The kid tried to be friendly and nice to him but his reaction is quite weird. He did not even put effort to get to know the bride’s family. Yes, everybody is blind when they are in love but as a mother, the bride should be more responsible for her kid’s safety.

You have daughters to consider. Bringing a man into your home that you haven't seen since high school is troublesome. I person changes as they grow into an adult. Be engaged, but date to ensure the peace of your children. I would hire a private investigator to see if there are any financial burdens, marriages, child support or police records. Better to be safe than sorry.

There are far more important things than how it was done. Now, if you are too “grand” to even dare to accept a phone proposal and would request that he met your demands for you to accept his proposal, you better rethink your whole concept of marriage altogether.
S. 100% agree, a proposal doesn’t have to be extravagant if you know it’s the right person. I know people who have had proposals just sitting casually on the couch in a “wanna get married?” type way and have been married for years. No reason to have it all showy if you truly love the person ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Strange, uncertain situation, to put it mildly. It could be a match made in Heaven. It could also be a nightmare. For all she knows now, he could have a live-in girlfriend and three children, and never been faithful a day in his life. That is quite a risk each of them are taking.
You haven't seen a guy in 12 years, you have 2 kids without him, and all of a sudden he pops back in your life, proposes after 2 months, you say yes, and the wedding is happened 7 months later.

My (basically) MIL did this same thing and it was a mistake. They were high school sweethearts, parted ways to live life, and then got together again after 20+ years. He showed her one side of him but everyone else who saw how he acted when she wasn't around said it was a bad idea. They were together, engaged, and married in less than 9 months. The wedding itself was it's own circus. They were married for less than a week before he showed his true colors. They're technically still married but after he refused to change they separated mutually. Divorce is difficult to get finalized in Kentucky.
