radiation therapists regularly operate advanced imaging technology. We use CT simulators for treatment planning, C-arms during certain procedures like brachytherapy, and employ X-ray imaging with linear accelerators for kV imaging and during Total Body Irradiation (TBI) to protect and position critical organs like the lungs with precision lead blocks. Additionally, some radiation therapists perform MR simulations when working with MR-Linacs, and we may even conduct RTG therapy for managing painful joints. If RTs do not setup and take CT scans, MRI scans and X-Rays before they plan and treat patients, I would be highly concerned… As such, the video isn’t exactly wrong, just misleading and could have been worded better.
I’m really interested in radiation therapy. What opportunities are available to someone with a radiation therapy degree? This career is very hard to find info.
Should be like this at work.❤
