Hello Caitlin, thank you for your fine reaction. Diana has a very rare voice. She is a dramatic contralto and she is also polyphonic. There is a new TV show in Russia, you know. There are 9 weeks with 9 shows and 9 well known artists. Diana is the youngest artist. They had to sing songs from 9 genres. The last TV show was on 20. November 2021. The 9 artists are also the judges for the other singer. And Diana (18 yo) won this competition. She shocked the other singers with the first song. This was 15yo Diana singing in an amazing Russian project "You are Super" for abandoned/disadvantaged children because Diana spent some years in an orphanage when she was 3yo. She is a natural dramatic contralto (VERY deep!) which is rare in females but exceptionally rare in someone so young! She has an extensive entry in Wikipedia now which explains her sad early childhood. She is a force of nature with her unique contralto voice. Diana was taken from her abusive mother when she was a toddler. In the orphanage the physical therapist noticed and adopted her. At that time she did not speak, so her adoptive mom sent her to singing lessons. Here she is on a talent show for underprivileged children. One of the judges, Igor Krutoy, who also works with Dimash, gave her an apartment in Moscow so she could pursue her musical training there.

Abandoned by her mother but was raised by a loving family ! She began singing when she was 4 or so because they she had trouble learning to speak so they introduced singing to her ! She has won many competitions in Russia as a child and now at 18 won a huge competition against veteran singers in Russia ! She is well known in Russia but hasn't ventured out of the country much yet ! It is interesting to note that Diana Ankudinova was only 15 when this performance took place. This cover of the Chris Isacks classic, "Wicked Game" now truly belongs to her and it really demonstrates that Diana Ankudinova has a true contralto voice, a rare female voice type. In particular, the quality of her tone, her timbre, the color and roundness of her low sound, her resonance, harmonics, and the depth of her voice define her as a "dramatic contralto", the rarest of the rare type of contralto. Diana is also a real polyphonic singer which in itself is also a rare talent. Polyphonic singing is a vocal technique that creates two different tones at the same time which makes it sound like two different voices at the same time.
Diana does this through the resonance which is created by the airflow through the lungs, throat, mouth, and tongue placement which is why some people mistakingly think she is using a voice synthesizer or other electronic devices to manipulate or alter her sound, or there's another voice singing, or she is singing over a pre-recorded track, which she is not. To really listen and appreciate her vocal progression you should listen to some of her previous songs:

2. Then listen to the now 18-year-old Diana Ankudinova (she will be 19 in May of 2022), sing "Can't Help Falling In Love".
Also, on average the majority of female singers usually don't reach their full vocal maturity until they are around 22 to 25 years of age. I look forward to what Diana will sound like when she does reach full vocal maturity. When that happens, and she has several more years of voice training with her voice coach plus adding several more years to hone her live stage performance skills, there can be no doubt that Diana Ankudinova will be a wonder to behold and a force to be reconded with.
Also, the judges on this panel are all professional singers themselves. In this show, they compete and judge each other. By the way, the judge on the top row that stands up is a famous opera singer that's well known in Russia. As an FYI, Diana won this competition.

It is based on Russian folktales about a young betrothed orphan girl who goes to the river, the boundary between the living and the dead, to ask her deceased mother's blessing for her marriage.

Ironically, Diana herself was an orphan who was abused and abandoned by her alcoholic mother. Because of this beginning, she had speech problems and she was given singing lessons to help improve her speech. Her talent was quickly recognized and the rest is history.

