  • Celebrity Edge series ships, including Celebrity Beyond, feature many rooms known as "Infinite Verandahs". Many guests can't stand these, even claiming the name should be changed, while others love the extra space and unique sitting area they offer. In this video, we'll give you a tour of one of these controversial cabins, specifically Celebrity Beyond room 8277, an E2 Infinite Verandah.
    We filmed this on an April 2023 cruise, and if you want to see how that went, or get a full deck-by-deck tour of this billion dollar ship, check the links below.

    We actually liked our Infinite Veranda on Beyond. We could leave the doors open and still watch the sea when the weather wouldn't allow us to put the window down. Our chairs were always dry and always useable. When the sun was shining in, the light tinting helped diffuse the rays. We have another one booked on Ascent in 2024.

      That's how we feel. If on a ship where IVs and traditional verandahs were the same cost and similarly located, we'd chose the IV every time. I get why others feel differently based on their use, but for us, it's a win.

    I enjoyed them. I also really enjoyed the forward porthole rooms which while small, do have a great vibe to them. Sure, I'd prefer the full patio with door but I was able to adapt. If you go solo, ask your attendant to remove one of the patio chairs, opens things up quite a bit. Thank you for the video.

      I've never had a forward-facing room, but it's definitely something I'd like to try. We checked out J's (@jthenomad) forward-facing room on Wonder and thought it was really a cool perspective while sailing.
      The chair tip is a good one!

    I noticed you had a connecting room, did you hear noise from the other room often?

    • @CruiseHabit
      @CruiseHabit  2 місяці тому

      We didn't hear anything on this trip. Over the years I've had a lot of connecting rooms, and I think it was only on Harmony that I had an issue. Maybe that's luck, maybe we're the loud ones?

    Is there child safety in windownm?

    • @CruiseHabit
      @CruiseHabit  Рік тому

      Great question. I'm not sure, but we can ask around. I will say that pressing the buttons, while not difficult for an adult, does take some effort, and the buttons must be held down to open/close the glass. There are sensors to prevent the glass closing while something/someone is in the way. There is a lockout by the bridge in the event it's raining or the windows are being cleaned. The buttons are, by our estimation, about 5 feet/1.5 meters up, and the "railing" of sorts is a couple inches below the buttons. There are no slats/horizontal members (like on some traditional balconies) below the opening, but of course a child could potentially climb on the chair or table.

    Do you notice the room heating up when the sun is on the veranda’s window? I see another commenter mentioned some tinting. I’m all for more seating in the cabin.

    • @CruiseHabit
      @CruiseHabit  Рік тому +2

      It's certainly a degree or two warmer near the window compared to the rest of the room, at least when the run is directly facing it, but I've not experienced the room being too warm. The a/c controls on Edge series seem to usually indicate a cooler temp than what it feels like (to me, compared to my house), but I've not had an issue getting it cool enough.

    We hated the infinity veranda
    Room was great apart from that

      It's definitely polarizing. If we liked to lounge on the verandah it'd not be for us at all - but we just like having the extra space, tall window, and option for fresh air - so it's perfect the way we cruise.

    I'd rather have a Sky Suite on an Edge class ship, but I'm fine with the infinite veranda, even if it isn't my favorite.

    • @CruiseHabit
      @CruiseHabit  Рік тому +1

      I mean, we'd rather have a suite any time :-)
      Sky Suites are great though. I'm still partial to the one we had on end of the Magic Carpet track which provided an extra window and seating area on the verandah.

      @@CruiseHabit we had that cabin too! 6188 on Edge. But also, Sky Suite is really a junior suite and the junior suite on Royal is a second-class suite citizen while the Sky Suite is a full-fledged suite. Great option when you can get it for a reasonable price. (Not telling you anything you don't know.)

    Curious about something, Bill…it seems like it doesn’t have quite as much total space as a traditional balcony/verandah room…is the convertible “verandah” getting its square footage from carving out what otherwise would’ve been “cabin” space, or is it merely replacing the 30 or 40 square feet of balcony space from a traditional balcony cabin?

    • @CruiseHabit
      @CruiseHabit  Рік тому +2

      Keeping in mind that different ships have different size rooms in general, I think a few things are shifted in IVs, but broadly speaking it seems that it's mostly balcony space that is now indoors. You do lose a little room space to the significantly larger bathrooms found on Edge series ships, but for the IV, it starts just a foot or two from the side of the bed - which is often where you'll find the balcony slider in a traditional room (provided the layout puts the bed near the balcony and not the entrance). I've not had any traditional rooms that have a decent size sofa, with space between there and the closet AND had a seating area on the other side of the bed, which is what you get in an IV.

    Thanks or the details. I was just about to order extra charging outlets to bring with me. Guess I won't need it.

    • @CruiseHabit
      @CruiseHabit  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching! I suspect most people will be just fine with the numerous outlets and charging ports in these rooms. With more and more devices using USB-C, in fact, often a single USB-C multi-port adapter is sufficient even on much older ships with just one or two outlets.

    If you have the window down on the infinite balcony and the dividers are closed, does the air conditioning run in the cabin?

    • @CruiseHabit
      @CruiseHabit  Рік тому

      No, and this is, to us, a key flaw (or at least, a silly thing) about these rooms - the dividers are nearly useless. They're far from air-tight, so even if the A/C ran (which it doesn't) it'd not make a difference. The purpose they serve seems to be to add some level of privacy in the even you're in port and don't want to expose the rest of the room to the world. Perhaps a tiny bit of wind protection in certain circumstances, too (but that's not something we've ever needed).