Diana was born in May 2003 in the Far East of Russia. She didn't have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her had many pregnancies, only Diana survived ... and she abused the child and tried to drown it. One day this 3 year old child was found at a bus stop with a broken collarbone and taken to an orphanage.
There she finally found love ... by Irina Ponik, a massage therapist who treated the children from the children's home. Diana came to a poor but loving family when she was 5 years old.
Diana spoke badly, cried a lot and was still very scared, but she could all sing songs from cartoons. A doctor recommended singing lessons. And so, the singing teacher Elena Kazantseva discovered Diana's talent. And all started …
Diana has something primal, mystical, but also sensitive and sensual in her voice and she lives her songs. Diana is a dramatic contralto, the rarest and lowest female voice type (her range C3-D6). Diana's voice also sometimes has a polyphonic undertone. You hear: Her voice sounds an octave below the singing voice. (But not everyone can hear that.) Diana also has a perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm was exceptional even as a little girl.
Diana impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions.
In 2018 and 2019 Diana entered a unique competition and won twice. This project is unique in the world, an international TV- competition: 'You are Super', especially for adopted and orphaned children.
The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to UA-cam and soon she had millions of fans.
The project producers help the finalists start their studies and encourage their creativity. Diana won a scholarship.
Igor Krutoy, here as a juror, gave her a small apartment (37m²/398,26 ft²) in Moscow. There, in the small flat she lives with her mother and grandmother and was able to begin her vocal training with the best teachers.
2020 Diana graduated from high school with honors as an external student a year earlier than it is 'normal'. That alone shows how smart and hardworking she is.
She applied to music colleges and was rejected (examiners suspected she had a voice defect). But she is totally normal and healthy. Now she is a student at the university, at the legendary Russian State Institute for Theater and Variety Arts. @@wlad46 Компьютер (моноблок) Mac Retina 4k, 22" + усилитель для наушников Yulong U200 + наушники Shure 1840 или Beyerdynamic T1. Сигнал на усилитель снимается с обычного линейного выхода для наушников. Этот сигнал слишком слабый на любом компьютере, поэтому усилитель просто необходим. Данный усилитель - китайский, недорогой, но с очень хорошим ЦАП (японский АК 4495). Есть усилители получше и подороже, в том числе, ламповый, на них я слушаю винил или SACD. Сигнал с компьютера на ЦАП подавать бессмысленно, поскольку такой сжатый формат (192-256 кбит/сек, AAC) ЦАП не воспринимает. Поэтому я просто мечтаю о том, чтобы послушать этот феноменальный голос в нормальном формате, хотя бы на CD, но лучше всего - на виниле. Все приличные западные исполнители выпускают новые релизы на виниле, а теперь ещё и на магнитофонных кассетах. Мы с вами, к сожалению, вынуждены слушать компрессированный звук, с обрезанными верхами и низами, уменьшенным динамическим диапазоном, а главное - с пониженным уровнем сигнала. Примечательная особенность голоса Дианы в том и состоит, что он не теряет своей основной окраски, глубины и насыщенности при любой коррекции. Опытный слушатель вполне способен понять и при таком сжатом звуке, насколько редкий, уникальный голос он слышит. Кроме того, на нас действует не только голос, и на хорошем компьютере видеоряд отчасти компенсирует недостаток аудиоинформации...

Отвечая на вопрос как произносить фамилию и имя.Диана (не английская I а сочетание EE,ударение на первый слог) АнкудИнова(ударение выделил большой буквой,в английской транскрипции AnkudInova.буква тоже произносится не как английская I а как сочетание EE)Это был проект Ты Супер,в нем участвуют только дети из многодетных семей,либо из малообеспеченных,либо сироты из детских домов или неполных семей.Диана победила в двух сезонах подряд,в 14 и 15 лет.На этом видео ей 14.Поет девочка с 5летнего возраста,и у нее всегда был этот низкий глубокий контральто.Иногда она использует свой фирменный рык и в сочетании с ее шикарным голосом это звучит очень красиво и мощно.Сейчас Диане Анкудиновой 18 лет,она плотно занимается творчеством дает множество концертов,уже начала писать свои песни.7 Декабря вышел ее первый полноформатный альбом из девяти авторских,написанных для нее песен.Послушайте их и сравните с еще маленькой Дианой.

age of about 13 she auditioned on a show for children and
sang/yodeled. It is called 'Jodel Time'...really
extraordinary...the audience absolutely loved her but the judges
didn't turn their chairs around, even though they were obviously
fascinated by her voice. They asked her to sing something else
and she sang a French song acapella...but she was not chosen.
What did she do? As the audience cheered her, she went up and
gave the judges a hug! Completely captivating performer, even at
the age of 13! I'd say watch her do Elvis' 'Can't Help Falling
in Love' (fantastic -- she makes it an entirely new song). And
also you could do 'Wicked Game' and 'Rechenka' both at the age
of about 15 in singing contests... utterly spectacular voice!
Also she sings a beautiful and uplifting 'Into the Sky!' Enjoyed
your comments on her....the background is as extraordinary as
the performer. At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far
northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where
she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she
was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage
therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the
first to recognize something special in this little girl, and
eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons
because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak
without impediment. Only two years later she started singing in
local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon
after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for
disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local
competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started
showing up on UA-cam. Two months ago, at the age of 18, her
first performance during a new Russian television competition
with several other renowned performers, has gone viral and has
garnered hundreds of UA-cam 'reaction' videos, and millions of
viewers. Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take
on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has
been called mesmerizing, transcendental and other-worldly...it
highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from
low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate
interpretation. Diana Ankudinova sings mostly in Russian,
English and French. She has also sung in other languages
including Spanish, German and Arabic. A viewer: 'At the age of 5
she couldn't speak her own language, and now she is this angelic
singer that the world will soon discover! How can one watch her
and still doubt past lives?'

This beautiful girl, had a very hard up bringing, she never talked much, her mother treated her badly, she was bullied told constantly she usless, ugly ect, then put in a home, were she would humm constantly, that how she got her unique voice, she was then taken out to live with her new step mother, who loved her, and encouraged to sing, and express her emotions, she refused to see her other mother, when she became well known, bless mel

Hi Kaylan so surprised you never heard of Diana. She was 15 when this performance was aired. She is now 18. Diana is a extremely rare dramatic contralto which is the lowest form of the female singing voice but she ability to same with polyphonic overtones which is what makes her voice sound super human.
